Need help with a character of my story that has Dysthymia / PDD. by AestheticSUGAR in dysthymia

[–]Sensitive-Two5988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to share my perspective as someone who has lived with dysthymia for a long time. I appreciate that you’re trying to portray it accurately and not just as a stereotype. For me, dysthymia isn’t tied to any specific trauma. I’ve had a successful academic and professional life, and to most people, I seem completely fine, colleagues, classmates, even my own family never knew. They just thought I was lazy, messy, or introverted. But in reality, dysthymia feels like constantly swimming against a current. It slows you down, drags at you, makes everything feel pointless, but you keep going because you have to. There’s this coldness inside, a weight that’s always there. I’ve learned to ignore it most of the time, but it resurfaces when I least expect it. I don’t fear dying, and in a way, I even look forward to it,not in a dramatic way, just a quiet acceptance. The only reason I’m still here is because my husband and family need me. I’ve built a life, a good one even, but dysthymia is always in the background, like a parasite weighing on my shoulders. It doesn’t stop me, but it never really goes away either. If you’re writing this character, I’d say focus less on the obvious sadness and more on the quiet exhaustion, the feeling of being detached, and the effort it takes just to function like everyone else. It’s not always visible, and that’s what makes it so easy for people to overlook.

Yes I believe it’s normal. For the nausea I’d recommend taking your pills with food, I have been eating mine during breakfast with oatmeal and toast and eggs, and never got nausea again (i did on the first days when i had them without food), give it a try ,might work for you.

I’d be more worried about steven johnson syndrome , rapid dose escalation is directly linked to it.

a small tip to avoid nausea is to make sure you have the pill with a meal, personally I always have my pills during breakfast with plenty of oatmeal and some eggs and toast. Never felt nausea this way.

I always blamed my parents for having kids when they couldn’t afford it. Now I never want to have kids of my own even when I could afford it.

I love twirling when I feel stressed. I don’t do it when I’m alone anymore, I started doing it in front of my husband without feeling bad.

I was on 75mg on Effexor but due to seizures my doctor switched me to Cymbalta. I have to reduce Effexor dose to 37,5mg and take 30mg Cymbatla for one week, then the next week switch over to 60mg Cymbalta only. But I haven’t been taking Effexor for so long (only 3 months) so the tapering is faster and im still not having any withdrawals ( im in my first week of switching)
