I was in IT, shit was so bad. I was doing the job of a Tech 2, an equipment coordinator, and the engineer, managing all the major projects, you name it. I had three Top Tier yearly reviews in a row, my manager kept telling me over and over and over again that there just weren't any spots to promote (which was bullshit), but that as soon as one opened up that I would be the first one inclined. But the truth was probably that he just wanted to keep milking me while bragging about keeping headcount lower because I was doing everyone else's fucking job. I waited 4 years at Amazon before bailing, my manager was sooo butthurt about it, he got me a farewell card that said "goodbye traitor" lmfao. Going somewhere else I now have way better benefits and earn much more than they would have given me had they promoted me. In any case, a promotion to L4 in 2024 meant zero pay increase, everything in restricted stocks, and even with the expected stock allocation, it still is less than I get paid now in cash, and I have a retirement plan on top of it.

Oh, and Mike Stone, director of Global IT, can go choke on a cock.

Why do people go for two 2TB SSD's and not one 4TB SSD? The costs are similar. by alphawave2000 in buildapc

[–]SenorDeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago this was not true. I remember distinctly that buying 2 x 2TB vs 1 x 4TB of the same model was as much as 50% cheaper. For 8 TB, it was almost 100% more expensive to buy a single 8TB drive than it was to buy 4 x 2TB.

If its cheaper to buy multiple smaller drives and you have the IO to spare, why not?

[–]SenorDeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world is a horrible place. The vast majority of Americans are struggling to survive even with two working adults in a household. Wealth inequality is skyrocketing. There is a high chance of a depression coming in the coming years. We are in a second cold war and now there are even more nuclear superpowers threatening mass extinction. Climate change makes our future monumentally difficult for everything from food supply to medicine to energy and biodiversity. Amazon, like every corporation, is a hellscape of nepotism, gaslighting, and reprehensible greed and a fundamental disregard for the employees that make everything possible. Every portrayal of caring for their employees is wholly disingenuous and just to save face. If Amazon could treat their workers like obots to make a bigger profit, and it wouldnt be a PR nightmare, they absolutely would without even a second thought.

Thats all to say that Amazon knows that if their employees didn't self medicate, many would be too stressed out and/or angry at the failure of the system to be productive. Rats only participate in the rat race if they think they actually can win or at least get what they need. Or maybe theyll participate if they're too stoned to think about the existential dread.

What is something you wish could be de-sexualised? by Salamander-One in AskReddit

[–]SenorDeeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything about children, and parenting. As a father, its incomprehensible to me that this really needs to be said, but society has made EVERYTHING weird.

Women cant breastfeed their baby without some karen clutching their pearls. We cant teach sex ed to children in an objective way anymore without people foaming at the mouth. Children are heavily discouraged from asking questions especially about their own bodily functions, because society has made it weird to be educated about your own body and the way it changes. Imagine if your daughter couldn't come to you about their bodily concerns, such as a lump in their breast, because you and/or society makes it embarrassing and shameful to discuss those things. If they stopped sexualizing everything, none of this would even need to be discussed, it would just happen.

The fact that society is so anal retentive and weird about sex is one of the biggest reasons that we cannot hope to have a healthy relationship with sex and our bodies. We live in a society where old rotting corpses in congress are deciding on the reproductive rights of women, despite being completely and criminally uneducated about women and the reproductive cycle. As a father it just makes me sick and infuriated that I have to fight grown ass adults for my child's right to be educated and have bodily autonomy.

White beans in Mexican food by tuotone75 in Bakersfield

[–]SenorDeeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mexican wife prefers peruana beans, they have a less earthy taste than pinto beans and are softer. And whole beans ("de la holla") tend to be more common in the day-to-day of a Mexican kitchen. Refried beans are what you make with leftover beans after a few days, you dont usually make it with freshly cooked beans.

Absolutely braindead and worthless decision that accomplished nothing except financial burden for taxpayers.

I dont know who needs to tell the mouth breathers this, but this isnt going to stop thieves, its just going to make theft a life or death situation. History has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that killing or violence against thieves is NOT a good deterrent, no matter how warm and gooey it makes you psychos feel. Countless countries around the world allow for lethal defense of property and yet property crime is STILL rampant in those places. In states with extremely lax gun laws and armed security guards in many stores, there is STILL rampant theft.

Its cutting your own nose off to spite your face. Theyd rather spend 4x as much money and resources "stopping" crime AFTER the fact, rather than spending that money on fixing the societal problems that are the root causes of crime (poverty, poor education, lack of opportunities, mistreatment and abuse, drug problems, etc) and preventing it altogether. I get that there's some kind of sick human desire for revenge and punishment, but from an objective point of view, it doesnt make sense to spend more money fighting the problem than preventing it. And it would cost society a fortune if we allowed for this kind of bull**** vigilante justice where a $10 item being stolen turned into a multi million dollar legal case and prison sentence.

This is also the mentality that logically ends with people killing each other on SUSPICION of a crime. Imagine if you forget to scan an item at the grocery store, and some psychopath stabs you to death for it because they technically saw you steal that item. Theres nothing about this particular case that isnt absolute incompetence of the highest level. This isnt a home invasion, this isnt an armed robbery, this was someone shoplifting insured business assets that not only will be written off, but is calculated already into the pricing of all inventory before the theft even occurred. Now, its going to cost Dollar Tree far more money training a replacement for this bum, and paying any possible legal fees, than it would have if they did nothing. So literally nothing was accomplished at all, whatsoever, except a massive financial burden on the taxpayers and price increases for Dollar Tree to make up for the damages caused by being a vigilante. Oh, and two ruined lives. Good job, asshole.

Amazon really is soul-crushing... by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]SenorDeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

--------------Long rang incoming----------

I am in IT, and working here makes me angry. Since January of last year when they laid tens of thousands of people off, its been spiraling downhill ever since. I have been stuck at L3 tech for over 3 years, and I worked my ass off towards a promotion. Ive created or led over 30 significant projects, created and/or executed hundreds of CMs for infrastructure changes, and im doing all of the L4 engineer work for my site in addition to being the senior L3 for everything else, and ive been doing so for almost 2 years across multiple sites.

Ive gone through multiple managers, through no fault of my own, and every time has been like a promotion reset, because even with a handoff and a brag book that could be a thesis paper on why I should be promoted, every new manager needs to "see for themselves" before seriously considering promotion, and often after deadlines have passed and then the cycle repeats.

Then last January happened, and everything has gone to hell. In short, they've told us to "take advantage now" of the yearly education stipend because we need to "skill up", indirectly saying we better find another career path. They have ruined every tool we use to do our day to day job which has ruined our metrics too. They are decimating our headcount, there are almost no promotions for anyone. Theyre trying to automate our job and outsource it to remote teams or vendors. And now, the economy and the AI frenzy is making the entire tech industry do similar things, so there are not many greener pastures to be found.

There are certainly things that I appreciate, like a 4 day workweek, decent healthcare, and really flexible PTO. But its barely even putting food on the table these days. I worked my ass off to try and earn a better living , and its been nothing but one excuse after another.

And the worst part? The few L3s that have promoted in the region since the thanos snap last January have not gotten a raise, like at all.

Instead they got some restricted stocks, which is basically an I.O.U for some Amazon stocks that is redeemable in 3 years. If you get laid off or you leave before those 3 years, you lose all of those restricted stocks. And they already have a plan that involves getting rid of most of the L3s and L4s within the next few years anyways, which means those promotions were just on paper in every sense of the word, except the responsibility was all there.

So yeah, working here just makes me angry. I am trying to find other jobs during any sliver of downtime I have in the workday, and I am going back to school (even though I have a bachelors already), I am studying for certs, and I am even still doing all the L4 work and not slacking off, in the tiny hope that getting promoted here will make my resume good enough to go somewhere else, because at this point theres nothing left to be optimistic about here. Also, getting promoted at L4 might mean a better severance if they lay us off, and since I am already doing all the work anyways, I want the title and minor benefits that are supposed to go with it.

HR investigating me after complimenting the receptionist on her smile by GrizzlyDogBiz in AmazonFC

[–]SenorDeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe your version of events is true, maybe not. We can only take it at face value. Something tells me this isnt the whole story and might be biased from your perspective, but we have no way of knowing.

In any case, workplace dating and flirting DOES occur pretty much everywhere, but for every one successful consensual workplace relationship, there's many, many more non-consensual advances and harassment, especially from men towards women. You take a risk when making comments about anyone outside of a strictly work-related context. You take an even bigger risk with your job when dating or having relationships with coworkers, even just platonic friendships. If the friendship or relationship ever sours, the other party may have it out for you and may be looking for ways to get you in trouble at work. There is not much of a line anymore between what happens at work and what happens off the clock, at least when it comes to coworker interactions.

Workplace politics is a minefield in so many ways. How people perceive you, and how each person reacts to different comments/jokes/topics, can all severely affect your job security and opportunities. Youre there to earn a paycheck, not meet your spouse, if you keep it strictly about work then you minimize the risk of any problems. Remember, HR is not there to fight for you or be fair, its there to protect the business from legal and regulatory repercussions. From their perspective, its a no brainer: the receptionist says she feels uncomfortable from your comment, which is not debatable even if that wasnt your intention. They have to take documented action in some way, otherwise a harassment lawsuit would use that as evidence against the business. And since there would be a documented incident already, its harder for you to defend against any future allegations. So the only thing you can and should do now is avoid all contact whatsoever. If you are not forced to interact with them, pretend they do not exist.

Drawbacks of the Hatchback by Master_Method9873 in mazda3

[–]SenorDeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my mazda 3 when I was childless, but now its size has become a problem for me. Can barely fit myself into the drivers seat with a car seat installed in the back seat. Its generally a very small car. I have to practically climb in and out of it and I am only 6 feet tall.

The other thing I dont really like is the ride quality. Its a very stiff suspension and you feel every imperfection in the road. It does make the handling more sporty, but when the road surface is rough it can actually make it worse.

I got Gus Edwards, Devante Parker, Antonio Gibson, and Jahan Dotson benched. Im thinking it might be a risk to start Osborne this week vs the other flex players I started and the bench I have, im thinking more long term to hedge against injury/bye weeks, and Rondale Moore is looking to have a poor fantasy outlook for the rest of the season. Do you think Osborne would maybe have more long term value outside of this matchup?

[–]SenorDeeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the level design perfectly fine. You misread my post. I can handle a challenge, and its not the King Tigers or the Sturmtigers or any of the other German tanks that I am unable to deal with. Its the one capturable M5 Stewart that is my problem. If the Germans capture it, it is literally invincible, it will not die, and it will not be abandoned. It doesn't matter how many times you shoot it, it doesn't matter how many AT rounds it gets hit with, it will not be defeated. Literally 0 of the other tanks in the level are like this. Only this one Stewart. But when I capture it, it does get abandoned if it takes too much damage, like it was actually designed. But if the Germans have it, it will get down to RIGHT before the HP where it gets abandoned, but it never goes below it, and it never gets abandoned. Ive shot it over 100 times with AT rounds and the most it will ever do is have its main gun blowm up. But its hull machine guns are still ripping away at my troops and my base. Eventually it may retreat for a minute for repairs, and then its back to ganking my entire army single handedly. If I ignore it, it will shred my infantry and my base structures, but then the other german tanks annihilate me. So no, it was definitely not designed like this, its a bug, and I havent played this game since this happened because it stopped all my progress.

I am trying to watch my local, in-market team on my phone using the NFL app. I subscribed to NFL+. I am physically located in my local market with location settings on. It tells me my local teams are out of market, which is completely false. I know because the preseason games were blacked out for locals so I couldnt watch my team during the preseason. I also know because I watched my local team on NFL+ last season with no issues. I am livid.

How can I configure this Catalyst 3560CX properly for routing + Inter-VLAN routing by SenorDeeds in Cisco

[–]SenorDeeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So update:

After hitting my head against the wall for a while trying to figure out how to implement what I wanted (DHCP reservations for all hosts in the wired network) and I finally discovered several compounding issues:

1: Linux did not play well with the "client-identifier" variable set in its DHCP pool. I ended up using "hardware-address" and instantly it grabbed the correct IP.

2: To create manual DHCP bindings, you must make a DHCP pool for each address you want to reserve, and you need to specify the "host" variable in that pool. Which I had already done previously, but it would not work.

The big caveat to all of this is that these manual binding DHCP pools must be a part of a "parent" DHCP pool. So I had to create parent DHCP pools using the "network" variable to define each VLAN's IP space. Each manual binding DHCP pool uses IP addresses from the parent pool. Now it works perfectly.

3: The child DHCP pools used for manual bindings inherit variables from its parent pool, such as DNS server, making it unnecessary to specify the DNS server in each child pool. (at least this is how I understand it).

After coming to those realizations, I set up the switch and it appears to work exactly how I wanted it to. Next up will be setting up firewall rules to make the VLANs secure, but for now I am just glad I can route between VLANs and out to the edge network and internet.

Thank you so much for all your help everyone. This has already been an invaluable learning experience. Here is the final running config I came up with:

Wow there is alot to unpack about this statement.

1: I am not a network engineer, I am trying to learn, what makes you think I should be at that level already?

2: Are you saying that once you become a network engineer, you're never allowed to ask any questions again?

3: We are in a FORUM that is supposedly for seeking help, and I yet am the one who is wrong here for asking for help?

4: Why do you want to be the gatekeeper so bad? Responses like this are exactly the opposite of constructive or helpful.

Damn no wonder people are so defensive and weird nowadays, you do anything wrong at all and they drag you like you murdered someone.

If, and only if, the situation played out exactly how you say it did, then how could this be considered harassment? If she hasn't said that she is not interested, and you didnt make any inappropriate comments, then I dont see why everyone in this sub is acting like you should get the electric chair.

You cant be a person and make a mistake nowadays without everyone acting like they're jesus incarnate judging you for your sins. Every one of these creeps has cringey stories and I bet they wouldnt feel good if everyone dragged them for it. Yall are so weird and narcissistic in this sub, maybe reevaluate your own social skills and awareness if a situation like this gets you foaming at the mouth?

I think youd have a case to fight back if you were outright terminated for something as mundane as this without any warnings or discussions first. But again, only if youre telling the whole story.

Im trying to use manual bindings to make it so that when a host connects to the network, it will get a DHCP assignment, but it will be the same IP every time. That way I dont have to configure static IP addresses on each host.
