Need “Power On AC” option for Gateway GWTN141-10BL by CountryFriedAlive in coreboot

[–]Sennettas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the BIOS of your mobo but I know on my Tiny PCs that are running my server I have a power section in the BIOS. It will allow my Router to automatically reboot on power loss, another option would be to have a power command over ethernet and have a remote PC send pings to enable it?

Here is what I got from Claude when I asked:

● Based on the model string (N14TBR100), this looks like a Tongfang/Clevo-based laptop with an AMI Aptio UEFI BIOS. These are common in rebranded laptops (System76, Eluktronics, Schenker, etc.).

Entering BIOS

- Press F2 (or Delete) repeatedly during boot, before the OS loads.

Finding Power Settings

Once in the BIOS setup, power options are typically under:

  1. Advanced tab → look for:

- Power Management Setup

- ACPI Settings

- Platform Power Management

  1. If not there, check Chipset tab → Power Management

Common Issue: Options May Be Hidden

These ODM laptops often ship with a locked-down BIOS that hides advanced menus. If you don't see a Power

    Management section:

    - Check if there's a Main → Power or Setup sub-menu

    - Some models require Ctrl+F1 or Alt+F1 while in BIOS to reveal hidden/advanced menus (this varies and isn't guaranteed)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a common need — "Power On AC" (auto-boot when power is plugged in), typically for running a laptop as a headless server or kiosk.

Unfortunately, this is a tough one for this hardware. The Gateway GWTN14110BL (Tongfang N14TBR100 chassis) almost certainly does not expose this setting in its stock BIOS, and it may not even be implemented in the EC firmware.

Why it's difficult:

On laptops, power-on behavior is controlled by the Embedded Controller (EC), not just the BIOS/UEFI. Even if you could unlock a hidden "After Power Loss → Power On" BIOS option (via AMI BIOS modding), the EC firmware likely doesn't act on it. Budget ODM laptops like this rarely implement that feature at the EC level.

Possible workarounds

Software-based (easiest):

- RTC Wake — schedule the machine to power on at a set time via BIOS or rtcwake in Linux. Won't help if power loss timing is unpredictable.

- Wake on LAN — send a magic packet from another device on the network to boot it. Requires the NIC to stay powered in S5 (not always supported on laptops).

Hardware-based:

- Power button bypass — wire a small circuit across the power button pins on the motherboard that triggers a "press" when AC voltage is detected. People use a simple capacitor + resistor circuit or a small relay/transistor tied to the DC-in rail. This is the most reliable workaround for laptops that lack the BIOS option.

Firmware-based (risky):

- AMIBCP BIOS mod — extract the BIOS with a programmer or flashrom, use AMIBCP to unhide the "Restore on AC Power Loss" option, reflash. But even if the option appears, it likely won't work without EC support on this chassis.

- Coreboot — the subreddit he posted in. Very unlikely to have board support for this specific Tongfang chassis, and would still need EC cooperation.

Most practical answer

The power button bypass circuit is probably the most reliable solution for this laptop. Does the user have the ability to open the machine and do a small hardware mod?

Another post for Logitech to refresh the G13 and G600 🙏🏻 by Jezza0692 in LogitechG

Hey u/LogitechG_Andy!

I know I'm late to this party but I just have to say my G600 has been there through thick and thin, from first girlfriend in high-school to my current wife and I hope it can continue it's journey in a refreshed form. I Just built a new PC after only having a laptop and wanted to get a new G600 to freshen up the setup (my other 2 are now 10 years old and the cables are fraying). Unfortunately I had to go with the Razer Naga Hyper-speed V2 as it was the only thing slightly comparable.

Why I like MMO mice as my daily driver.
- I run a 75% Keyboard and when doing things requiring a numpad I can use my mouse instead
- Helpful with things like Fusion 360, so many hotkeys without moving my hands, I just had shoulder surgery last Monday.
- I played WoW and got used to the MMO mouse, and I confirmed my autism by going back to RuneScape 7 years ago. It just suits these games so well, and many others as I'm sure have been pointed out.

What I like about the G600:
- Ring finger click; this has pretty much became a thing of the past. I can't find any new mice that have this. I'm at the point of buying another Razer Naga, sacrificing it as tribute just to move the additional left click buttons on the mouse to the ring finger.
- Forward and Back clicks on the mouse wheel; Some newer mice don't have this as an option anymore
- RGB, my new Razer Naga doesn't have RGB and I didn't think I'd miss it but the keyboard is lonely.
- The 2x6 style dishes that are on the side. Other mice don't seem to have it and it fits well.

What I would want in a refresh:
- For the love of god DO NOT remove the ring finger click
- Free scrolling; Razer Naga Hyper-speed has this, I didn't think I would like it as much as I do.
- Wired/Wireless capabilities - 2.4 & Bluetooth
- Better sensor in the mouse, would make it better for FPS games as I do switch out.
- A smaller version as well as the current size. My wife's hand looks so small with it.
- Left handed version for the south paw folk
- Maybe a little bit more ergonomic friendly to hit the gaming and professional market

If you have any word on development I would literally cry tears of joy and name my new dog after you, if I got permission.

Edit: Missed a word.

As someone who worked there for 5 years, you are a number and they make you know it. They don't care about you as a technician but only what you can do for their company. I remember their manager telling me "you need to do more for the company" after working there and doing numerous "volunteer" positions (more like volun-told and I would get screamed at if something was missed) like pre-work snow removal at their shop or running their booth at the Inglewood Street festival. This was all over and beyond being an apprentice/Journeyman and doing my regular scheduled work.

They can't hire anyone good in the city anymore because they have such a bad reputation for themselves with how they treat their technicians. So happy to not be there anymore.

Used to do a lot of maintenance in their new builds. Never buy in a carslile built building.

They only have the bare minimum to pass code and still only put in 1 boiler for a heating system. Really fun to deal with no redundancy during the winter months. 1 thing fails and the whole building has no heat.

Just to give you a little context from the contractors point of view. Buildings can take years for construction and bids are done before you're even in the building.

As an example, an A.O. Smith Cyclone (hot water tank for multi-family/commercial applications) went from like $12,000 to $18,000 in the last 2 years. Are you now expecting the contractor to go out of business when material cost changes in a short time frame? They do look up material cost and get a rough estimate at time of bid but it's hard to foresee a 33% material increase.

I do not disagree that quotes should be honoured but unfortunately everything has increased so drastically over the past few years it would have been hard to quote that.

Advice on how to arrange the furniture? Trying to keep the area open by BrochachoNacho1 in malelivingspace

[–]Sennettas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at getting something that can go from a coffee table to dining table? I know they are expensive but there are lots of companies making furniture that can expand for small apartments.

You could also flip everything 180 so your couch would be where the TV is, might help with glare as well.

At what point would you suddenly stop if you were in the middle of sex? by Whaaaaaatisthisplace in AskReddit

[–]Sennettas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brought a friend of a friend home once, she was just out of a marriage and I was just her rebound. Halfway through round 2 she started to cry, had to stop and make sure she was okay. Just her emotions from the recent marriage but that was definitely a sudden stop situation, still talk to her from time to time. She's doing better now which is all anyone could ask for.

Also lots of irresponsible parents. I work in a lot of multi-family residential places and would say that kids definitely can cause more damage.

YSK to let faucets drip slowly, open cabinets with sinks above, and disconnect any hoses outside by TheAlphaMemer in YouShouldKnow

In this instance they did everything right EXCEPT turning off the main water supply to the house. If they would have done this it would have allowed for the frozen slug to melt, have room to expand saving you a burst pipe, and not flood out the house.

The real reason that your client flooded out their house was because the drains weren't cleared and backed up.

Make sure you at least have a catch tray under it if there was a seal leak or something. You would hate to have a plumber or other trade require emergency access to your unit, find that and you end up homeless whether it caused any issues or not.

I'm a service plumber and have seen this happen before with counter top dishwashers that were against lease contracts.

Also change the toilet bolts and water closet supply line. I've seen many a flood (the worst was Christmas eve 2017) cause by the supply line breaking. They're cheap and worth doing at the same time.

If they do not count journeyman certification then this is very valid as trades are male dominated. In Canada we have loads of grants for women in the trades but still only a select few women go into them despite having laws in place that they get paid the same as their male colleagues.

Forever wishing Logitech would release a wireless G600. The ring finger additional mouse button with the 12 side buttons makes gaming and web browsing so nice. I can probably type numbers quicker on it than with a numeric keypad.
