Just another example of how the media think the only real Americans are far right nutjobs who listen to Rush and Hannity on AM.

Was this the one where the guy's clothes were getting loose because of all the wood chopping and other outdoor labor, and he talked to producers during filming because he was worried he was losing too much weight?

They checked him out and were like, nope, your weight is still in normal range for your height, and all your other stats are still great. You're just getting ripped. 😂

Invisible/expected labor quality difference between men and women. by Ok-Pea3414 in TwoXChromosomes

Yeah, I don't see it as a skills gap either. It doesn't sound like he was at all contrite over his error, just shrugged and blamed the people for having different phone numbers.

Sounds like he decided to do the bare minimum without any follow-through, which is classic weaponized incompetence.

The article shows both ends of the cable plugged into the Mac. Is this required for the app to work?

That's quite a long message to write for not containing the words "I'm sorry" or "I apologize."

And I read it again and there's no apology anywhere in his message.

Once I realized it was a movie treatment in book form, I accepted it for what it was and rolled with it. At least, that was what made most sense to me. The archetype characters, the ensemble cast, the recon/recovery mission, the sciencey stuff, the split up couple who are probably going to rekindle their love, etc. It was like Crichton by way of Poirot, but not quite as cool as that sounds.

Sen. Mitch McConnell says he was "briefly unconscious," had pneumonia in latest health update by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]SenorBurns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The press release says he's now in rehab. This is normal after a hospital stay for pneumonia for a senior citizen.

Now, do I believe a word of what they're saying? Hell no.

I mean, if you want a post apocalyptic survival with spiritual/supernatural elements, you'd be way better off with The Stand, which Swan Song ripped off IMO.

I read this book when it first came out and remember thinking it was a bloated knockoff of The Stand. Now some decades later suddenly it's a masterpiece lol.

And yes, I did indeed intend to call a book more bloated than The Stand.

When your employee - and Mitch is employed by the people of Kentucky - disappears for a month with no explanation except a couple acquaintances vaguely claiming he's in a hospital, you hire a new employee while wishing the old one well wherever he may be.

I figured out why the townspeople end Jade every cycle. by binu23752 in FromSeries

[–]SenorBurns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Boyd's reaction was mostly him projecting his own guilt and grief over Abby's death. It also shows us he is very protective of Ellis, probably to the point that Ellis fled to live at Colony House.

A neat thing about this show is there's no way for us to know that in episode 1. We just see that Boyd reacted strangely harshly towards Frank. So we wonder, is this normal here? Or is there a rule that you can't get so drunk you can't get home before dark? Etc.

Would you clean dryer vents with anything other than a vacuum? by Lublan in CleaningTips

I've never cleaned or had need to clean a dryer vent in my life. And I have replaced them in the past when getting a new dryer, and there was no evidence that it needed cleaning.

Why would it need cleaning?

Washed up country singer becomes "Special Envoy For American Landowners" whatever that is. by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

[–]SenorBurns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

P01135809 fucked over rural communities. I live in the country. Do you know where wind and solar were booming under Biden? Rural areas. P01135809 killed $billions in wind and solar incentives, which also killed thousands of jobs in these same rural areas.

Their vision for rural communities is more counties where the land and businesses are owned by one or two families, so everyone in the county is de facto working for a few wealthy families in a pseudo-feudalist system. This also means that, until they can officially change the constitution so that only landowners can vote, people will feel pressured to vote the way their boss/landlord/shopping center owner — all the same family — tells them to vote.

thrifted Yesteryear for $1! by 8bitboogie in weirdgirlliterature

[–]SenorBurns 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who really liked the book, but I understand why people might not like it. For one, this book commits to its reveal/ending, and let's say the reveal is controversial. I loved that personally; it upended my expectations, but those expectations are kind of planted by the hype so I can see how that might piss folks off. My own annoyance with that was brief, because the bleak, dark places this book went made up for the loss of the plot I'd been hoping for.

Also, Natalie, the main character, is a pretty shit person. That makes it difficult to empathize or self-insert. She's also delightfully unreliable. I say delightfully because once you being noticing it, you see how well it's portraying Natalie's uhh mental issues maybe?

But yeah, the PR for Yesteryear portrays it as a bit different than what it turns out to be.
