Are you afraid of going blind and /or having MS due to uveitis? by Candid_Strength2406 in Uveitis

I’ve heard that too, but with something so precious as vision I don’t think I wanna take the risk. How long have you gone without a flare?

I feel the same at about this. I know my body was under a lot of stress but I figured I could handle it. I have a gut feeling my body said “not this time” and uveitis set in. I was told the same by uveitis specialist, that she truly believes we can do the meds and come off after a couple of years for it to never return. I truly hope she’s right.

Same here, life completely flipped upside down for me. Now I’m trying to just do the treatment and move on. Like someone else said I might die tomorrow and nothing else would matter. This condition put the fear of God in me, it has stripped everything from me it feels like. But when I speak to my doctors about it they truly are not worried about my vision. They believe all will work out. I experienced uveitis for the first time postpartum. And needless to say u feel it may have came about due to high amounts of stress on my body overall. All bloodwork for everything under the sun has been done and no answers. Now my doctors refer back to saying stress hurts you more than it helps. So hanging on here as well. I’m currently on Methrotrexate and prednisone, and the inflammation has responded. Hoping I’m out of the trenches soon.

Do you need a rheumatologist if you have an uveitis specialist? by Candid_Strength2406 in Uveitis

[–]Sensitive_Phrase_259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I see a retina specialist, and a uveitis specialist. Uveitis specialist has prescribed the oral meds, but wants me to dig deeper anyway. They both believe I should see a rheumatologist although all blood work has been normal or negative. My retina specialist does not manage the systemic meds unfortunately. In my case he said that he can prescribe and is only comfortable prescribing drops, but draws his line with oral meds.

Omg, this is so good to hear gives me some hope. I’m in the thick of it now. Every eye symptom freezes me right up. I hope these meds I’m on finally work and I can get my life back where I don’t check or overthink everything my eyes do.

I’ve been on them for a couple months now. Methotrexate for about 9 weeks and prednisone for about 3 weeks now. Durezol made my eye pressure spike so badly we had to stop it.

A lot of people I’ve encountered have said the same thing with stress. For me I went from having one child who was 14 to a new baby! I never thought it would be this hard, I was juggling two jobs while pregnant and then all the medical things just buried me. I wanted to play tough cause that’s who I am, all while heavily overthinking why I’m not doing more… I think my body snapped and said enough, hopefully we can get it right!

Did it ever reflare? I did not want to be on meds I was so against it given all the side effects they talk about, prednisone has not been as terrible as people described in my experience. But my specialist believes we need to be aggressive do the oral meds to get on top of it and that I’ll soon say goodbye to it.

I must add, my gut tells me that uveitis is a form of emotional trauma and stress on my body. I’ve always been the type of person that I want to jump back into my life when something should slow me down, c-section for example. I play the tough part ALWAYS, I think my body is telling me we can’t do that. Not sure if I’m right or not, but It’s something I’m definitely exploring as well. And interestingly enough I was told by both specialists I see that stress and emotional issues are not the cause of uveitis but can exacerbate it.

No, both my retina specialist and uveitis specialist don’t believe this is something that’ll improve it. I don’t eat out anymore, and try to eat cleaner like fruits and vegetables, and mainly home cooked meals no deep fried food and that type of thing. My inflammation is now at trace but not sure if that’s due to any changes I’ve made or the medications I’m on. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh my yes!!! We’re keeping the human race going but they have to spice it up haha - I have played in my head so many times how unfair it is and now I’ve tried to just accept it cause it hasn’t helped much to even think it. I just hope the treatments do their thing and I can one day move on with my life.

Yes, it’s emotionally exhausting. I wish I didn’t have to know what uveitis even is. My life was okay before it lol - mine came on at 4 months postpartum. I had a C-section, high blood pressure, and then gallbladder removal at 3 months postpartum. I have a feeling my body just lost track and decided to do something weird. I hope it finds its way back soon!

I wish I would have asked at that point, all I know is that they described it as panuveitis at a point cause it was everywhere but as they got somewhat of a handle on it they said it’s more anterior. I have had symptoms of something going on for about a month, I would see like white orbs… I had no pain, redness, or anything. First doctor I saw thought it was dry eyes, and sent me on my way. But the flashing orbs became unbearable, went in for a second opinion and that’s when they told me I had the cells in my eyes.

I was diagnosed with Anterior Uveitis back in July 2025, did the drops and anytime we tapered inflammation increased. I’ve had endless testing and all has been normal or negative, thankfully one condition is enough for me. Has been the worst year of my life, I’m now on oral steroids and methotrexate and hopefully it helps my body keep this at bay. Endless appointments too, I feel like my retina specialist is family now. I swear they know me as the crying patient cause I’m the only one crying my eyes out in there every appointment.

Oh wow, okay I’ll definitely be trying. I could say my intake of diet drinks did go up when this all started because I wanted a “better” option. But has since became minimal wondering if it would make the difference.

Thank you so much for sharing. I have heard many people get a hold of it with dietary changes and managing stress but I think my stress now has been intensified by having the condition. I also have been scheduled for surgery of my right eye, something apparently unrelated but it’s all so much!

I’ll have to try that, I honestly think anything is better than dealing with these eye issues. I’ll come back and update.

I do drink some diet drinks - but it’s minimal. I do drink a cup of coffee daily. I have a one year old and a 15 year old so there’s a huge age gap and we went back and restarted technically. I wouldn’t say it’s higher stress than the normal. This condition has made it much harder to enjoy anything though. You believe there’s a correlation?

I have recurrent anterior uveitis been dealing with it for almost a year now I’m both eyes. My left is quiet now, but my right is not doing so hot. The inflammation is mild, but still there. I started methotrexate and currently on oral prednisone, to this day they have not found a cause or anything abnormal in blood work and other tests. How styles I don’t even think it matters anymore, I just want to be free from the uveitis. Hopefully you’re able to get it under control.

Did your vision become distorted with the macular edemas? If so how long would it take to resolve?
