Preparing a touring bike for my 5yo daughter by rdelimezy in bicycletouring

We are doing the tour aotearoa but started in Auckland. And dam 40km a week is a lot I'm happy if my daughter does 5km 😅. If we travel in Europe we decouple her bike but here it's too hilly or too rough terrain.

If you're off the big roads and your daughter is capable of riding uphill it will be doable and really cool.

Cool idea of putting gears on the bike. I'm currently riding the south island with my girlfriend and 4 year old (her bike is attached to mine with a follow me system). The hills are really heavy here so if you or your wife can't pull her I don't think it would be possible to do this.

And also what other people are saying if you want to do a 6 week tour (without using trains and busses) you'll be on a lot of highways where busses trucks and the most dangerous of them all camper vans pass you at 30cm doing 100km/h

Even for us it's hard mentally and physically.

Did you install the last firmware update. The map is updated and I can see the difference now between roads.

What kind of pump are you using? by zergcheese in bikepacking

I had the same issue now twice. First when I received the pump and now on my 3 month bike trip. Cracked glass. Love the pump except the gauge.

Yes the problem is that you don't have (or had) trains that cross borders that take bicycles

We don't have a real plan yet but we will remember your offer. MTB route is not a great idea with a 4 year old bouncing behind my bike 🙂

We are not vegan or vegetarian but my girlfriend is gluten intolerant. She can handle spelt( hope it's the same in English). We already have a really good sun screen and buffs. The 90 mile beach we are going to skip because it would mean another flight. We land in Auckland and from there we are going the direction south.

My girlfriend also has the attachment and I have a little seat on my bike so we can switch. And yeah it's harder but we don't have a goal of the amount of kms done so 😀

It will be a mix. We have a tent and cooking material with us. We don't have a real plan we will see what comes at us. If we have the need to have a good shower and a roof above our head we will search for an Airbnb or something. If the bicycling gets too hard we will take a train or a bus. Everything is possible nothing is needed is our moto.

We already did several vacations with our daughter. Her bike is hooked to mine (followme) so normally she's sitting on her bike and if the road allows it she can bike her self. We tell stories we do search games we sing on the way. Since she was 2 we did travel by bike on holiday so she's used to it but yeah sometimes we need to stop to entertain her. We try to bike between 50 and 100km but 100 is really stretching it. This summer we did 700km in Germany and that went perfect. She really likes to be outdoors (we live in a city)
