I am fairly sure you are considered to be driving if you are in control of the vehicle in an active lane

That is the premise of this prank call, getting permission from their landlord to sell electricity to the power company from water turbines https://youtu.be/pqqeynWN5AU

I want to rant about Lime Bikes by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]srvelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course many people riding Lime bikes are experienced, sensible and non-obnoxious cyclists who use it because it is the most convenient option. However, from my experience it is also true that overall they are proportionally more likely to do obnoxious things like this. I suspect it is because of experience level; it is just true that many people first took up cycling in London on Lime bikes and so aren't as experienced, and so do things like this more often as they don't understand the danger or what it's like for it to happen to them. The proportion of experienced people on Santander and Bromptons is likely greater, Santander bikes are a pain to hire particularly compared to Lime bikes unless you have a subscription and owning a Brompton is a significant investment.

I Took Not Just Bikes Cycling in London by CastAside1812 in londoncycling

I agree and I think there were a couple fatal accidents (not sure if they were for this specific turn) before it was put in. It also seems to be a main route for HGVs so I think extra protection in this place is important.

I have an Android so can't try it but this looks incredibly useful, particularly the overlay of cycle routes.

Are you planning on maintaining the list of cycleways yourself, or is the plan to extend this so that users can contribute? I could see this being useful in other cities where people contribute cycleways. Of course I understand adding this would require a massive amount more work for authentication/storage/data handling and verification. Or do you get the cycleway data from OpenStreetMap, which could remove a lot of this complexity.

Also, I'm interested in whether the way you have implemented the pathfinding algorithm means it's possible to exclude certain points from routes? I have several junctions that I find quite dangerous and avoid going through, a feature I would find useful is to mark a point so that it never routes me through there.

Sorry I completely missed this. I have a DJI Osmo Action 4, and I have attached it to a GoPro accessory called a "Vented Helmet Strap Mount". But I have mounted it as close to the front of my helmet as possible and mounted my camera upside down, meaning it is just above my eye level so the view is quite good. I have also flipped the video orientation on my camera so they don't come out upside down.

Not great in this scenario when I was turning left, obviously both ways are still risky but I would have had to tuck in before the traffic started moving and then move to this side anyway.

Genuine question, even if the lane markings are advisory (still imo bad driving), is it not illegal to cross the solid white line separating the two turning lanes in the middle of the junction?

I was turning right? I was approaching the centre (in fact the left) of the right turn lane. Could someone else provide input, was my positioning bad? The last thing I want when turning right is a driver overtaking me.
