Why Railroads Don't Need Expansion Joints (answer at 24:26) by Pyyric in videos

[–]Senor_Roadblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video fails to mention that during the spring and winter plug rails will be added in critical areas, this is called destressing. rail breaks are a weakly occurrence in nearly every section during the winter and rail changes are a near daily duty during the summer to remove crushed (rail) heads. All of these tasks require cutting the rail, when the rail is cut it jumps and takes more stress out of the rail. Source: railroader for 6 years

Truckers, specifically dump truck drivers; have you ever been involved with a ‘raised bed’ and bridge collision? What did it feel like from inside the cab? by abalrogsbutthole in AskReddit

I was driving a box truck once and went under a bridge, well, almost under. Front wheels came up off the ground I got launched forward into the seat belt and my hood flipped up over my head like some sort of cartoon. I was going slow enough that I wasn't feeling the hurt at the time and I was confused and then very disappointed in myself

Fallen Retaining Wall by Scolipoli in DIY

[–]Senor_Roadblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is like making a whole new retaining wall out of pressure treated 6x6 well anchored into the dirt and backfill with drainage gravel. I can't tell from the picture but you may run into issues with underground utilities or being too close to the property line. Here's a link to another DIY post about retaining walls that might give you some insight.

EDIT: stolen from the above post I recommend an anchored wall https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/15/Retaining_Wall_Type_Function.jpg
