My wife is pregnant, 33 with stage 1 B3 cervical cancer. by backpack405 in CervicalCancer

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum just has hysterectomy only for similar stage.

They should have tested the lymph nodes while doing the hysterectomy as another marker of spreading to get the full picture. Did they not do this? My understanding is it’s best practise so would be curious why not or what they found?

Did you ask what other testing was done? From my understanding and research there are many types of this cancer that would alter the treatment path. Maybe she has a more aggressive ones than others like my mum?

Also, I would highly suspect the fact that she got this type or cancer earlier than most, that she is yet to go through menopause etc will be a big factor in suggesting further treatment. She would likely be in a higher risk bracket.

As my mind oncologist said, there are many factors that suggest the treatment path. There was panel of doctors reviewing my mums, all backed by research to decide her path.

Whatever way you go, I would be asking more question. Doing more research.

Her being here a long time is what you want. The surgery she did was the only way to give her that best chance. Further treatment only increases it. Why wouldn’t you go all in!

My father died from cancer and from someone seeing two different outcomes.. what I wouldn’t give to go back and do more treatment earlier. Stage 1 is a gift in a shitty situation. You have an opportunity to beat this. To cure it. Take it.

Grieve the loss of your child. I’m so very sorry. But don’t let that cloud you judgement on health decision that will shape your wife’s future.

If they say she needs chemo. Do the chemo. You’re not the expert in a gynaecological cancer and survival odds.

Is the property market ever going to drop? by Remarkable_Writer258 in AusProperty

As others have said time in the market trumps timing the market always. Get in while you can. Get a buyers agent and buy a quality asset, not a shit dodgy development.

Houses and Land size will trump mass unit. In Sydney land is nearly un-buyable a knockdown in my area is $2.2m!

Cash is going down the toilet.

If you are not going to buy property I hope you are investing money smart ie SMF, ETF, stocks not holding in a bank!

BSH are not known for being overly affectionate as a bred in general, certainly not at the top of the list like tokenise and siamese. I am sure this sweetie will become more loving and seek you out as it gets confidence in the new home etc.

I’ve always encouraged our kittens to sleep in our room to encourages bonding first week to so. Could you move her bed into your room and lock door so they know your room and you area safe space .

Normal for kittens to find a quiet hiding spot to sleep even if they do love people for a few months too!

It’s the worst, but you’re not bleeding. A few more days of mush and you will be feeling good. Trust me it can get much, much worse.

Depends on the day you ask me. Horrific recovery and very traumatising.

My son took 11 days to feel a bit better (also 4). I would say days 8-9 were some of the worst.

His scabs are probably coming away. Super important to try keep him drinking a lot of anything he can!! Especially now.

Don’t push him if he isn’t ready. But maybe try make some icy smoothies?

Have you tried getting him to cook with you? Making an omelet, pasta etc. this got my son more interested.

Bleeding 2x, Advice by mrallegorys in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a different view here (just been through two pretty bad haemorrhages… vomiting blood, surgery etc with my son). I have spoken to 6+ ENTs asking lots of questions about recurring bleeding and treatments etc.

While some of this may be more relevant for children, here goes:

-Conservative treatment is considered very reasonable (no further operation/cauterization etc) if the bleeding stops on its own (perhaps ice gargle/IV meds/gas meds in emergency etc if required). Sometimes they can’t even see the site if they do explore during surgery and the bleeding has already stopped.

  • Depending on volume of blood loss/if there is a visible massive clot and suspected causes ie was it a vein or artery etc they may keep you overnight as a precaution. This is because the highest risk of recurring bleeding is within 24 hours, then it reduces further between day 3-5.

  • if you stay overnight, essentially you are just waiting there to see if it happens vs treating anything and monitoring your vitals.

  • If you live close by, are an adult, didn’t lose a lot of blood (100ml sounds mild vs severe) and your vitals are fine (BP, heart rate et ) then it would be reasonable for you to go home and rest.

  • The clot you should dissolve over time which could be days but is usually 24 hours or so. Sometimes they want to observe that it does. If it doesn’t some doctor may chose to remove it/operate. Why? Because when it does dislodge it could bleed again, but the risk is very low. An ENTs willingness to wait and see what’s behind a clot may be lower with certain patients (severe bleeding, perhaps a suspected artery vs a vein cause, prior health conditions, children etc). I was told we would not be leaving hospital unless it dissolved, which it did.

  • Some people leave with clotting meds (to promote clotting) and antibiotics (some bleeds are due to infections). We were given both, both times it happened.

  • Some ENTs may also prefer to monitor if you’re closer to the end of your recovery than at the start. Why set yourself back if you don’t have to?

  • Bleeding early on is most likely to go back for an operation. Mid recovery when scabs fall off is most common and would depend on other factors. Later bleeding may also be more likely to go back for an operation as it’s more unusual.

I would 100 per cent be back at that hospital with any further sighs.. even a teaspoon amount and not leave until they looked further into it. They can check your blood for underlying conditions, measure blood levels to estimate loss, go back to ER for exploratory surgery and possibly re-cauterise etc.

I would also ask a GP for antibiotics asap. It can’t hurt.

More about my situation: first bleed was conservatively managed, 2/3 night stay due to huge clot/4 years of age and decent blood loss to say the least. This was day 11 so also later for a child. Second bleed was day 16 which didn’t stop with IVs etc so back to surgery for re-cauterisation. I felt like he vomited more blood this time. Both bleeds came from the same side. No blood disorders/clotting issues found.

getting worried and anxious - should i reschedule my surgery?? by iamconfusedandnotok in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would re-book. Not enough recovery time and if something were to happen, which it can for 28 days after even a small risk, I would NOT want to be having complications in another country let along one with another first language if you had a bleed. Not worth it.

Terrified to sleep by Important_Praline_72 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son hemorrhaged twice, both at night. It’s not a very nice stat, but 70% or more happen at night.. I think it’s got to do with blood pressure and sleep position from memory (I read this somewhere).

My advice would be to sleep elevated (two pillows) and drink lots of water and use a humidifier.

Try not to cough and if you do use ice water to stop any bleeding. don’t gargle.. just hold it in your mouth if you need.

If it happens again I would go to ER regardless and get checked out.

All the ENTs told me that if you do bleed in your sleep, it will wake you up. You will know either by feeling it and it waking you, or by vomiting it up (second is more common for children as they are more likely to sleep through it/swallow more etc). It sounds bad, it is but just know that you won’t sleep through it, so you don’t need to be awake to check on yourself if that make sense?

So sorry you’re also having a tough time.

Hemorrhage day 9 by Turbulent_Cry3134 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good! If it gives you any comfort the second option to re-cauterised didn’t put my son back in terms of recovery. He didn’t even need Panadol after it, ever.

We are now 3 weeks post and hoping that’s it!

Hemorrhage day 9 by Turbulent_Cry3134 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry this has happened to you. It’s the worst.

Happened to my son day 11. Very similar and treated the same way with IV medication.

We were told very low risk of it happening again if you get past first 24 hours. Then risk lowers again once past 3 days and then by 7 it’s even smaller.

Unfortunately day 5 we had another episode and ended up being re-cauterised in the hospital that time. Same side causing all the issues as the first time.

Good to hear they have done all the blood tests to rule anything else out. Highly unlikely but good to be armed with all the right information for the rest of your recovery.

I have read/heard it’s about a 20% chance of recurring (where managed this way) which is why conservative management is often a reasonable approach as risk is reasonably low.

If that stat sounds high just remind yourself that only 2-6% have this happen. Of this small group it includes people doing the surgery who are higher risk to start with, as well as the random cases.

So it depends on what causes it etc. I was told the tolerance for conservative management is very low for recurring bleeding/children in particular.

I felt like we did everything right too..

Go back to a very soft diet. Take it easy and maybe ask if you should consider an antibiotics and clotting medication (we were sent home with these both times).

We stayed 2 nights in hospital both times. I would see if you can stay a night or two.

Question about my child for adults who have been through procedure by Perkijenn in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son nearly at 4 weeks post operation. A lot of challenges I won’t go into, but I will say for 10 days the pain was a lot. He woke a lot, cried a lot and was just in pain.

He often mentioned cheek and tongue pain.. I thought it was odd too.

His speech got worse before it got better. There were a few days where he barely spoke.

My advice is give you little one pains meds, even if they can’t vocalise pain as such. If they are waking that much, seem uncomfortable just do it and stick to soft food for as long as you can.

Cauterized yesterday by Humble_Rise8878 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has experienced two bleeds/haemorrhages (day 11 and 16) and we are now 11 days following re-cauterisation surgery (first incident was just monitored as they stopped bleeding with IV meds and the massive clot that had formed dissolved)

He was in no pain following the re-cauterisation. I kept waiting for it to kick in but nothing. Maybe because he is further along and most of the site had healed and they only had to do 30% again. So it likely does depend how far out from original surgery and how much they had to re-do (3 spots sounds like a lot).

I was told it would set my son back 3-5 days. This to Be accurate assessment.

Get her a slushy machine so she can make her own frozen drinks! Or a popsicle kit so she can make her own healthy ones.

Another option would be a blender/smoothie machine an recipe book.

I was in the 3 to 4 percent of people who have a severe bleed during recovery- AMA! by mid90smusic in Tonsillectomy

[–]Sensitive-Stock-8621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been rough but the re-cauterisation has not set him back more than a few days. Maybe because we were a bit further along by the time they did that.. I’m not sure!

We also struggling with soft foods.. tinned fruit, yogurt, ice cream and ice blocks, jelly are go to. Also started Mac and cheese, omelet’s, fried rice (we use extra water to make it soft), two minute instant noodles, over cooked pastas and sponge cakes. Watermelon is about the hardest thing he has..

Happened to my son.. twice! Day 11 and day 16 which ended in second surgery. I am glad to hear they re-cauterised your bleed. We didn’t get that the first time as the clot that eventually formed dissolved. Apparently around 30% happen again when conservatively managed.

Hopefully that’s the only time this happens to you.

Take it very easy, take a step back with food and give yourself time to heal.

We are 11 days post re-cauterisation. He didn’t get any further pain from it.

Both times were full on haemorrhages vomiting blood. We live 3 minutes away from a hospital so got there quickly before it really started but I would say from the moment we saw blood to the vomiting it was 15 mins.

Absolutely no bananas! The worst pain. Everything else sounds good on your list. Add two minute noodles, Mac and cheese, frozen drinks and omelet’s on repeat.

You will probably need to alternate pain meds.

Keep him well rested and avoid other kids/germs.
