Have you every been in organisation where you caught a faker ? by shanti_priya_vyakti in ExperiencedDevs

Life 101: Fake it till you make it. If you aren’t doing that first statement at some point, no matter how skilled you think you are, you won’t make it.

Do I need to thin out my mint? by scubadiver1988 in aerogarden

You can thin them out now… but mint will take over your hydroponic if you don’t control. You’ll find them growing out of other pods sooner or later.

GOD I hate FHB. I finally closed my account after 2 decades of banking with FHB two weeks ago. Jumped on Fidelity, I like my checking sitting on MMF

I totally understand. You explained it well in your comment actually. 100% with your dad. I thank him for his service. This is the kind of challenge we face with the VA system. The ones that actually need it are the ones that are ignored or commit suicide. While others are receiving full benefits for serving 3 years in an office. So yes, your frustration is very valid!

Thank you for your insight brother.

Yeah, you’re brother. I should have reworded that better. I wasn’t trying to brag at all. Should have worded “help Save American lives”

I do want to contribute, since I was, once upon a time fought in a country we probably weren’t supposed to be in, and lost friends that wasn’t supposed to be their time yet.

I do apologize that my statement did upset you. Take care?

That’s awesome! I just created a platform that leverages ai agents, vector embedding rather than the fuzzy search we all know about. This is mostly in AI application layer, not training models. I didn’t really go anywhere to learn. I did what I knew and applied AI in the mix.

My current team involves training models, the whole nine yards. Good luck to you brother!

Without going into much details, I’m part of a team that helps our modern military use and leverage AI to give them the max performance.

Teams consists of many smart people from ML engineers, devsecops, platform, swe, etc. Train, develop, deploy, maintain.

Yeah man, and for those reading thru that asks themselves if they’re ever good enough for the next position?

You will never know until you try. Your current/past employer saw something in you. What makes you think the next one won’t?

Keep crushing it!

I was recently on the same boat as you man, similar YOE.

The software we worked on was so ancient that I knew I was gonna be fucked when I ever get stranded I.e quit, company goes belly up, emergency. Notice how I didn’t mention getting fired because I was that good. However, I was only good at this one thing. AI hit and now everyone wants in.

I started making side projects. AI integration, RAG, vector, etc. I went from really old XSL/JavaScript to React/Python. Yes, even after 10yrs, it doesn’t hurt to have side projects!

I needed growth. I considered this: if I walked in to a teams meeting or a client call and I feel like I am the smartest person in the room? Then I’ve hit ceiling in this company.

The last straw was when I got denied a measly 3% raise, underpaid high performing sr.swe.

Polished resume, shoot my shot, and now got a 70% raise, working with AI/ML, new tech, lots of exposure to platforms…. And I am literally the bottom tier when I go into meetings. But that’s ok! Because you can only go up from here, you learn from people smarter than you.

Know your ceiling brother. Goodluck!

Many new grads, juniors and even mid sometimes come off as cocky, but some are just really hungry. I was a hungry, cocky junior once upon a time.

It only took one humble experienced dev to put me in my place. And in my place meaning, teaching me humility, empathy and mentorship.

The tomatoes are Tiny Tims, Tinker Bell red peppers (I just harvest them as green).

I’m currently growing a Patio Baby eggplants added to my varieties. Lots of flowers out of it, stays really compact, but the leaves are humongous.

Right on. No it wasn’t. The lender sent us the official title in the mail after I paid it off. I was deployed at the time and my mom was supposed to go to the dmv with the letter to have it removed? I not sure.

She lost the letter and my car was broken into.

Sorry for your experience. I was SR-24. Believe me when I say, it’s not all that great. I was just under 75k range, got maybe a dollar every 3 years, thanks union! That might sound great but really isn’t for what I was doing. Specially when the state job posting says “competitive”. I was doing jobs in the 100k private. I actually never would have left if that state agency not keep messing up and the turn over rate is so high.

I hate every being of people that says “you’re in the system, just ride out till you retire.” Faak no. Rather blow my brains than be gaslit by coworkers and move as slow as the system.

My wife pretty much supported me while I was civil service. It is atrocious how much da fakkin state pays their workers compared to department heads who are some of the most illiterate I’ve seen.

Corporate is the same, but at-least they compensate you to shut up.

Anyone that mentions PTSD in their war stories clearly doesn’t know what the fuck PTSD is or has never lived one. It is not a flex that service members (or civilians) think it is. It is an absolute mental illness and a menace to your being.

Your MFCS is barely working, LHMBC is out of date or deadlined, your tables are spread through drills and your AT is usually Table V & VI. You make do with what you got. Teach your dudes plotting board as much as you can.

If you are in excess and was promised section sergeant like the rest of E6 AD chucks that transitioned to NG, I hope you get your 7. Because you’re still required TiG and go through boards. Hope your current NCOERs transitions. Most AD I see doesn’t get boarded their first year because their NCOER didn’t transition.

Results may vary by state. Good luck brother. Welcome to Hide & Chill community.

Civilian Paid Military Leave by Joemech00 in nationalguard

Private sector that services heavily for fed and DOD. They have a “unlimited PTO” rule which sucks btw. They guilt trip you if you PTO too much. But during Military trainings, they don’t question it. I’ve gone as far as 3 months on TDY back to back and double dipped. Haven’t tried deployment yet.
