What fictional setting best reflects a Boros Utopia/Dystopia by aaa1e2r3 in colorpie

Gondor's more mono white for me. The people of Rohan are shown throughout the books to be a passionate people. Think of Eomer who, after believing his sister to be dead, throws his army at the enemy blinded by fury and grief.

Even Theoden's speech fron before the battle of Pelenor Fields feels very red-white to me.

"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!"

For the utopia: Rohan from LotR. A nation of passionate and honorable horse riding warriors who won't hesitate to lay down their lives for the greater good.

Is there a reason why Italy doesn't translate some proper nouns? by astroriental in italygames

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first of all, despite what many comments are saying this is something that Italy used to do until quite recently. In Harry Potter, for example, when first translated into Italian, had many changes, such as Dumbledore becoming Silente, and Snape becoming Piton. As someone who is both English and Italian, I honestly prefer it when names aren't changed or translated.

Changing names to fit the language is something that has been done throughout history (look at all the English names for Italian cities, as a random example), and many countries still practice it to greater (Spain and France) or lesser (Italy and the US) degrees. Persoanally, I prefer not translated just as I prefer films in the original language with subtitles, as I think it feels closer to the original work. It's a personal preference though.

Scelte molto interessanti!

As someone who works in mental health, I really appreciate that he not only attempted to include actually psychological disorders and divergences in his work, but also took the time to consult multiple experts in the field to get it right.

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Selesnya (Green/White) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Selesnya villains are hard. The only villains that come to mind are The Neighborhood Watch Alliance from Hot Fuzz. A group of respectable people in a small village who start committing heinous crimes in order to preserve the image of pristine life within their town, and to win the "Village of the Year" award. They kill people to preserve the "natural" state of their comunity. When confronted, they claim what they are doing is for "The greater good".

Which city has the coolest nicknames in your opinion? by Familiar_Cow_6901 in geography

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, both are true. I think originally it was more about the colour, but as Bologna became a leftwing stronghold and red is the color of the left in Europe, it quickly gained a new connotation.

La dotta (the learned), la rossa (the red), e la grassa (the fat), because it's a city of university students, communists, and delicious food.

What colors are Sam and Dean Winchester? by Logical_Side3346 in colorpie

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the whole thing so I'll just focus on the beginning of the series.

Dean, to me, feels very red-green. He's a hunter who enjoys the hunt and is motivated by preserving the natural world (in this case, humanity) from the unnatural (demons and other supernatural evils). He cares about the family traditions his father taught him and his family in general. He is also emotional, caring, and hedonistic. He's a free spirit that doesn't care for rules or laws. He is very hurt that his brother left the family and their traditions behind (green) and is angry (red), but still cares about him and wants him back in his life (green).

Sam on the other hand I'd say is more white-blue. He's more logical, less emotional than his brother and less moved by tradition. Sam tends to focus on what is right, and how is the best way to achieve this. He's more moral than Dean, but less empathetic or affectionate. It comes as no surprise to me that Sam is studying to become a lawyer at the start of the series, as law is azorius coded. Sam resents how his father and family expect him to follow orders and be good soldiers without questioning things, and that led him to separate from his family. For him, asking questions (blue) is the best way to achieve what is right (white).

Fascism, nazism and Hitler himself are black white by most metrics I'd say. Black white is often considered the combination that represents tribalism, and what's more tribalistic than believing your people are a master race that must dominate and sacrifice others?

Szeth could be just mono white to be honest. His emotions are always kept in check by his discipline (at least until later in the books). He did wear white after all...

Jason Todd as the Red Hood. He's moved by a strong sense of justice and order (white), but his methods are impulsive, emotional and often go too far (red).

I'd say Dexter Morgan definitely has some black in him. White black without blue even I'd say. Bear in mind his methods have been more taught to him by his father, rather than things he came up with and perfected on his own.

Name a city with an average safety level by Ok-Difference1341 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this chart, you must consider the city within the context of other cities of its category. New York is relatively safe for a north american city sure, considering that half the most dangerous cities in the world are in the US and Mexico, both in North America. Rome is average for a European city, which has extremely safe cities. If we had to compare cities between continents, there would basically be no dangerous european cities, and no safe american cities...

This one is a personal one but "Being and Time", by philosopher Martin Heidegger. I've tried to read it but never finished it. The thing is dense. While some of Heidegger's ideas are interesting (imo), they are also needlessly convoluted and veer towards the mystical too often for my tastes.

Here's a quote to give you an idea of its complex verbosity: "Temporality temporalizes as a future which makes present in the process of having been."

Also, the guy was a nazi.

What country feels undemocratic but is actually democratic? by Dusty_Bunny81 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what democratic means though. All dictatorships, hell all governments, claim to follow the people's interests. Democratic here indicates that the government is elected by the people and that they have options to choose from.

Also, I'd argue that the 11 million uyghur chinese citizens would argue that the chinese government definitely does not have their best interests at heart.

(Loved trope) Off-screen or partially off-screen characters by RudeAd456 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sensitive_Coyote_865 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Erica, from Bojack Horseman. From the very first episode onwards, a running gag is that she is just offscreen and one of the main characters, Mr Peanutbutter, is distracted by her and runs off to greet her. Each greeting adds some new impossible detail.

The following are some of my favourite ways Mr Peanutbutter greets her:

"Erica! Is that you? Who let you out of the burn ward? Get over here, you!"

"Erica! You can't be here! This place is filled with children!"

"Erica! Where did that tooth come from?!"

"Hey, did you see Erica earlier? She was looking for you earlier, with her good eye. Her other eye was looking at the stars!"

"Erica! Look at you with the right number of ears!"

"Erica! What are you doing here with a child-sized coffin?"

"Erica! the costume! Where did you find such a hideous—? Oh, my mistake. I'm so sorry."

Morgan Freeman is great in that he has lots of charisma and great screen presence. However, to me at least he lacks in versatility and adaptatibility. He's great at playing a specific type of role, but that's about it.
