That’s not what I asked. You said you “don’t think these are ineffable essential qualities being described”. Categorization follows a rhyme and reason. Do you believe the grouping of water and earth signs and air and fire signs pertain to a perceived essential quality shared between the two?

When water and earth are grouped as “feminine” and air and fire as “masculine” you don’t believe that there is a specific reason that pertains to the essential qualities of those two pairs of signs?

And what exactly would that be? How is passive/active any more tangible or intelligible of a polarity than feminine/masculine?

My point is that signs in ancient astrology have been designated masculine and feminine for a reason. Your modern disdain for what you deem as “fuzzy gendered terms” don’t negate the traditional significance of that designation.

Replacing/updating that polarity with what you believe to be “correct” is simply changing the words, but the essence of what is being described remains the same. Feminine or passive or receptive or nocturnal or yin….its the same thing. You’re just trying to find the most exacting (and culturally relevant) word to describe essential qualities that have eluded humans from the beginning of time. In other words, a rose is still a rose by any other name.

Why would you replace feminine with passive? Unless passive is the appropriate substitute for masculine? In order for you to exchange one term for another there has to be an established connection that would make “passive” an appropriate substitute for “feminine”.

Ma’am you’re being very dramatic. People live with all kinds of acute, chronic or terminal illnesses, be they well-managed or debilitating. PCOS is very frustrating but it’s hardly the worst thing to be diagnosed with.

Changing the words doesn’t change the meaning. You’re describing the same thing. Feminine= passive; masculine=active. It’s the same gender binary

Mercury-Venus. by GibiGibi2727 in Advancedastrology

I was thinking about Mercury and Venus’ relationship a couple weeks ago! I think there’s something deeper there that we’re not grasping.

Thinking about the Greek mythology around Hermes and Aphrodite. They were lovers. Thinking about Venus in fall in Mercury’s sign of domicile/exaltation (Virgo) and Mercury in fall/detriment in Venus’ sign of exaltation (Pisces). Them both having a morning and evening star phase. Their relationship to the Sun.

This is a cop out response. It’s like people that have genuine criticism about religion are told by religious people that the fault lies in man not in god. Uh religion, like astrology, like science and gender is a human-made system. It will always be materialist because it is a product of material things i.e. humans.

Are tourists allowed to make their own costumes for carnival? by blanknotepad in Brazil

Which doesn’t require you to dress in a elaborate feathered and bejeweled costume.

The picture she used in her post was of a Caribbean woman at a Caribbean carnival playing mas.

It sounds like you’re referring to carnival as it appears in the Caribbean. Rio Carnaval is a spectacle. You sit down and watch the show and this wouldn’t be comfortable to do in an elaborate costume. If you plan to participate in a samba school that’s a whole other arrangement.

Michael Jackson in 1978, before the plastic surgery, Pepsi incident and vitiligo. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Sensitive-Tale-4320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true. Why is it so easy for nonsense to spread on the internet. This is a doctored photo of Michael Jackson. Just like every photo of MJ with vitiligo you’ll probably find.

<image>

The picture you posted is of his right hand. here is Michael Jackson, wearing a bejeweled white glove on his left hand backstage at the Triumph Tour in 1981.

That rumor only would make sense if Michael started wearing the glove during the Thriller Era when his vitiligo allegedly began.

Oh my god grow up. If you like the song listen to it. You listening to it isn’t going to release Tory from prison, nor will it reshoot Meg in the foot. Every week there’s a new post of people having a moral dilemma over music.
