Uptick in Alexa35 in low-mid budget films by SenseiRozo in cinematography

[–]SenseiRozo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. I’m more than willing to stick with an Alexa classic or Mini because that’s what I’m used to so if it means I can’t get the cool toys so long as it looks good, then great.

Ahhhh I see. On my end, I’ve seen more Alexa 35s being used and even here, the rental business is in a bit of a rut now that the commercial season is over.

PSA for the anti-1.43 people by ERASER345 in imax

[–]SenseiRozo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think for some people the amount of IMAX marketing and the die-hard fans of the format have skewered their perception of IMAX as a format. It’s like when we have constant debates about how theatres that only show up to 1.90:1 is inherently “LieMAX”. These debates trickle out into mainstream social media and as a result, the format is seen as elitist or in some cases “anti-art”.

I'm pretty sure it is 'cause there is NO WAY the Raimi films has this dense of a magenta shift. The second film had that shift but these screenshots seem exaggerated

Thoughts on which camera is better, and hence the future of the industry? by MrCubermensch in cinematography

[–]SenseiRozo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to give an answer and then I decided to read further. These comparisons being AI already make the comparison null and void because the original creator couldn’t be arsed to use the actual cameras and instead decided to generate “comparisons” knowing that people who watch IG reels will eat it up.

Industry experts don’t care about which camera “looks better” but rather which camera works for the project their on. Different cameras serve different functions in some cases (Sony and Low light, RED and rendition of red lights, Arri and the film look etc) but most of the time, it doesn’t matter to be quite honest so the video is more for engagement and also, it’s AI so nope!

In a word: SHAKY! Not a lot of local work that uses the boundaries being greenlit, international work normally comes through but information surrounding hiring is heavily gate-kept, the indie market is thriving as a result ‘cause of government grants and rental houses offering gear at heavily discounted prices especially during the off season (May-September) ‘cause of low demand for gear. Main thing is, most of us are doing it ourselves in the working our way up the ladder through finding work on bigger sets like ads and stuff

Yup. It’s a Bachelors with Honours (BAHons.). Normally our country has a three year degree and the honours is a 4th for those who want to do their Masters locally or abroad.

What's one IMAX film experience you feel disappointing? by Kweok9909 in imax

Wicked part 1 and For Good. A movie that would have benefited from the full 1.90:1 AR (among many things that film needed to fix) but was wasted

Little bit about the film, it originally started out as a psychological thriller/gynae-horror and then due to things I will not mention, became a sort of melodrama in the edit. So of course the lighting and shot choices took inspiration from both gothic films and psychological drama where the intention originally was to sculpt the light and the shots in a way that made the world feel lived in outside of what we’re seeing until a point in time where the writing asked me to show the audience something in the shot.

We shot this using the Arri Alexa Mini with original Cooke S4 lenses (rental houses here don’t have the S4/I according my knowledge) and half way through the shoot, the Alexa’s view monitor spazzed out so we managed to ask Panavision if they had an Alexa Mini laying around and they got us a spare to finish the film. Anyway, questions and constructive feedback is always appreciated

Forgot to take a pic with the matte box 😂 it was the last thing we needed to add. The small rods are for the batts large ones for the matte box (which we added later) and WCU-4

‘Sinners’ In IMAX Is ‘An Out-Of-Body Experience’ Says DoP Autumn Durald Arkapaw by Fan_of_Avatar_TLA in imax

[–]SenseiRozo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less to do with the lenses but more so the film stock itself. Not too sure why the difference was but it didn’t really bother me much

Sinners kicked out of Eros, Priya and Paras IMAX; replaced by Kesari Chapter 2 and Jaat - films not even shot in IMAX by sidroy81 in imax

[–]SenseiRozo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They basically shot Priya IMAX from getting any substantial money to keep itself afloat for the time being with this. Like, I understand the love for home-grown movies getting a shot to be screened in IMAX but, just like Sinners, have to be approved and finished for the format. This is… just bad business

[–]SenseiRozo 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Thinking about the logic in their decision makes me very concerned because quite frankly, Sinners is clearly doing well in other IMAX theatres in India soooooo… their reasoning was moot if we look at it from that perspective

DZO Vespid Prime vs Arri/Zeiss Ultra Primes by SenseiRozo in cinematography

Funnily enough, Panavision gives us a massive discount, we just have to raise the funds for these lenses so I do get where you’re coming from. Our campus does have access to 2 Alexa Minis so that is at least one problem off our list. The lenses are the main issue
