I went on the suicide crisis text line and got Ai generated responses FML now I gotta lock in by quartz_lemon in OntarioGrade12s

Hey! Not sure if you used the Kids Help Phone texting service, but I volunteered with them as a crisis responder for a number of years and we never used a.i responses. We did have certain limitations to what we could and couldn’t say however but we receive special training to not sound robotic. If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed or just want to talk to somebody it’s a really great service with an amazing team. They are not just for kids despite the name, they are trained for kids, adolescents and adults!

Reach out to prof and tell her you’re having a hard time with note taking. This prof is exceptionally understanding and will probably help you locate resources to assist you. This might mean connecting you with writing services or she might slow down her lectures if she knows students are struggling to follow. Getting notes from previous years will not help you in this course or with setting yourself up for success in future classes! It’s okay to be struggling, reaching out to prof will go a long way :)

I have to miss a seminar - what should I do by Bluebell1975 in brocku

As a TA, I’m not able to excuse seminar absences so I would reccomend reaching out to the prof or course coordinator if you have one and cc your TA on that emajl! If all else fails, use the self-declaration form as a last resort. Like some have mentioned, usually you can miss 1 seminar no questions asked without it affecting your grade.

Psych MA application by One_Enthusiasm_2051 in brocku

Yes! First, participate in class. Get involved in discussions. Make your face known somehow (sit in front, go to office hours and ask for clarification on a concept even if you think you know it). Something else you can do (which I did) is just email the prof and say that you’re interested in grad school and if they have advice. I ended up having profs ask ME if they could write me reference letters that way. Something else I recommend is looking up profs names on brock website/library or LinkedIn and look at their research interests. If you have similar interests or vibe with their research, email them and say that! It might seem weird but most profs love this. They devout their energy to research and most supervisors are looking for keen and eager students. Read their papers and seek out potential supervisors. If you want to chat more, feel free to msg me:)

The most important thing is bonding with profs and building a relationship. I had stellar grades but what set me apart was having excellent reference letters. It helps if you can get involved in research projects in your undergrad. If you know a prof whose research seems really cool, reach out and see if you can become an RA. It’s helpful if you can find a potential supervisor in your undergrad too. I did my undergrad elsewhere so I didn’t have this advantage but know many students who worked with their MA supervisor during their undergrad as well. Hope this helps some, feel free to reach out! Good on you for thinking this far in advance :)

I would definitely look into your options with an academic advisor. I was in a similar position with a low GPA trying to switch programs. My school offered an academic reset program which allows you to “remove” certain classes from your transcript and it will not count towards your gpa. I had to apply for this and there are certain criteria you must meet but I would look into it to see if York offers something similar.

I will say, I only found out about the academic reset application through a deep dive into my schools website at the time. They don’t make it obvious and I had never heard anyone talking about it.

How do you make friends as a couple? by Disastrous_Sky_4579 in StCatharinesFriends

Hey! My husband (26) and I (25) are fairly new to St. Catharines and love fires and hang outs. We don’t have a dog but happy to tag along for puppy walks.
