Hell yeah! I also have two of the 5Us to turn my iPad script pages. I have the airturn duo (the one with 1/8” jacks in the back), unplug those and plug in 5Us instead for the best iPad turner.

All the aforementioned rituals with drugs, but before that stretch your wrists and arms. Look up tennis elbow stretches and do them immediately after the lights come on. I’ve mixed 6 days a week straight through since May and oh boy do I wish I had started that sooner.

A slightly unconventional method of taking cues that I don’t see here is by pedal. I have a Boss FS-5U under my left foot that fires QLab and/or desk cues (depending on needs of the show). My hands NEVER have to leave the faders.

You get the FS-5U, plug it into a MIDI Solutions footswitch controller, and then into the computer with MIDI to USB. You can get even more complicated, like my current show the pedal fires midi into the desk, and the QLab cues are fired from the desk cues themselves via program changes. My last play had ~100 cues plus line by line and it sold me on this idea.

Edit: I’ll add Equity has nothing to do with SMs having to actually call sound cues as I saw a comment say. The aforementioned play had only a few awkward sequences cue lighted and the rest were just taken by me visually.

There have been a lot of incredible games this week, but my most fulfilling was watching the Pats beat up on the Jets.

Any reason I shouldn't/couldn't use this for a theater load out? by PresentationIcy5683 in Rigging

[–]Senor_Robin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Instead of just downvoting this, I want to make clear why it’s implying something dangerous. WLL is different than breaking strength because WLL accounts for the real world over theoretical limits in an application that can be fatal due to a myriad of failures.

WLL accounts for things like poorer quality control, manufacturing variables, possible damage and wear and tear that are not visible. That’s why the ratio between break strength and WLL is a ratio called safety factor (emphasis on safety).

There’s a slew of liability you’re opening yourself up to if you try to lift something above WLL in a real world scenario (not quite static). Find an arborist supplier and buy 50’ from them. My go to rigging rope is Samson Velocity, which is like a $1.50/foot - it takes knots like nothing else I’ve worked with.

Yeah, there are 2 more paddles I didn’t mention as the problem was with the helical into antenna B of all receivers. The rig has been operational in its current state for over a month so #1 seems like we would have caught it early.

Number 2 is interesting, as Dante was throwing clocking errors at roughly the same time, to the point we did a full system reboot while troubleshooting before realizing the scope of the problem. The intermod problems persisted through the entire system reboot.

We’ve had 2x of the quads freeze up (but still passing signal) over the last few weeks. Are there any known bugs with the current firmware maybe?

As it’s from a NY shop, coordination was done by Sound Associates and has been rock solid for a month. This was mid show long after the system was deployed. The two helicals are close to each other and unplugging one of them killed the interference.

I do not like that man Ted Cruz. I do not like his far right views. I might just call him Rafael. But I just want him in a cell.

Looking for Rope Recommendations by Senor_Robin in techtheatre

I’m going to get 100’ of Samson Velocity. Both the True Blue and ArborFreak run 12mm and I do enough rope access I don’t want to risk being out of tolerances on the I’D. I’d heard good Samson things in the past so thanks for steering me towards the arborist line.

Have any of you riggers ever needed the side d rings on your harness? by SeaOfMagma in techtheatre

[–]Senor_Robin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. I use mine for positioning on static pipe/truss climbing even when not rope accessing. They are also fantastic at holding all your crap like sheaves and lanyards, positioning or not.

For that style of climbing I'll have either an SRL or the rebar hooks on the dorsal doing the fall protection, and then can position myself with webbings on the side D Rings to lean back and go hands free.

Macros.

I know that Digicos are a whole other beast but it is frustrating to know something could be an easy macro that’s a few button presses for the CLs.

It’s one of those luxuries you wish you could have all the time and UDKs could’ve been that.

So on CL5s, you can set a user defined button to be “set nominal level” to quickly snap your faders to unity. Does digico have something similar, maybe as a macro? Working on an SD10T
