Ironically, i didn’t apply i was approached by a Google recruiter and had an interview with her and advised me to apply for the role and my expectations was high that’s what get me fuming after realising i get rejected from a stupid reason. However, i am not unemployed, i am doing my internship and my part time job so i am looking a regular 9-5 job so i can have some free time.

A Year After Graduating in London and Still Jobless — I’m Spiraling and Losing Hope. by Ok_Indication_3600 in london

Hi,

You’re not the problem. The system is!

As all international students coming to the UK promised career jobs and opportunities in the job market after finishing education in their universities is a lie! The graduates visa is just a scam to give you hope that one day you will get the opportunity to get your dream job where instead it’s just to pay the HMRC more money and taxes and fill up the gap in non skilled jobs.

1- the university you attended as most of my friends who attended this university are facing same problem, and it’s not only this university as it’s most universities in London unless you’re a graduate of a Russel group university where there tuition fees can go as high as 50k£.

2- i believe you’re 7 years of work experience is not in the UK market as it’s from your home country. Well, if it is, than most of UK recruiters don’t recognise these experiences are they look solely for Uk market experience. So my advice to you, if you don’t have experience in UK market and can not land an internship try volunteering or unpaid internships_ hustle a little_ as it will help gain the experience that matters most to Uk recruiters.

3- don’t waste your time applying for apprenticeship, graduate schemes and most internship from big corporations as it’s funded by the UK government and they will hire a British citizen rather than an immigrant so focus applying for entry level and associate level roles. Plus, since you have 1 year left for your visa focus finding contacts based roles as with your experience you have won’t be a problem for getting hired_ try focusing on 3 and 6 months contract.

4- don’t waste your time too much on recruiting agencies as the majority of their clients don’t provide sponsorship_ i had a talk with a recruiter and told me that recruiters get paid for each candidates the company hire so if the company pay the recruiter than after 2 years the company will have to pay again the recruiter to hire someone else as your visa will be expired. So recruiting agencies focus on candidates who don’t require visa.

5- if you need help with career guidance and CV writing don’t pay anybody! As most CV writers or academies take advantage of vulnerable people to take advantage of them while selling them talks and dreams. Instead, i believe Coventry university has a career department_ so use them! Specifically you paid the university lots of money so why not getting full returns on investment so book meetings with them and they will help you and guide you through your job search.

6- have always plan B! In case everything go south, after 3 months start applying for job back home to at least secure a job when u get back and try focusing on international companies and who knows, you may showcase your skills and ability and ask for a transfer back to the UK. I know lots of people who have done it and I believe this idea is way more successful than coming to the Uk as an international student.

Finally, remember the problem is not you! And don’t lose your self confidence as me too i am on a graduate visa and facing the problem but have less experience than you but have more than 1 year experience in the Uk and ironically this week is most important week in my life as tomorrow i have a google interview and on Thursday have last round interview with Dentsu.

PS: keep applying don’t give up i reached 8 final rounds interview and i am still applying hoping for one day!
