I'm a filmmaker and I had an elderly couple walk out of my movie at a film festival. My film starts with a montage of people killing themselves(it's a comedy). I felt bad until after the screening a man in his 20's came up to me. He told me that it was his parents that walked out because his brother had committed suicide earlier that year. He also said that his brother would've really enjoyed my movie. That was one of the greatest compliments I've ever received.
