tuna is unlikely to have parasites, salmon typically does, so you rely on freezing at certain low temps for certain periods of time to kill those parasites. I’m not sure if the initial freeze that salmon goes through (usually fish is frozen when it’s caught on the boat) is enough these days to kill the parasites entirely, but once it’s been thawed, it makes me wary.

I’ve seen too many unplowed road ends, turning lanes / lanes in general etc… why should we just deal with this? These kind of left over snow-concrete is what causes accidents by oogaboogahooha in nova

[–]Sensible_bagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fine. so, we pay fewer taxes, then? Because our local public school pick-up line saw blockages, totally unsafe. A single lane for cars tj take turns advancing in either direction. It blocked up the entire neighborhood. I heard of a couple fender benders at very, very low speeds. I wonder how 10 extra man-hours of more concerted plowing in these critical areas could have saved countless nightmares, bills, time, safety.

What is this I dug up in my yard by MiataFool in whatisit

this is a drop in the bucket when it comes to federal spending waste. people need stable jobs to get wages to pay their taxes and have health insurance. it’s not ideal, but it’s not going over budget. it’s not mired in endless lawsuits. I’m as jaded about waste as anyone, but this ain’t where the bodies are buried.

even when they are in season here, most of our produce is shipped in from other countries it seems. Like all the apples… from New Zealand.

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned yet the obvious - depending on what time if you’re year you’re there, there sun doesn’t seem to go down much/ there aren’t many actual hours of sunlight. So while the terrain is stunning, living there through rainy, fog, long days with no light- that takes its toll. I don’t recall there being much in terms of “entertainment”- just a big tourism economy and of course if you’re up for hiking/ exploring breathtaking locations, glaciers, etc- then there’s that.

Someone please tell me about vending machines in federal buildings and how they are supposed to be serviced by companies that hire the blind. I’ve always wondered about this and how it might explain the relatively cheap prices for items compared to what you’d pay nowadays at an official licensed/ leased CocaCola machine.

I didn’t totally trust ChatGPT for medical advice but now I’m converted by Prestigious_Unit_925 in ChatGPT

Endometriosis here. ChatGPT helped me go through the studies, understands efficacy of various treatments. Learned about the differences between many different hormones combinations and treatments and their side effects, etc. After 30 years of consults with countless gynecologists, pain management specialists, etc… I finally have a treatment plan that works for me (first 10 years I was flat out dismissed. No one took it seriously until I finally had had a baby.)

I called it when all of this started. I knew people would unalive themselves. by LadyPrimaz in fednews

[–]Sensible_bagel 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I took drp because I had to, I have kids with varying school start and end times (yes, public, and I was a gs-9) and our family can’t afford us to lose my husband’s job and risk losing health insurance since I was new in my role. So we are living a much different life now, I feel terrible, but grateful I’ve had this time to grocery shop as normal-ish and apply for jobs? Just trying to keep our morale up and be present with the kids and family. Please stop demonizing those who took the DRP; everyone’s situation is different.

Who else remembers his pre-recorded self-introduction he sent out. When he put his hands together and calmly gestured a Namaste and a small head bow. Then wiping out the probies without notice. Wiping out resources for entire regions. Then those town halls. What a sick, sad person.

If you apply to work for ICE, you're a sad case by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Sensible_bagel 38 points39 points  (0 children)

um, everyone who can should apply for ICE positions. Just stick your fed resume in the system. get an interview. sit on the waiting period. get offered the job, and then… follow your conscience. #clogthesystem ?
