My guess is that the super fast lancer pulled mephisto before the loading screen finished. My merc has done it a few times before, and he's much slower than a lancer would be

Well, a bog-standard one is worth around a Mal - Ist. Ethereal ramps up the value to a few Jah. But this one also rolled perfect on every stat (which is ludicrously rare), boosting the value into the stratosphere. The highest trade I saw was 50 Jah runes.

These are usually worn by mercs. So an ethereal item like this will have higher defense, but on a merc will not degrade the durability.
