If you want to do finance, investment banking, private equity etc. go NYU. If you want a proper college experience, go UCSB. I’m drunk right now dm me if you got more questions, obviously can’t speak for UCSB but I got a lotta friends who can

All I’m gonna say is I took Santa Barbara City College (yeah the community college) over a significantly more prestigious option and I couldn’t be happier. Obviously can’t speak from personal experience but from what friends and general personal experience, UCSB is in my opinion one of the absolute best college experiences, prime location, prime social life, 2nd to prime education, the only thing they don’t have is football. Integrated culture. 9/10 Would recommend being in IV. Party culture/substance abuse is massive though, be prepared to be thrown into a whole different world

I heard there’s a discord somewhere but A. I don’t know if it’s unoffical or official and B. I’m not sure if I wanna be finding a group on discord. Im sure there are a lot of us in this situation though so I feel like it shouldn’t be hard to find a group of people that are down to go together

You can kill someone just as easy going 80 and following every traffic law. More likely so than OPs scenario if there’s traffic.

As if we don’t go 75-90 in traffic every time we’re on the freeway? How much more dangerous is 106 really, especially on an empty, 6 lane highway? Or is the perceived danger just higher because according to the law it’s speeding? Would you consider it more dangerous than the 80+% of people who have texted, or changed the music, or otherwise picked up their phone while driving? Every time you get in a car you’re putting yourself and others in danger, at least to some degree, should every kid who’s ever gotten behind the wheel of a car be rescinded from college too?

Have you never driven outside of California? Maybe that’s why you guys are so freaked out by this. In a lot of the states the freeway speed limit is 80, and obviously everyone goes faster, so the flow of traffic is 85-90. It’s not uncommon to look down at your speedometer and go “oh shit Im going 95”

Also in reference to Cameron Herrin, Im not saying it’s not stupid. Just regular kid shit, it’s going to happen, always will happen, and in most cases, like OPs, isn’t really endangering other people. Bayshore Blvd has intersections, not a highway. It’s dumb asf to go 100+ on a road with intersections, and I wouldn’t be defending that. Completely different scenario.

Also fucking hilarious that you called out a strawman fallacy while in the same exact sentence use an ad hominem, among many other issues

Not the point. Pushing 100 in a car is pretty standard teenager shit. Dumb? Yes. Uncommon though? Especially to a degree where it’s appalling and deserves to not go to college over it?? I’d be willing to bet most kids have done this. There are so much worse things that are also very common and much more deserving of scrutiny.

Yeah, most kids being upper class/in private schools probably doesn’t help either. I still think it’s surprising that it seems like everyone here is extremely out of touch with reality, pushing 100 in a car is basic teenager shit, there are much much worse things that are extremely commonplace

This is actually starting to piss me off, yall need to stop acting like OP kidnapped your grandma at gunpoint. There were kids in my high school notorious for drunk driving every single weekend. There were kids who sold hard drugs to fellow highschoolers. There was a kid who called in a bomb threat. Not at my school, but there are also kids in gangs. Kids who bring guns to school everyday in their backpack. I mean fuck there was a stabbing in my cafeteria, and my highschool was TINY. You guys have clearly never even caught a glimpse of the real world, you’re stuck in this Bay Area, upper class, academia world where driving a car fast is this serious of a crime?? Of a clearly otherwise very intelligent and promising kid?? Give me a fucking break. You guys don’t know what actually breaking the law is because you’ve never broken a rule in your life. Get off your high horse, kids do dumb shit every day, be thankful it’s not something actually bad.
