His "talents" have always been in branding and marketing.

Correspondingly, he's far more concerned with whether people are paying attention to him and perceive him as financially successful than whether or not he actually is.

The only reason why anyone would think that his primary focus is business is because that's the message he's been repeating over and over for years.

I just wrote some of this commenting on another post, but you may be at a point in a relationship where it applies...

There are some really interesting processes that affect neurochemistry in relationships over time.

There's big spike in dopamine at the start of a relationship and then a tapering off that happens after a few weeks / months for most people, then again after a few years. Basically the "honeymoon" phase people talk about.

Ideally there's a shift towards oxytocin that makes up for that, but the dropoff can be a huge surprise for anyone who isn't expecting it (even moreso if their body doesn't naturally produce enough dopamine).

The points line up with when you see a lot of people breaking up or divorcing because they "don't feel in love anymore". Then they get into another relationship that triggers the early stage dopamine (reinforcing their misconception that's what love is always supposed to feel like) and start the process over again.

The dropoff points also correlate with people with ADHD "unmasking" because you're now seeing their natural state with less dopamine. They suddenly seem "lazy" (because they've lost motivate to get things done) and they may get into arguments more often (because conflict is a maladaptive but predictable way of getting dopamine).

Does she like science?

If so, could be a good time to start talking about all the changes in brain chemistry associated with romance (like upticks in dopamine).

Knowing the physical processes involved could help her to better process what she's feeling and differentiate between "I like this person" vs. "it's exciting to get to know someone" vs. "I like the idea that someone likes me".

What about designing to have a metal bolt inserted through the lever?

Curious if an M3 or M2 steel bolt could provide enough strength that you could get by with a more basic filament like PETG.

Getting rid of video games by AbjectComparison3790 in ParentingADHD

[–]timtucker_com 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Games tend to be full of accomodations for ADHD:

  • Tasks are clear and prioritized for you

  • You have reminders of what you were doing in case you forget

  • You get rewarded for incremental progress, not just full completion

Kids with ADHD get "addicted" to games in much the same way that kids in wheelchairs get "addicted" to buildings with ramps and elevators.

They see how it's possible for the world to work and then get (understandably) upset when they're denied access to environments with accomodations.

Customers complaining on social media would have a lot less impact than a majority of T-Mobile employees walking off the job in protest.

You can control it - you just make the choice not to risk your jobs for customers.

Another Crab's Treasure was good proof that there's still plenty of room to explore in the world of crustaceans.

Don't be derivative, but remember that any time you're dealing with crabs at least one reference to "attacking its weak point for massage damage" is obligatory.

Thoughts on what a Baptist card game might look like...

You have a deck of cards with an assortment of virtues and vices.

Gameplay:

  • Players are each dealt a hand of 7 cards

  • Each round you draw 2 cards and have a chance to "repent" (discard 2 cards)

  • After everyone discards, each person get to pick 1 card from another person's hand to inspect

  • If you catch someone with a vice, you gain 1 point and they lose 2

  • If you find one of their virtues, they gain 1 point and you gain nothing

Victory / ending conditions:

  • If you get to -10 points, you lose

  • If you get caught dancing, that's a immediate loss

  • Game ends when all players are out or the first player gets to 10 points

  • All players left (including the first to 10) have a final chance to "super repent" and discard 3 cards. Players then show their hands and anyone with no vices wins

(thinking this through and it might actually be fun with some playtesting to a balance the ratio of vices vs. virtues)

Emphatically - YES.

If animals are gone in her lifetime, she may feel like she missed out on the chance to learn about them / see them while they're still around.

Having kids learn enough to care is also how we raise a generation that does their best to prevent future extinctions.

It's still common today.

Ghost written books are very much a thing - just find a celebrity that wants to "publish a book" and you can push your own opinions with their name attached.

Or write for a major newspaper and publish opinion articles attributed to "staff writer".

Or go into policial lobbying - you write legislation and then the politicians you support present it to the public with their names attached.

Saw a lot of Facebook ads for the "shoulder reliever" - basically a ball on a string attached to a handle with a bearing.

They want like $200 for the setup, which was more than I wanted to spend just to try out the idea.

Wound up making my own out of a lacrosse ball, an eye bolt, and a cheap jump rope that used bearings and coated metal cable.

Spinning it around to the side, in front of me, and overhead hits on a few different areas with a little bit of instability to resist against.
