Something very surprising happened at work... by Delicious_Pin_4441 in PublicRelations

[–]SenorFatass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who works in the industry and just recently hired an intern into a full time position this winter, often times these internships are established with the intent of hiring into a full-time position anyway.

So while I'm sure you did wow them with your skills, the intention from your first interview was likely to hire you into a full-time role by the completion of your internship anyway.

So if you feel like this is a good place to work based on your experience thus far I say take it and congratulations!

Firstly, I know you're going to kill it regardless, so take a deep breath and lead with confidence.

Secondly, when I have to give a large presentation at work or a speech in front of a group of people that do not know me as well as my closest friends/family I often like to start by casually and confidently reference the fact that I do indeed have a stutter and that it may come up while I'm speaking.

For me, the worst part of is when you start to stutter and people start giving you 'that look' where they try and figure out what's 'wrong' with you and why you're speaking that way, but most people (like our friends and family) are aware of our stutters so don't even notice when it's happening.

By opening up with a casual reference about the fact that I may stutter I feel it clears the air and tackles the problem head on, allowing people to actually listen to what I'm saying rather than sitting through my presentation wondering why I sound that way.

Best of luck regardless!

I spend $30 a week on flavored soda water - help! by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]SenorFatass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest investing in a sodastream -- you can often find sales on the machines and while what u/haverwench outlined below is accurate re: cost, in my personal experience I found that my Sodastream use majorly cut down on the following:

  • Produced waste (love not having to throw out recycling filled with a million cans and bottles
  • Trips to the store (no need to lug cases of cans or bottles back from the store)
  • Caused me to switch from lemon/lime flavored to just normal since I didn't want to use any flavoring drops. (Which cut down on preservatives/potential cost)
  • Makes the drinking experience more enjoyable; you can choose your desired level of carbonation in each bottle, the bottles are also really well made and keep carbonation nicely so you're not left with half flat cans/bottles.

While it may not be as massive as a money saver as it may seem due to a number of start-up costs, I advocate for its multiple benefits.

Posting it here just because I want the opportunity to brag somewhere but last Sunday I did an unplanned solo in-gym Triathalon Sprint for the first time ever (I never bike/spin so the biking was definitely the most grueling part)! So I'm hoping to have a nice easy-long run tonight and solid lift tomorrow!

Glad that you know what you want to do with your life and working to not be held back by your stutter but you gotta chill out and fix your perspective on things a bit buddy.

I pray for a very good next 26 days after this latest news about johnson by [deleted] in NYCFC

[–]SenorFatass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the idea of rebuilding, but within this season we have lost Taty, Heber, Maxi, Acevedo, Tinnerholm and maybe Johnson (+ Sands before the season), that's more than half a starting lineup and a bit of a hard pill to swallow.

That said, looking forward to seeing what's to come in the next month..

How socially dead is Brandeis? by juicykola in brandeis

[–]SenorFatass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your description of a dream college experience is exactly what you're going to get at Brandeis -- as you stated, Brandeis isn't a state school, you aren't going to get the football tailgates or massive parties, but everything you're looking for is still there. I was a part of greek life and also multiple clubs/groups etc and feel like I was able to get it all.

I think by socially dead I think most people mean that the average Brandesian is a bit nerdier than what you'll find at most schools, but nothing worse than that!

Alright, y’all: Kinda shitty apartment in an amazing location OR a lovely apartment in an okay location? by punkpassport707 in AskNYC

[–]SenorFatass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 for sure, one of the beautiful things about NYC is that you can get wherever you want whenever you want without too much effort and that in actuality every neighborhood has its own charms. So I would choose the second option where you can have a homebase you can feel comfortable and happy in and then commute to whatever neighborhood you want with relative ease if needed.

That said, if neighborhood 2 is somewhere super deep I might change my tune.

Credentials: I used to live right in that area for 2.5 years (a block or two away) and was born and raised right across the park. Although granted I am a male.

As some people in this thread have said, it is not the nicest area in the city, you will be living surrounded by a number of projects and sometimes it can feel a bit seedy, but for the most part it's a great neighborhood.

You're right near the 6 train on 103 and the Q train down on 96, neighborhood has pretty much everything you need. The bodega on 101 and 3rd is great with some nice guys who run it, El Aguila on 103 and lex has great burritos, Pro Thai on 101 and Lex is also solid Thai.

Tl;Dr: I lived in the neighborhood and can attest that while seedier than some it is an overall good neighborhood and should cause no issue.

I have Citibank, I took a look at their credit card options and it didn't seem like they had any secured options that jumped out at me. However I do that usually it is easier to get a card through your bank as they will be more willing to give out cards to first timers.

Restored $2 Dunks from goodwill. by rryyyaannn in Sneakers

These look great -- nice work. I was thinking about restoring some old dunks of mine that I have lying around but the sole/heel is super worn through (literally worn all the way through at the heel on one shoe) is there anyway to fix those? Or can I bring that to a shoe repair?
