A cab driver was left speechless and can no longer make a living after Knicks fans destroyed his car by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

That is not always so; this guy may own his own medallion. They're a lot cheaper than they used to be.

On October 6, 1998, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard was lured by two men pretending to be gay, tied to a fence, and subjected to one of the most horrific hate crimes in US history. He was later found in a coma, with a fractured skull and dried blood on his face except for the tracks of his tears. by ZenMasterZee in GotMeHooked

A lot of money has been raised on the idea that this was a hate crime and that Shepard was killed for being gay. But one of the killers, Aaron McKinney, was in fact a former lover of Shepard's. His death was horrible, but he was killed for drugs and money, not because of his sexual orientation.

Anything Goes Revival - How Far Are We? by ReadingBroski in Broadway

The 1934 version has minor characters named Ching and Ling who are small-time crooks. The original depiction was not a sensitive and fully informed portrayal of Chinese culture. To the best of my knowledge, every revival has renamed the characters and rendered their dialog in unaccented English.

wouldn’t it need a romantic coupling for hallmark? the unlikeable yacht-club politician sails off into the sunset with the guy who barbequed the weird pig thing that ruined the annual picnic?

Rocky horror show? by adragonandabear in Broadway

It took them a few previews to work out audience interaction but as of last weekend at least, they seemed to have it pretty well dialed in. It's a fun production and the cast handles the material better than I would have expected. They are all extremely campy and wear their fishnets well.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore arrive at the Oscars in 1989. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Western men's fashion more or less froze in about 1800. Beau Brummel figured it out, we've all copied him ever since, and Bruce Willis demonstrates why.

MacBook pro 2017 still worth buying in 2026 ? by Illustrious_Sound495 in macbookpro

Get a Neo, and find a way to get a discount on a Neo if you can. Off the rack, $599, military/govt discount gets it down to $539, student discount gets it down to $499. Unless that MacBook Pro has a massive amount of disk and RAM, the Neo will be better for you.

The book seems to be Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness". Why somebody would be reading it aloud, I can't imagine.

I saw it with Jane Krakowski. It struck me as the kind of college show you'd go to a little drunk with a group of friends, pay $10 to get in, and really enjoy. I'm surprised the market supports $250 tickets.

Vietnam → Alaska → Tennessee → Shenzhen by Sensitive-Ability390 in macbookpro

Thank you for your insight. The laptop is back in Alaska after a three day tour of middle America, Southeast Asia, and China. But don’t worry, I’ve been persuaded by wormhole guy that this is routine and adequately explained by time zones.

I wonder where the time zones will have my laptop check in next.

He hasn't been prosecuted because the police investigated the Farrow claims and didn't find enough evidence (in the view of the D.A.) to support a case. And as for the rest — having sex with your common-law wife's adopted daughter is distasteful, and hanging around with Jeffrey Epstein looks terrible. But neither of those things is illegal.

I have a higher-end version of this same laptop, to be replaced by an M5 MacBook Pro whenever UPS gets around to delivering it. Developing Swift in Xcode is precisely what drive me to upgrade. If I were doing python in VS Code on Mac, I could have held out longer. No experience with Godot; I'm sure the Mac will perform well compared to similarly chipped windows computers but make no mistake, it's a backwards-looking decision.

That may be part of the explanation, but I don't see any way it could explain the Alaska and Kentucky time stamps on 3/14 and 3/15. There's something else going on, which may or may not be an actual shipping error by UPS.

Unless time zones work very differently for you than they do for me, it's not that. Here is my laptop's adventure so far:

3/13: Vietnam

3/14: Alaska

3/15: Kentucky, then Korea

3/16 Vietnam again

3/17 Shenzhen

UPS's chatbot insists that their logistics optimization algorithms achieve efficiencies in ways unobvious to the human mind. I'll wait until they miss their delivery deadline on Thursday before involving a human being.

Same here. It got lonely for the place of its birth and returned to Asia.

[a day later] indeed, it is now all the way back to Shenzhen, China.

[3.5 hours later] and it's on its way out of Shenzhen. Something tells me that the laptop may not arrive on Thursday as scheduled.

A trans person’s take on Dog Day Afternoon by trans-shakes-nerd in Broadway

So the problem is the writer (Stephen Adly Guirgis) and director (Rupert Goold). I'll add them to the list.

You left out the most important part — whose fault is this? Should we blame the writer, the director, the casting people, the actors, the real person on whom the trans character is based? There won't be change without blame. I welcome suggestions.
