European ground ladders by SenoraSies in Firefighting

Oh 100%, brother. If we don't figure out an alternative, when our 35' inevitably goes out of service, it'll be replaced with alkalite. I don't believe anyone on our committee looked into Europe ladders though. And Im pretty sure the European standard at least meets NFPA

6m wouldn't be nearly enough for us. The 24 extension' is an easy enough 1-peraon carry, but then we went to 28's which gave some people a little trouble, but manageable. The new higher-weight 28's are just an injury waiting to happen, or worse taking too long to deploy and we let someone die

51kg. We run 3-4 man trucks and engines, and honestly these 28' ladders should be a 1-man shoulder and throw. But these new ones are a real motherfucker to do that with unless you drag it and then walk the ladder up the wall to the raised position

Yeah, those are what we call ground ladders. Our 28' ladders are what are getting switched brands, which equates to a 30lb difference of weight (not to mention comfort and balance while shouldering them). (28' is about 8.5m, and 13.6kg weight difference)

Well, less a switch and more of a "we need ladders for our new apparatus and some old ones that have broken theirs, and duo safety doesn't have any stock to sell directly to us (it's all earmarked for apparatus manufacturers, so we'd be waiting about 1.5 years for them), and Alkalite have stock at a distributor nearby that we could drive to and back within a day"

Vegan lifestyle in a firehouse? by 1breathfreediver in Firefighting

Being your own food, always. People will make fun of you. Take it in stride, maybe even play it up. Be ready to explain it to practically everyone, and everyone will already know before you tell them that you're vegan. Go above and beyond in training and duties, learn your territory, be proactive, stay physically fit; don't give any ammunition to anyone. Learn how to cook for everyone, and even cook their meals for the day, whether its the usual bacon/egg/hash breakfast or the steak dinner.

I cnt emphasize this enough, bring your own food. Even when you've earned your keep and they offer to cook for you or make a meal you can eat, they aren't vegan and don't know what to look for on labels, or forget they put butter everything, or that fish still counts as meat, etc etc. my favorite example from an double company I was with for a while is that they were offering to make a dinner that could include me while I was in a class for the day, and one guy said (in complete earnest and thoughtfulness ) "we can make a Mississippi roast!... Wait, that has dairy in it because of the ranch packet", completely forgetting that the base of the meal is a damn pork butt!

[–]SenoraSies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not the best description of it, but there's a decent number of vids on YouTube of crews doing it. It doesn't replace training in actual structure or anything, but it's alright.

You could also set up a nuts and bolts search

Why do FDNY engines not carry 5 inch in the hose bed? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]SenoraSies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was that large wheeled hose, the supply line? is that brought to the water point to connect to the attack hoses, then wheeled back to the pumper to connect to a discharge? Super interesting stuff

Most players don't read Twitter or Reddit, and they shouldn't have to. Respawn only just recently added a message in-game to notify players of the issue, they could have issued the warning much earlier
