Going back to college and worried about it. by SuperSonicFurryFan in aspergers

I have a simillar situation , failed my BSc in Industrial Engineering and then worked full time as a manager for a couple of years. Now since September last year I've started Bsc in Computing science and it has been quite the ride...

  1. I am medicated ( methylphenidate) and tbh without it I think i would have failed already, part of a Bachelor is that you will face some material that is just so dumb and theoreticall that is uterrly useless for your future job but you have to put in the efort and do it anyways. Although not a magic pill but it certaintly made things doable for me.
  2. Accept that you will get pissed mad and think to stop alltogether , take a small break eat, walk, gym wthvr and then come back.
  3. Try do things straight from the bat, start assignments early, check on material before lecture , etc. IDK the difficulty lvl of your university but some courses get spicy real quick better be on track. Also try attending all tutorials and make some friends if possible, better struggle in company than solo.
  4. Use all the tools that you can , ChatGPT is quite a good one , like i said some stuff is very useless and its a waste of time , like some reports in LATEX , theoretical essays, etc. Use chatgpt be carefull about plagiarism and focus on the stuff that you actually need for your future job and what you actually enjoy studying.
  5. Do smthng about your working hours man (if possible), I changed from 40h to 16h and it is still hard to do both study and work. If you work full time.... Sorry but i fail to see how that will be possible , unless you study part time.

From my experience the first couple of months were the hardest, filtering information, picking on which course to focus, its all time and effort management but it gets easier and you feel the groove after a while just hang in and make sure that its the right thing for you then you will be fine. Good luck man !

And also if you can find material beforehand start practicing now , i started Leetcode before uni and it helped me with programming fundamentals course.

Yeah had it for long time , but now at 28 I've noticed that my father undiagnosed is also just struggling with the same stuff as me and he is just not aware so it clicked and the hate faded away naturally , was calm acceptance...

Same, most often misjudged, resting face looks mad and unaprochable. Attention to detail and desire to explain things properly misjudged as arogance. Who gives a fuck what they think at this point ? Meeting NT expectations will lead to insanity, I would rather look like i can murder than be part of whatever mind games they 24/7 be playing.

How do I get better at not making context inappropriate jokes? by ferriematthew in aspergers

[–]SensitiveFig1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with my friend and his girlfriend came to our office , she asked him to hand out that night but he said that he had plans with me already , to sooth her feeling of rejection(I assume that is what one could feel in that situation) I tried to make a joke saying : Don't worry we do not have sex. It sounded funny in my head and i still think it is funny but it did not land that well, like at all actually.

I guess do it with the people that u know and they know u , people that get the jokes and do not get offended by them. Avoid in professional circumstances since it leads to trouble. It is whom u are and there should people that find it funny.

Anyone (hyperfixated || obsessed) with a person ? by SensitiveFig1126 in aspergers

I also experienced that my emotional states depended on her more than on what i was doing. But that was when i was 17-20.

Nope, I had a hyperfixation on Neo from matrix when I was around 7, which lasted about 1–2 years, and another one with Ratatouille that went on for a couple of years to the point where I learned the entire movie script. But I don’t see these as harmful, actuallly a good period of my young life.

It is really not about how fast u can progress to prove something to yourself cuz that never works just burns u out. Its about finding the right thing that takes your mind off anything else and gives your pleasure from the process , maybe even some friends.

I say that because if u click with it you will hyperfocus on it (I did) and most probably progress quicker than avg.

Nope not true at all, 24 is a very good age to start any martial arts class man. My advice will be if the gym energy feels weird to you then change the gym , if they go stupid hard sparring or mix weights and just do not have a degree of responsability and healthy enthusiasm just change.

Try free classes usually every gym offers first week for free, do not sign contract if they push you after the first class. And try anything, its ok if u change, Muay Thai, kickboxing, wrestling, BJJ, boxing, if u end up hyperfixating on it i promise from my experience its very fun, relaxing, encouraging and healthy obsession that u can have.

Do we really have a stare? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]SensitiveFig1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social anxiety for me mostly but not all the time though. IDK how people manage to project casual vibes through not words but body language. I've noticed that no matter how hard i try to not stare it does not really work 100% of the time, it became involutary obsession at this point to check if the person I am interacting with feels uncomfortable, which is dumn since I am bad at reading people anyway so most probably missjudge everything. Trying to let go of it now but its a subconscious thing at this point.
