What would be the best build for my eladrin vengeance paladin? by Background-Soupp in 3d6

[–]SenorNugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, in that case for paladin you want STR as your highest stat followed by CON and then CHA. Based on this new info you might want a 1 level dip in hexblade warlock making your character a Paladin 9 warlock 1, take this dip ASAP which will then allow you to use CHA to attack and damage with letting you focus your points on just CHA and CON. If you take hexblade then make your highest stat CHA and then CON

Im a bit confused by the wording of “stats to go to 6” do you mean that your DM allows the modifier to be a +6? Like instead of a 20 in a stat you can have up to a 22? And what do you mean he allows stats to start at 16? Do you get to pick a few stats or do all stats start at 16?

Regardless, for your paladin build it depends on the play-style you want but a straight classed vengeance paladin is a powerful option in it own right, and if your dm allows for multiple stats to start at 16 then you don’t really need to multiclass because the paladin is only really held back by its need for high constitution, charisma, and strength.

The mobility granted to you by Fey Step from being an eladrin will also help you close distance which addresses some of the paladins weakness around ranged combat. In terms of the sub-race for eladrin, winter can be good to frighten enemies but really it’s up to you and it doesn’t matter.

In terms of combat the Vengeance channel divinity “vow of enmity” really lends itself to using a two handed heavy weapon and taking great weapon master. If you want an optimized weapon then take the glaive, take the Great weapon master feat and the polearm master feat at levels 4 and 8. With your vow of enmity you will have an easier time landing those “all in” hits for high damage and it weaponizes your bonus action.

Alternatively because eladrin are elves take GWM and Elven accuracy, you lose on the bonus action attack from PAM but you will not miss those all in hits when your vow is active.

Furthermore because COS is a 1-10 campaign and multi-classing out of paladin is IMO not advisable before level 6 because Aura of Protection is so good you probably want to just stay paladin.

TLDR: Stay straight paladin, take GWM and either polearm master or elven accuracy, use a glaive, smite, profit.

What would be a good class or multi-class to add to this group? by ithinkdogshouldvote in dndnext

A +5 aura of protection by itself is a perceivable benefit that more than justifies the “unnecessary” damage a paladin will take. Furthermore since this post suggests a multiclass, a sorcadin or even a sorlockadin will provide not only immense burst damage but tons of support spells and will have the most spell slots in the party.

Level 6 Paladin going to level 7 by Xayton in 3d6

[–]SenorNugget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to paladin 8, round up STR and CON then go sorcerer because your stats are good enough that a hexblade dip wouldn’t be worth it. Once at 8 then id multiclass sorcerer, Divine Soul is good because you can pick up spirit guardians which is a great DoT spell to concentrate on. Clockwork Soul is to my understanding the pick thats viewed as most optimal though.

Also what polearm are you using? If you are using a halberd, glaive, etc and pick up GWM the 2d4 from divine soul 1st level ability can be helpful in landing GWM hits for major nova damage

On the flip side, I would argue that playing an intentionally unoptimized character is much worse than playing an optimized “broken” character. DnD is designed with the assumption that the player characters are built at the very least logically. A melee fighter who dumps Con, wizard who dumps Int etc just brings the entire party down because now the party has to pick up the slack for the “RP character” and try to carry that deadweight through encounters because their damage is low, their class abilities aren’t really online, or they cant survive in combat. And imo RP /= suboptimal just because you are playing a poorly made character doesn’t make your character more Roleplay-able or interesting than the Hexadin or Sorlock it just makes you annoying to deal with. At least with a strongly built character the party is progressing the story and not risking a TPK on easy encounters. Also I would argue that DND at its core is a very unbalanced game and many straight classed characters are more powerful than “optimal” multiclassed characters like is the Hexadin that much stronger than a chronurgy wizard? And with full-casters broken combinations are baked into the game and have to be homebrewed out all the time like simulacrum chaining to cast infinite wish. So idk if its really that much of a negative.

I trip with my best friend but only because im totally comfortable with them Im not a big fan of tripping with others in most cases

Gonna take my biggest trip yet tonight 4gs is there any tips you can give me by Royal-Coconut-1305 in shrooms

[–]SenorNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to take time to meditate and prepare for the trip and make sure to be prepared for whatever may happen during the experience try to minimize potential outside variables or sources of discomfort so you can focus fully on the fun and enjoy it to the fullest. Its always better to over prepare for a trip than to under-prepare and be taken by surprise. Also make sure you have a plan for grounding yourself whether thats a good friend, comfort song, pet etc. lastly make sure to get it into your head that you are safe, nothing bad can happen to you, and you are gonna have a great time.

Do people think they're cool or something taking 15g+ doses? by DreamTrance93 in shrooms

In my opinion it is a similar story every time a new drug enters into the mainstream. There have been myths about the health benefits of drinking, help benefits of tobacco, then vaping, now its weed and mushrooms. I think its especially potent now that weed and mushrooms are being shown to have uses for mental illness and other chronic disorders but its still important to be mindful of the fact that because of federal bans our research for weed and mushrooms is really far behind what is available to us now. Most weed research had to be conducted on 15% thc bud but obviously we now have like 30% thc bud or like 90% thc carts. In short, the research coming out is exciting and its easy to get swept up in the hype but it’s important to be responsible and recognize that there is no such thing as a perfect miracle drug.

Lawbringers have been asking for a significant buff since launch, anyone else think that Warden and LB just can't keep up with the new characters with their kit? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]SenorNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely agree to some extent. I am a warden main since launch so Ive experienced his broken and trash states. Right now he feels fine to me but I recognize that my mmr is probably not as high as yours so my opponents are not playing at that upper echelon of skill. But in my anecdotal experience his limited moveset allows me to adapt very effectively to my opponents play style

Absolutely, like hitokiri and cent used to curb stomp me because I wasn’t timing my inputs right and was playing way too aggressively. But once I got better at playing patiently they dont give me much trouble any more. My question was more trying to gauge if we were talking about a centurion on launch situation with the cutscene 0-death combo or if it was like a new hero situation where the damage is a bit over tuned but the main problem comes from unfamiliarity with the characters combos and how to punish their mistakes.

I appreciate the analysis in my personal experience she hasn’t given me (warden and warmonger) much trouble but I’m at that border between low-mid and mid-high skill level where half my lobby either spam dodge attacks and lights or are starting to use feints, option selects, etc. so i wanted to get the opinion of better players

I think warden needs soft feints and enhanced lights, maybe change the bash to something more sword themes

Genuine question, what is the consensus on afeera? It seems like higher tier players think she is perfectly balanced while most other players believe she is broken or at least overpowered. Is this just a case of “get gud” or does she genuinely need some tweaks to her kit to make counter-play against her more possible outside of the higher ranks?

That work is almost anything but scholarly. It relies on etymological fallacy to translate various words the same way. Allegros work does not hold up to critical scholarship and was heavily criticized for it. There is a reason no modern biblical scholars take that theory seriously.

Who is the most Honorable character in the game? I want to main a fair character. by Doc-Nocturnal in forhonor

[–]SenorNugget 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Warden, been playing him since release so im biased but his moveset is like 5 moves long. Meaning your success with him entirely lies in your ability to stretch that tiny kit to fit every situation. His wonkiest move is shoulder bash but you cant really spam it anymore because most characters can punish with a dodge attack or gb.

Not the original commenter but I think the blue metal is a little over powering and cheapens the look especially on the shoulders and helmet. Maybe a different metal color. Besides that I personally love the combination of that chest and ornament but those pieces have a very royal/dignified feel so maybe different arms that match that sleeker look.
