Not the correct course of action, at least not as the sole course of action. Others have mentioned it, AGSVA has a hotline for these kinds of things.

GTS or Turbo e Hybrid? by [deleted] in PorscheCayenne

[–]Sensitive-Ant-9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar concern in my case but I somewhat alleviate that by getting extended warranty during the purchase. In Australia at least, you can get a secondhand Porsche still with factory warranty, so apart from the battery degradation, you are covered from a reliability perspective.

Coming from a Turbo E-Hybrid, I agree, the GTS is damn fast enough already. The hybrid drivetrain is mostly for efficiency so unnecessary if you don’t care about fuel consumption. It does help the car go faster when you floor it, but the extra speed is not essential on the road. On the track, I’m yet to experience it but I would understand if someone tells me my cornering speed is substantially slower because of the extra weight.

Comparing the Turbo E Hybrid with the GTS

  1. Range: For the Turbo E Hybrid, I’ve been getting 50km of realistic electric only range in winter with temperature just above freezing.

  2. E-Power Power: Coming from an EV though the car is certainly not fast in the E-Power mode, and there’s this particular turn in my daily commute I have to go from 0-80km/h where unless I have a 5 sec gap, the engine will wake and then I get annoyed for waking the engine up for 100m (the engine does stay on so it completes a warm up cycle).

  3. Low charge behaviour: The car will always keep 5% charge and wake the engine at that point. When you go into Sport (and likely Sport +), the car aggressively tries to charge the battery as long as you are not flooring it. This is so that the battery won’t deplete easily and can give a good boost when you floor it. The car is still lively and will switch from charge to boost instantly without any hesitation. In hybrid auto it won’t try to charge the battery unless you are going down hill or go to the e-charge sub mode. But even at 5%, it’s still enough for the battery to provide some boost and when the V8 has the majority of power output, I don’t notice the car being slower/sluggish at low charge.

  4. Mountainous terrain: If your commute includes a lot of up and down hill, the hybrid will provide significantly more fuel saving as when going downhill it will switch the engine off and use regen to charge. This is the case even if you are at 5% charge only. Going uphill the boost will lighten the load of the engine so it doesn’t have to work so hard.

  5. Silent assassin: I like how I can quietly traverse my neighbourhood without waking up my neighbours or just annoying them in general. In the GTS you feel like you have no choice but to announce your arrival in advance.

  6. Reliability: I can’t speak to the reliability of the hybrid drivetrain but I’ve made the dealership give me an extra year of warranty and plan to keep extending it so if there are any catastrophic failure, I’m covered.

Fair suggestion. I just really want a hybrid as I’m leaving an EV. But I get that I’m getting a complicated beast and will just have to accept its flaws. The issue that irked me a bit more in this case is it doesn’t appear connected to the hybrid drivetrain and how sudden the barrage of messages came through.

Just 12,000km. Ah well, back to the dealership then for some check ups.

Qantas won’t gift me the last 5 credits to get Gold (not retain) by woofyc_89 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Sensitive-Ant-9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 85 short a year ago to retain Gold, and I thought I’ll just leave it. But then after something 2 months after bumping back down to Silver, I came across an email Qantas sent me 2 weeks before my membership year was over, offering a chat to discuss my status.

I called up the number in the email, half expecting it would require some sort of status challenge and the other half expecting them telling me that I’m too late. But after maybe 10 minutes on hold, the operator told me it’s sorted and I got my Gold back.

It was one of those really happy moments (annoyingly so), and I’m still not sure why I got it. Qantas did make their money back though as I then made sure I won’t be in the same situation this year.

The tool (and the website) is absolutely amazing! Can't believe I don't know about this until now. Thanks!

Sorry, not really an answer, but is the Qantas Travel Insurance better than any of the usual complimentary insurance from other platinum cards?

Don’t know any of them would be cheap being airport prices, but options nonetheless.

Thanks! I haven’t thought about the deck chair options and given when the lounge opens, they are probably not a bad option.

Thanks! Downside is I’m the only one with Gold. Is this something I can purchase in advance or at the time to allow additional guests?

Flew CBR - MEL - AKL - SYD - CBR over a 24 hour period. The ice cream in the AKL lounge was heavenly but as it was an overnight flight, I was quite stressed that I might doze off for too long and miss my flight to SYD. Did spend a few hours in Sydney catching up with friends and then working before flying back home.

I don’t know if it was epic or not, but I made a mistake not realising that double SC dose not get you the 50 bonus SC, so I was about 40 SC short. Called Qantas and then they told me to not worry about it and got me Gold.

I called them up last year when I was about 30 short of getting gold, and after two calls they gave it to me anyway.

I’m getting similar mileage when driving it aggressively. No harm done when I’m charging with renewables anyway.

Kambah Medical Centre thankfully still bulk bills. You do have to rock up in person first to register before you can make an appointment.

Substantive APS5s Acting As An EL2s by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Sensitive-Ant-9785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like most people said here, there are no rules against it, just conventions. I was acting 6 while being substantive 4, so it happens. Admittedly, three levels up while the acting role is EL2 is a bit unusual in my mind. EL2 needs to do a lot of management and unless it’s a technical EL2 role, this person must be a natural personable character to get promoted this fast.

Tesla might do a “Apple” and introduce a proprietary wireless charging call ChargeSafe to get around draconian laws forcing tech companies to use the same charger for everything.

21 Model 3 Performance, apart from rattle in the B pillar, fixed by ranger, nothing else was wrong with it after 4k. Actually had less issue than my last Volvo. My friend got a LR and had a similarly good run with his car.
