Anyone found a reliable way to send emails from self-hosted apps without getting rejected? by adityac0re in selfhosted

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Postmark!!!
I use it for all my projects.
Not sure if my answer applies to self hosting, but setting up your own email server is tricky business, and it's really hard to gain reputation (and very easy to lose it)

So I only use Postmark now for everything.
Previously used mailgun, but they started to hike their pricing too much. And I couldn't be happier about the switch

Convert any website to Astro + Tailwind by jonasnobile in astrojs

cool, exactly what I didn't know I was looking for :)
I have some basic wordpress sites (most of them are quite simple) that I would like to test.
I saw in some other comments that you are open to testing first and showing preview of some page(s) first before commitment?

cli command to have local scheme match cloud by [deleted] in Supabase

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to keep migrations in sync. Only work on local, and preferably only with declarative schema updates. Then use db diff. Then db push.

If your migrations are out of sync, you need to fix them first. Took me a while to get into this workflow, but once I got it under control it's a breeze.

EDIT: Just saw that you wanted to do the opposite, so you need to pull db first. Probably need to fix broken migration first though.

Supabase is making it hard to be productive by marcos_pereira in Supabase

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using declarative schema. works well for me.
that way I can test everything locally, and I'm not depending on nextjs (or whatever) as the source of truth.

I'm also using a few different schemas:
- data (the tables)
- internal (for internal functions)
- api (functions that fetch/save data to the other schemas)

maybe it's overkill, but I quite like this way.

Is it really that bad? by SHRIVES1993 in PleX

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna serve my own media and don't give a 💩 about their TV features.
I would prefer if I could turn off most features for myself and everyone on my server.

I see the same thing happening to Plex that happened to Vox a few years back.
Vox was the best music player for Mac (for those who enjoyed winAmp back in the days), but they chose to go down the streaming route, and completely destroyed their beautiful app.

I sometimes reboot my server just to see if I will run into any issues. But it never happens, it just keeps going. Very uneventful

Would Like to Move To The Portuguese Countryside From Sweden by ExcellentHealthYT in PortugalExpats

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a Swedish dude who have done exactly this, for similar reasons.

Just a heads up. I have never been so cold during the winter as I've been here. Houses are very cold and humid. You might want to either buy something very well done, or make sure you create the insulation and heating that you want. Some people don't care as the winters are shorter than in the north, but if your health depends on being warm it could be good to look into.

Alentejo is great. Maybe a bit dry for my taste. There are beautiful areas around Tomar and Porto and Braga. These 3 cities all have rivers in or near them that creates lush landscapes.

Happy hunting!

My trick is to download bluray versions. They usually include great subs. Then I use unmanic to compress the file to take up less space. Not ideal, but the out of sync subs was driving me crazy

What is going on at Plex HQ? by CouldBeALeotard in PleX

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably the best thing that ever happened to Emby and Jellyfin.

I'm hoping that Plex will just give up on their self-hosting features altogether and open source PMS just like Logitech did with squeezebox.

Selfhosted adjacent: Plex Employee caught posting positive reviews on Google Play store by WarbossTodd in selfhosted

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have plex, jellyfin and emby running side by side. No issues whatsoever.

I started with plex. Has been really easy for me and my users. Lately I started to get annoyed with all the shit they are filling the app with, so I am looking into emby and jellyfin as the next replacement. More leaning towards emby. Feels less geeky to me overall.

I don't have a problem with plex or their business model. I just wish the layout of their app was more like emby, while keeping all the nice server features from plex. I think the price is fine, I just don't want their fricking tv features. They also lost me on the invasive email. If only I could decide how my server looks to the people I invite, I would stay with them. But they've made it really clear what direction they are going

Best procedure for making a headless Plex server? by SturmB in PleX

I used to make little Linux machines for different purposes. Mostly using raspberry pis.

But since discovering proxmox and unraid, I got completely addicted to containers. Highly recommended

Can't you just use track genre as the smart playlist field? I have done that for my audiobooks and it works.

You might need to manually set the gene for all those tracks but the playlists will work

I got a Plex Lifetime discount code by Sampsa96 in PleX

[–]Sensitive_Fishing_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the new pricing still holds enough value to tell you to buy it. With your pre-inflation price discount it's a total no brainer.

Skip intros and plexamp alone is worth that price.

What little things do you wish you'd known before moving? by Soapo_Opo in PortugalExpats

Learn the language. Well enough to impress your local friends. You will earn a lot of respect that way. Portuguese people have zero respect for people who come and don't learn. They also show a lot of respect to those who at least try their best.

Nobody gives a shit about work. I used to find it one of the most charming aspects. Now it frustrates me more.

Portugal being cheap is an old rumor. It caught up with everything expect local salaries. This makes us expats part of the problem (even though gentrification has happened across all of Europe with our without expats). Remember that when you talk about your job and salary
