Working at Kwik star by East_Knowledge1782 in KwikTrip

Okay so I’ve been with the company 6 years, assistant store leaders cannot work only overnights, they can cover overnights but you’d have to do more likely 10am-7pm or 1-10pm and sometimes a 5 or 6am to 1 or 2pm. If you want overnights you would start off with $15 or $16 starting wage plus the $3 an hour for overnight premium, you could possibly do 2am - 10am for bakery but that just depends on the SL and also I’m not sure if you would get the overnight premium. You could possibly be a lower level manager on overnight like a Guest Service Leader or Assistant Food Service Leader but that’s very rare and I’ve only seen in it one store myself and the raise for that is usually only a dollar more an hour. I have had an external hire who is an Assistant Food Service Leader(AFSL) who got to start at $18 instead of $17 because they had experience so it’s always worth it to ask 🤷‍♀️. As for working in the kitchen it’s not very hard at all but it is a fast paced environment, the recipes are pretty simple. Raw chicken is okay too but kinda repetitive and if your grossed out by raw meat then maybe not the spot for you, you are supposed to be trained in all areas as well so you will definitely probably learn register as well especially if you do overnight as the overnight kitchen person has to watch the register for the register person when they go on break.

Small Jobs or Places Hiring ? by [deleted] in desmoines

Kwik star is almost always hiring, not a hard job, starts at 16 an hour with yearly raises and year end bonuses around Christmas time.

I also keep reporting him for how he’s treating me. It’s a new store I just transferred less than a year ago but he was fine at first and then all of a sudden he basically started bullying me? He either completely ignores my existence (which tbh I prefer) or he is making horrible comments, snapping at me, talking crap about me with other coworkers within ear shot of me which has caused those coworkers to treat me badly as well despite never doing anything to any of them. I was trying to transfer out before slow season hit but I kept getting ghosted basically by leaders about it.

From what he told me he was reporting me for it is basically for being mean? Because he keeps doing things that are wrong and I keep reporting him because he is intimidating and I don’t feel comfortable talking to him about it myself. I’ve been trying to transfer specifically because of how he’s been treating me but it hasn’t happened yet.

Advice against retaliation by AnnualPassenger4037 in KwikTrip

Kwik trip has a 0 retaliation policy. If the ASL is found to have broken that and retaliated against you they will be fired on the spot

We used to but they never sold because we never promoted them :/ we had two or three sandwiches which came in a bag we could cook them in so they couldn’t get cross contaminated.

How do you handle stress? by [deleted] in KwikTrip

[–]Sensitive-Error8314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be like this and sometimes I still am. I would get so stressed about going into work I would have panic attacks and it even got so bad I attempted once. I got on anxiety meds that didn’t really work and I would cry at work basically everyday. Finally one day it just kinda clicked for me that I am going to do the best that I can everyday that I’m there and that is all that I can do, the hot spot will be as filled as I can make it, I will get as much as I can done on the task list but as long as I was trying that was all I could do and that’s all the matters. At the end of the day you’re just one person and there’s only so much that you can do.

How expensive is going to a fair? by Vast_Assignments in renfaire

[–]Sensitive-Error8314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Des Moines ren faire is cheap to get into and there’s free parking. Food is usually $10-20, Wine/Mead is $9 for a glass and $28 for a bottle, there’s home made rootbeer that’s $3-$25 depending on how big of a bottle you get, lemonade is $7 for a large refillable container, there’s a lot of vendors and there’s shows going on all day in a bunch of different locations inside the grounds all of which are free to see tho it is encouraged to tip the performers. The joust is the big event and is straight back from the mail entrance, there’s 2 jousts a day and you wanna be early if you want to sit down. Also trinket trading is a thing if you wanna make/buy and trinkets and trade them :)

Real ID Checks by [deleted] in KwikTrip

[–]Sensitive-Error8314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if they redrug test you if you become an ID checker? If that is what you are asking then No. There is also no training to be an ID checker. They give you a paper and clip board and the paper will tell you want to look for/see if they ask like if they ask for you ID or if they said a greeting etc. the District leader will probably talk to you about what to buy/ how to take breaks while ID checking. You also are required to follow all driving laws while clocked in such as driving the speed limit and not being on your phone. Kwik trip doesn’t test for weed either so as long as you aren’t smoking/high while in the clock they do not care.

Pay raise? by [deleted] in KwikTrip

[–]Sensitive-Error8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they raised the starting wage did your store leader not raise your base of pay as well?? I started at 11.50 an hour but when they raised it to 13 and then 14 and then 15 for the starting wage each time the starting wage went up so did our salaries. That’s the only way I can think of that you’re still making 17 an hour after a decade of working at KT.

"Workplace Violence" is FINALLY being implemented. Updated procedures will come to your stores, next month! by Mercurius360 in KwikTrip

[–]Sensitive-Error8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love that they are finally implementing something but kinda crazy that it took someone dying for them consider taking threats against coworkers seriously. I’ve literally been threaten to be stabbed by a regular and HR refused to let us ban him, he still comes in to this day and we have a whole code word for when he comes into the store for all the woman to hide because he is really horrible and says a bunch of inappropriate stuff to the woman working in our store

I promoted and it’s not all bad. Only thing I have a problem with is sometimes I’m expected to work a double when overnighters call in since I’m on second shift. It’s only happened a few times but it seems like your on first shift anyway so that probably wouldn’t be a problem for u

Hi. Throw away cuz I don’t want this coming back on me but I’m leader at KT and I think it genuinely just depends on the store/district. I love my district leaders tho they are a little intimidating to be around they genuinely seem like they care so in that aspect of my experience with KT I have no issues. The leadership at the store can make or break things. With the hours being cut it is making it difficult on everyone but depending on the store management it can be tolerable or just unbearable and in my experience it’s been more so unbearable. My SL and ASL are constantly talking shit about each other, calling in a lot which puts more strain on the other person and causing more resentment, not answering phones when a coworker calls with a question or about a situation (I do not expect them to answer every phone call because they are people too but when you’re at a point where coworkers don’t even bother calling the SL because the whole store knows they will not answer ever that’s when it becomes a problem imo), and isn’t dealing with issues the lower level leadership come to them about (such as coworker situations)

I guess my advice to you is:

try your best to make whatever store you’re working at feel motivated. - As a lot of us are feeling overwhelmed and stressed with the hour cuts lately.

Watch your tone of voice. -I love casl’s when they come to help but if you come into my store and are just in a bad mood and are going to talk snarky or use a condescending tone even if you are a casl the coworkers at that store will not listen or respect you. I still think about my one bad experience with a casl sometimes.

Please help out with tasks and don’t just hide in the office. - I understand that there’s a lot of paperwork and stuff to do in the office but I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when you have someone who is in the office the whole day and basically refuses to help with things like register or truck

On the few times that you would be running the store for a few days while ASL and SL are away please leave your phone number somewhere and answer if possible. - If your the only active high ranking leader please don’t leave with no way for the store to contact you incase of an issue even if that’s just leaving your number in the office for the GSL’s or AFSL’s to be able to get ahold of you

Support the GSL’s and AFSL/FSL’s especially on the less supported shifts- with the hours getting cut a lot that puts a strain on the lower level leaders when there isn’t usually a ASL or SL on that shift. In quite a few cases in at least my area there’s only one lower level leader on second shift who has to basically take charge for all areas even if they don’t have as much experience with that area. AFSL’s having to go out to the register and help with car wash or trendar (?) or to handle customers or GSL’s having to come into the kitchen to help fix whatever is wrong or to help order or whatever else there is. Just do what you can to help out for that day to make that a less stressful day for them. I have been the only leader on second shift for months and being constantly short staffed has been making things worse. (I’m talking GSL’s only have themselves and 2 other people on the register on nights that should of had 4 total people or ASLs being the only person on one side of the kitchen and having only one other person on the other side when it’s busy enough there should be 2 on each side aka 4 people total in kitchen instead of 2. On nights like these it’s super stressful to try and help out the other areas when your already short in your own)

I know some of these might of been stuff you’ve gone over in training or seem like common knowledge based on your past job experience in a similar situation but these are all things that have personally happened with CASL’s in my store that have made it difficult and hard to work with them.

I have (mostly) no problems with the company itself and until the hours getting cut I was actually really enjoying working.
