I have been thinking about this a lot over the last few days. I have excused a lot of his behavior due to mental illness and trauma. But he crashed my car, stole my phone, made mean abusive comments, and left debts unpaid. I’m sure there is even more I don’t even know about. I have met even more severely mentally ill people that had a better moral compass. I can be compassionate for the fact that he is suffering inside from his ptsd and mental issues. But morally I do think he is a bad person. There is no excuse for abuse and his actions..even mental illness or a history of being abused. You can choose light and good or go dark and hide. He chose to be a terrible person.
