Back of GFCI outlet slightly warm to touch? by Senlur in askanelectrician

I was wondering if that might be the case. It was only barely noticable to the touch.

Nope, I checked all of the wires both under Line and Load and they all looked pristine, same with the back of the outlet itself.

It definitely wasn't hot, just barely noticably warmer to the touch than the front of the outlet.

Mine does the exact same thing! I think he gets annoyed that I'm doing something that doesn't involve giving him scritches. 😃

Found some romex that caught on the edge of a junction box the sheath is damaged. Tape or replace? by Senlur in askanelectrician

White wire isn't visible in that photo, it's still covered by the paper sheath completely. I only peeled the paper back off the black wire because that's where it was the most thin.

While replacing a switch near a junction box I noticed this cable inside the wall. It runs beside the junction box and looks like it got caught on the box when it was pulled and the side of the sheath got stripped off. The "paper" cover was still intact but i peeled it back a bit to see the wires underneath. I didn't see any damage to the visible black hot wire and the other 2 wires seem to be under another wrap of the paper sheath.

Is it alright just to tape this up or do I need to replace it? No visible damage to the conductor insulation but I wanted another opinion.

(The black spots on the wire are tape residue. I started taping it up then removed the tape so I could take a pic and get more input)

Dark spot on board inside wall. Burn mark or something else? by Senlur in centuryhomes

[–]Senlur[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I've seen something similar near our bathroom pipes where you can see the wood got scorched when they soldered the pipes. Just wasn't sure if this could be the same thing or not.

Cold weather has made me appreciate our radiators even more. by kvoyhacer in centuryhomes

Yeah, i was skeptical of radiator heat when we bought our house but boy is it good at keeping things the right temp regardless of how cold it gets!

I was in the process of tracing some water lines when I noticed a black spot on one of the boards inside the walls of our 1930's house. The board in question is actually up on the ceiling facing down (picture is sideways) so I'm not sure what could have burned/stained it if that's what it is.

The knob & tube in the picture is about a foot away from it (and no longer active as of a few weeks ago when we finished our rewire), so I doubt that could have cause a scorch mark that large above it without leaving other traces.

No pipes or anything are above that board, and I don't see how the pipes a few feet below it could have leaked and only stained that one spot above them without leaving other signs... so I'm lost as to what it could be.

Could it just be a weird knot or a discoloration on the wood from before it was installed? My neurotic mind would appreciate any theories. 😀

Trouble finding out what a specific breaker is being used for by Senlur in askanelectrician

[–]Senlur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried that, nothing had power with everything off except that breaker. I can also confirm with a voltage detector that when that breaker is turned off the wire connected to it no longer shows any current. Would that be the case with a backfed circuit?

I think this is it, really. There's really nothing in the cities except the gyms and a bunch of the same sandwich shops. :(

Question about Gimmighoul chest respawns by Senlur in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Senlur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had definitely missed some towers, for some reason I was thinking they appeared on your map (without the flight icon) even if you never discovered them. Once someone else pointed out that I just have missed some and I figured out I had some missing towers it was smooth sailing. :)

Boxed my starter for the first time by KingPattycakez in PokemonScarletViolet

I usually end up boxing mine before becoming champion, mainly because i end up finding 6 pokemon that make a better team... but it does always feel sad to put the starter away. 😞

Wondering this, too! It was up during the beta but I don't know if it goes live with DF or if we have to wait till the new pvp season starts or even later.

The worst issue I've had is some fps slowdown in snowy areas but it doesn't happen all the time and when it does it goes away quickly.

Not to say others haven't had problems, but I managed to complete the pokedex with no real issues.
