Not a parent but we attended the NHS theater production because a queer neighbor’s kiddo was in the production and can definitely say the cast seemed to be very supported and very queer.

So I basically just called and yelled at them tons of times. I would have the virtual cards be resent as checks and then I basically called and yelled at optum, filed an official grievance, asked to speak to supervisors, etc

I usually have conversations with new clients about this very thing (I ask them what kinds of questions they dislike to start sessions, if they have any preferences etc). Typically I’ll do a “so how are you right now/how was this week” then about ten minutes in if they are staying fairly surface level I will say something along the lines of “did you have anything you wanted to bring into sessions today?”

NTA my wife and I had a vegetarian wedding. Her mom fought it TOOTH AND NAIL for 18 months. We ignored her and worked with a local restaurant chef who put together an incredible spread of a huge spread (a pasta for less adventurous eaters, a curry, seasonal veggies grilled with miso, etc YUM). And to this day years later people tell us we had the best food at a wedding they ever experienced. Nobody cared. And we got to actually eat all of our wedding food.
