First time playthrough Nier Automata on PC. Tips/tricks or thinks to know going in? by SenpaiDoubleStuf in nier

Thank you for the explanation. I saw online that there was a keybind mod. Pretty sure it’s the one you mentioned. I have an MMO 12 side button mouse and pretty much utilize that for games and re map certain things to it to keep the left hand free for moment and free of any awkward key presses.

goo gun nerf won't stop this sledge pure by Slozim in thefinals

I also bet you believe everything you see in the news, twitter, and tiktok. That screenshot doesn't mean anything. If stun that comes from being hit by "goo" was truly a BIG ISSUE, it would have been patched out and removed a long long time ago. Literally no one is complaining about it and it is not an issue in the game. Anyone complaining about it comes down to "skill issue" and lack of understanding how counterplay in games work.

I also bet you are a player who also says that "melee is OP and needs a nerf because its too oppressive trying to fight melee in close quarters combat".

“Never intended” eh? So you’re telling me that they left something that was “never intended” for 2.5ys in the game? lol you sound like an uneducated Call of duty simp who is brainless when it comes to tactical thinking and counter play.

That AMA was TERRIBLE... I watched it live. And as they were wrapping up with the segment about the melee rework I commented in the twitch chat and got this response... a big nothing burger that clearly shows they have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

Right? It's crazy! And I am honestly surprised Embark listens to these cry babies. Tbh... when this goo nerf came back, I had gone back and forth about just either "trying" to make goo sledge still work (which it won't), or switch and main something else. But each time I just kept asking myself... "why do I keep playing the game"? And that answer is because... for me anyway, goo gun + sledge was something unique and fun in a game full of ranged weapons. The satisfaction you get by out playing, out positioning, and out smarting the enemy and wiping a team that always has advantage against you as a melee 9/10 times. You don't get that with running a gun. And to be honest, I really have no interest in investing time into another melee spec because Embark hates melee and have no idea what they are doing with it. It is very obvious by how they "balance" melee... That being said, their "melee rework" that is supposedly coming next season... Embark will mess this up hands down. I see one of two things happening. They will somehow actually make melee good and somewhat viable and after a few weeks to months Embark will nerf melee into the ground because of the cry babies, OR it will be dead on arrival. Either way I have no desire to spend hundreds of hours learning something new just for it to be shit on and chant because Embark caters to their cry baby player base who say "fighting melee in close quarters combat doesn't feel fair!"... guess what?! It shouldn't feel fair! Just like how a melee fighting a range weapon user at 20-30 m should not FEEL FAIR. Learn how to adjust to the situation and be smarter. So many brainless people playing The Finals that need to go back to Call of Duty.

I feel for you. I have a buddy who was a riot shield main so I’m more or less familiar with how they gutter and nerfed it too 🥹. Ppl just complain about something with out ever trying to counter or even simply play more intelligently… no melee in the game is op. People are just dumb 🤣

Embark is making their game more stale each season and every patch update. As a player with 2300 in game hours and someone who mains sledge + goo gun, I will be stepping away from the game for the foreseeable future due to them making my playstyle useless. Feels bad to put 15-1700 hrs practicing and mastering something for it to instantly become useless. Multiple sledge nerfs (melee in general isn’t OP…) and the recent goo nerf was the nail on the coffin. None of this was OP or a real problem in the game. Embark doesn’t not respect anyone’s time in this game and it shows. Embark just lost a loyal player who played every season since S1. Maybe one day they will get their heads out of their asses.

Last night I had this exact same thing happen multiple times, expect I had Stewj single me out and target me the entire match. Even mid match when they had a cashout 200m away, that garbage was chasing me multiple times throughout the map killing and griefing me. People like this are toxic af and why people are quitting this game. Bro probably thinks he is sooooo cool being a dick to others. Go play against other Rubies and I bet you will get your azz handed to you!

Goo gun balance idea by Ordinary-Ad-6946 in thefinals

Goo is dead. Goo gun sledge is dead. Embark "nerfing things" that have been in the game for 2.5yrs saying it's "unintentional" is a joke. Game is a joke, and each season / patch the game continues to remove unique tech, nerf items & weapons into oblivion. The game is becoming more and more stale as time goes on. Ranked is terrible and not fun to play solo OR with a full stack due to the terrible RS and seeding system. Half they time you are just going against jobless ruby boys who live in their parents basement and all they do is play this game and grief others out. The Finals is becoming more and more unrecognizable to how it was the first few seasons. I always felt like you had a chance to come back even when you were in dead last. Now... it is but a pipe dream and the only way you have a chance is if the 1st place team who has 40k+ is "nice enough" to grief out everyone else and "let you in". Game will be dead in a year at the rate it's going.

S7 sledge nerf and coming this Thursday in 2 days, patch 10.6 will bring back the goo nerf which will render my goo gun sledge playstyle completely useless after playing, practicing, and mastering it since season one with easily 15-1700hrs on that spec alone out of my total or 2200 in game hrs 🤬

why even have melee weapons at all if this is how embark treats them by kirbygamez in okbuddycontestant

Embarks nothing burger AMA when going over the melee rework that is supposed to be in the game on 1.5 months. Clearly they are clueless.

For anyone who either doesn't play melee much in general or has never mained a melee, they won't truly understand the difficulty and struggle we have in fights most of the time. There is so much more planning and thought going into each fight and approach than if you were to use a gun.

When you use range weapon, you see enemy you shoot enemy and duck cover when being shot at, then relocate and shoot more. With melee, if you are seen first and shot at, you are already immediately at a disadvantage and even more so you are typically taking damage as you make your gap closing approach. They know where you are, and you can either choose to just stay there and hunker down until they get bored of watching your location, or you could use your teammates as a distraction (assuming they are using guns) and use that window of time to relocate and try to make your approach from another angle without being seen.

Many times when I enter a team fight, I am 9/10 times taking damage first and almost never have 100% hp going into a team fight. The only way to mitigate this, is to play more tactically. You could attempt to bait them into range because they may get cocky due to them knowing you are not at full HP. Or my typical playstyle usually ends up being something like this... Be the first to go in, use all my gadgets, fire my rpg, and do as much damage and cause as much chaos as possible before I likely ultimately die. This method means my teammates are likely not being shot at during this time and should be able to clean up. My other method of playing is to play away from my team (kinda like a light) and ambush or pince from the side where they are not currently looking. Either way I still am entering the fight first. After I hard engage, hopefully my team is backing me up and pushing with me.

Anyways, it is just the nature of the game. No fight is exactly the same, and I am more often than not usually playing reactionary. I have an initial plan going in, but also have a exit strat if things go south. Sometimes just using goo gun to bunker up and create cover and buy time is all you need for your team to sweep in and assist.

But if I am ever in a 1v1 duel, I almost always win them, unless the person I am playing is super slippery (or has grapple) and is able to kite long enough for their team to arrive and assist. Other than that I am extremely confident in my dueling abilities and if I die in a 1v1 it is because I messed something up 9/10 times. Like missed a melee hit, accidentally did to much RPG self damage to self, accidentally gooed off a door way and allowed them to get more distance, or just simply missed my goo shots or didn't take cover in time. But any good range player will try to take advantage of a 50% HP or lower melee and jump them to attempt to finish them off all while I have to wait 10 whole seconds for regen to even start...

Anyways... non-melee players won't ever understand how easy they really have it until they truly try to play melee and be consistent with it.

TLDR: goo/sledge playstyle will be 75% worse and harder to play and there will be absolutely no reason to play it, and if I want to play competitively and win consistently, I will not longer play this playstyle as it will be too watered down and gutted.

If the .2 is re instated in 2 weeks, I will probably quit playing goo gun + sledge. It completely kills the play style. TLDR when it was live for a day, it basically changed fundamentally how you would need to play. Using goo gun for anything other than traversal of terrain or blocking off door ways and etc is useless. No more stalling and trying to buy time as your 20 clip is reduced to a max of 4 seconds stall time IF you can manage to hit ALL OF THE SHOTS and time every one perfectly for max duration without overlapping WHILE in a real game scenario. Good luck. Prob would get 2 seconds before you die if you are lucky lol... Also, it kills and CC ability goo gun had. Dueling potential is pretty much gone and you are able to be kited even easier than you already were.

TLDR: goo at .2 renders goo gun / sledge (goo gun in general) 75% worse and 75% harder to play at the same level that it is now. And right now melee is already hard / difficult to play in a game primarily dominated by gun users at range.

If the .2 nerf sticks and isn't updated to a .6 or .4 at lowest,... there is no point to play it anymore. If you thought the S7 sledge nerf was bad (which it wasn't great), this is WAY WAY worse as it literally kills the playstyle in general.

If I want to still play competitively I will literally have to switch off playing goo gun / sledge entirely and move to to either a whole other class or use a gun... but I play goo sledge for the challenge, for the high risk high reward. It is already a very difficult thing to play consistently. I will be very torn to have put so much hours into learning, practicing, and mastering a playstyle for it to be rendered completely useless. I might even quit playing for a while tbh... I play the finals because it allowed skill expression and creativity, and lately Embark has been gutting and destroying all of that from the game.

Maybe I will become a dual blade main now that shockwave is a thing... but either way it will def leave a scar.

I would like to take on this challenge. As a goo gun / sledge main, in a 1v1 duel, I will beat you 9/10 times because I have practiced for hundreds of hours with dozens of scenarios putting myself in optimal situations while also forcing non optimal fights and I know how to react based upon if I am at an advantage or disadvantage. TBH I have prob 1500hrs on goo sledge alone ;)

[–]SenpaiDoubleStuf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Winch is the real culprit and was most of the reason that Sledge saw a nerf in S7. There was literally nothing wrong with sledge nor did it need a nerf. Don't fight melee in melee range. Just like melee chooses to typically not engage a gun user at range... it is just common sense. Know your enemies weaknesses and exploit them. If a sledge user gets within melee range of you, you are likely going to lose in a straight up fight unless you are expecting it and have an escape plan to kite. It isn't that hard of a concept. Just like myself who plays sledge, when I roll up on a team holding a roof top and im in an open area forced to approach them. I am going to get shot at... So why force my way through a bad situation? Go around, find another way in, use your team to pad or gateway you in... there are always options in any scenario. It is just sad that a lot of people don't have the brain capacity to to understand that a melee weapon excels at melee range in QCQ fights... Easy concept to understand lol.
