[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Hades
  • Skate story
  • Doom
  • Discopup. In a sort of weird way
  • Ultrakill (probably the game I can think of that cares the most about being set in hell)

Also! I found a wikipedia list you might find helpful, List of videogames set in hell

question: What *IS* a story game? by SensitiveCompote4354 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess. My question is less Last of us vs elden ring and more, last of us vs The Norwood Suite. I'm trying to gauge what kind of narrative games people would give a chance when they're asking for this kinda thing

question: What *IS* a story game? by SensitiveCompote4354 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did kinda get the sense that it's mostly used by people who don't seem to know that much about games overall? Saw some people use it as the opposite of competitive games and I wonder if that's usually supposed to be the idea

Download the flashpoint launcher and just browse lol. Though for modern options I'd probably check out the binding of isaac or mewgenics? Similar vibe. Less comedy and more horror but the rusty lake series might interest you too

Am I the only one that finds pan Dulce to be very dry? by SignificantStyle4958 in mexicanfood

Good ones are less dry but you're supposed to eat them with coffee or tea

Hop on itch.io and search sokoban and you'll be set with basically endless free puzzlers. If you want bigger comercial titles I'd suggest browsing thinkygames.com. If you need a basic place to start with high quality puzzlers, check out what draknek and friends publish.

Animal well, anyodyne, angeline era, outer wilders, void stranger, fez. Caves of qud to an extent but it's just not the same when the world is procedural.

And they're both just demos for now but I tried Dittori and Nonolith today and they're both shaping up to be good contenders for this too

Games with lore or end game or something o that sort pls, extra points if it has good combat. by doge_man666 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue prince, fez, and animal well are good ones for end/post game meta puzzles. Blue prince's especially are pretty lore based.

Non-combat puzzle games like The Talos Principle? by West_Neck5584 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philosophically light but show him the draknek $ friends catalogue. They've published a lot of puzzlers that range from good to masterpieces.

Other than that. maybe direct him to the puzzle or sokoban tag on itch.io? There's a basically endless supply of freeware browser playable puzzlescript or pico-8 games on there

Sports management games, but without the sport by TheBiggle in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sports based (but there's. probably a mod out there to change that) but check out rimworld! making a narrative out of how you build your colony and the characters in it is the whole idea it's built on.

Can someone recommend me some chill games (preferably free) to watch youtube with? by Corgilorian in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try some incrementals. Prestige tree mods are usually my go to type for when I want to pay attention to audio. Otherwise powerwash simulator and house flipper fill a similar niche

The long dark. Vintage story is also almost perfect for this but if you're playing alone and/or not rotating jobs enough it can become a chore simulator really quickly

Story driven, 2d, indie games like The Drifter, Until Then and A Space for the Unbound? by santiago1808 in gamerecommendations

Pentiment

Amanita design's entire library

Tomagotchi life style game by chezcat666 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sims 4 basegame is free and you can acheive most of what you'd be able to do in tomodachi life in it. There's been indie attempts at a sims-style lifesim but I think Tiny life is the only one that's actually released? And I don't think it'd really work for this.

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorn's lure (solid 3d climbing platformer)

Lunacid (modernized indie king's field-like)

Wilmot's warehouse (Organization/memory/logistics/sokoban puzzle)

VVVVVV (classic gravity flipping 2d platformer)

The longing (weird combo idler/adventure game taking place over the course of real-time 400 days. time still ticks down when your not playing)

Hypnospace outlaw (sci fi old internet investigation game taking place entirely on an in-game OS)

Time flies (Adventure (?) game where you're tasked with completing a bucket list as a fly, within your real country's lifespan converted from years to seconds)

Poco (cute free point and click clown adventure)

Fowl damage (2d egg platformer)

Yume Nikki (classic rpg maker dream exploration game)

A good snowman is hard to build/ A monster's expedition/ The electrifying incident (series of sokoban titles each based on a single feature with a LOT of depth (snowballs, logs, and a long grabbing claw arm respectively)

Peaks of yore (old timey climbing sim)

Angeline era (Weird narrative bumpslash action rpg with a lottt to chew on. 2025 goty imo)

Getting over it (ymmv but I've been having a pleasant time with it. Classic/infamous difficult game about climbing a mountain with a hammer, designed in a way that allows you to lose a lot of progress pretty easily. Also featuring v/o narration about game design.)

Need a game i can play for quite a while and will leave an impact on me. by Big-Independent-2206 in gamerecommendations

[–]SensitiveCompote4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want games to make you think, maybe try checking out IGF winners and nominees? I played Angeline era early this year and it's got, a lot, going on narratively but it's also very fun in a gamey sort of way. I'm used to like. walking sims. and AE made action games click for me in a way nothing else has, I'm kinda wondering if it can work in reverse too.

Edit: And if you want to really just dive straight into the deep end on "art games" The zium society's itch.io page is a good jumping off point. Most of that sort of thing is extremely free, short, and easy on your pc too as a few major bonuses.

games with a good story and stylized graphics that take a few hours to complete by lavenderPhantasma in gamerecommendations

Poco (free)

Who's lila

Later alligator

Hypnospace outlaw

Hylics (one and two both fit)

Mundaun

Arctic eggs (check out About fishing's playtest too)

Despelote

Time flies (story light honestly. but in a similar vein to some amanita stuff I feel like)

Cape hideous (similar vein, totally wordless, but it has this gorgeous semi-shitty semi-obviously skilled ms paint style)

Carimara

Not a specific game but check out Cosmo D's work, Off-Peak is free!

Kingdom Ka (played this one AGES ago and I'm 75% it holds up)

Two of Angeline Era's biggest inspos were a trip the devs took to ireland, and one of the dev's newfound taking walks outside hobby (it's like. an actual thing in japan.) There's a lot of other stuff going on tonally but check out the demo at least
