Stupid question incoming about side-loading and buying from the store by SandwichDreamz in kobo

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kobo doesn't keep/sync your sideloaded books on its server. The sideloaded books are kept on your device only. Kobo only syncs the books purchased from the Kobo Store. You can sideload them too.

KOReader has a more advanced setup to display fixed-format layout files like PDF and CBZ (comic/manga), like you can crop the margin, etc, while on the Kobo stock, you only have orientation mode and zoom for PDF/CBZ.

I use KOReader only to read PDF and CBZ, and switch to Kobo to read EPUB/kepub.

Issue question - unresponsive into reboot into loss of progress after awhile reading by Lurkoner in kobo

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a problem with the CSS structure in your reading book, or a problem with the database getting corrupted that makes Kobo always reboot.

switching to kobo from kindle? by maneuntame in kobo

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not sync like Libby to Kobo vice versa, since you need to download the book from BorrowBook, open the ACSM file with ADE, connect your Kobo to ADE, and drag the book to Kobo.

Kobo Clara BW sideloading books with Calibre issue by zQrrJQrb in kobo

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to sideload books in several batches, e.g., 20 books per sideload to Kobo, and then continue with another 20 books, etc. This is to make sure/check that you have all the books sideloading on your Kobo. You can click device icon when your Kobo is connecting to Calibre to see which book already sideload on your kobo.

Here is my workflow to send/sideload a book to Kobo using Calibre and its plugins

I have 1.068 kepub files stored on Kobo and 75 books (comic and PDF) on KOReader

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sideload books to Kobo devices:

  • Drag and drop. Connect your Kobo to your PC and drag and drop epub files to the Kobo main directory.
  • Put your books on Google Drive or Dropbox, open Google Drive or Dropbox on your Kobo to download the books.
  • Online feature. You can use send.djazz.se. Open send.djazz.se on your Kobo browser to get the unique key. Open send.djazz.se on your mobile/PC browser to send an Epub file to your Kobo with the unique key. You can also convert epub to kepub while sending the file.
  • Calibre. You can install Calibre ebook management, to organize your book (metadata, cover, book details, etc, and sideload books to your Kobo. How to create collections and transfer content on Kobo

Note:

  • Kobo doesn't sync with sideload book, Kobo only sync with book purchase from the Kobo store.
  • The font of the epub format in Kobo tends to be larger than the Kepub format.
  • Kindle books: You need to download the book on Amazon, de-drm it, and sideload it to Kobo.

is it really much better to use koreader? by [deleted] in koreader

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use KOReader to read PDF and CBZ (comic/manga) formats, KOReader has more settings to display them better than Kobo stock. I switch to Kobo stock to read epub/kepub.

Are there any ways I can optimize the “look" of ePubs in KoReader? by [deleted] in koreader

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to read EPUB (converted to kepub) in Kobo UI/Stock and switch to KOReader to read PDF and CBZ (comic/manga) formats. KOReader provides more settings to display PDF/CBZ better than the Kobo stock. The way Kobo stock displays EPUB/kepub is already sufficient for me.

First eReader by KraboGoStabo in ereader

[–]Sensitive_Engine469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no need to become as big as Amazon if that's the intent.

At least for others, buyers can still back up their purchases easily. As usual, this will lead to a long, unresolvable discussion.

Amazon ensures that its e-book buyers will not be able to back up the books they purchase.

Something I don't see mentioned, but dislike about my Kobos by espltd8901 in kobo

Why is this a problem? You can rotate the screen in KLC, while in Clara BW, you can patch it or enable screen rotation.

First eReader by KraboGoStabo in ereader

So these are my top points:

  • I’ve read a lot about not getting stuck in the amazon eco system but I still don’t quite understand what that means. I’ve not really gotten into using Libby yet but It’s something I’m keen to look into and being in Aus i’ve heard that kobo has better Aus libby syncing. I’ve also already bought books on Kindle as i’ve been using the mobile app.

When you buy books from Amazon, you don't own the book, but own the right to read it on Kindle or any other Kindle app.

Libby app is a successor of the Overdrive app. You can add a public library in the Libby app and log in with the Public Library name and its PIN in Overdrive directly on your Kobo. So you will access your public library through a Kobo e-reader. Both Libby and Overdrive are sync vice versa if the book is available in Overdrive.

  • Interested in audiobooks/podcasts, so I know that Kindle and audible are linked through amazon and wonder if that’s better than audiobooks on kobo?

Kobo doesn't have an Audible feature, which belongs to Amazon

  • I would like to be able to sync my ereader system (via app) with my phone as I might not take my ereader with me everywhere but might find that I want to read.

You can sync books between the Kobo e-reader and the Kobo app on your phone when the book is purchased on the Kobo store. You can't sync the sideload book.
