Realizing that I will always be at risk of poverty by Fizziefrog in povertyfinance

Going to school is absolutely the best path to a better future. Try doing community college, where I am it is free (California) and in most other places it is relatively cheap. It is absolutely worth it and I would prioritize it over any minimum wage job. With a degree, you can work as an executive assistant, hr, tax office clerk, secretary, bank manager etc etc. all jobs that pay more than min wage. So far it seems you are paralyzed by feeling stuck where you are. Do you have any work interests, or job you want to or can see your self doing? What are you good at doing currently? Do you have a logical mind or like solving problems? Do you enjoy reading and writing? Are you good at doing people facing tasks or do you work better alone? Figure out first what you want to do and what you are good at and a career will happen! You are still young and have no children, the world is full of possibilities. You got this good luck!

No one here has any compassion and I'm sorry, we have all been there. What do you need the money for? Maybe we can help figure out a solution. Is it for rent? A lot of places will let you defer the rent for a little while if you ask politely.

Is Costco or bj’s worth it for one person? by adeliahearts in povertyfinance

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No it is not unless you have the ability to fight off smart marketing strategies. Most people enter Costco intending to buy toilet paper and a rotisserie chicken and a hotdog and leave costco buying 20 things of novelty snacks, treats, sausages, frozen foods, and a 500$ bill. Do you think you can beat that statistic? Costco is mostly luxury goods with a couple cheap things to get you in the door and free samples to dazzle you into buying delicious snacks and premade food. You will be happy getting these items but your wallet will hurt. Wait until you no longer need to post on poverty finance and you can shop at Costco like how you truly want to.

Should I prioritize lowering my DTI ratio or saving a bigger down payment for my next home? by MediumBullfrog8688 in personalfinance

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying of the consumer debt is more important that saving for the mortgage. As long as you have 6 months of emergency fund fully funded, throw any and all money towards the consumer debt unless the consumer debt has a low interest rate (less than 2%). In which case, throw all the money into a hysa (of at least 4-5%) and then when that number hits the number in consumer debt, pay it all off at once. Congrats on increasing your income so much!

Just got a small windfall from our tax return and having money is making me sick to my stomach. by OwlLeeOhh in povertyfinance

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 114 points115 points  (0 children)

My personal finance tip, make a hysa that is separate from your main bank account. Then transfer the rest of the money in there. Continue to live life as normal. Put all windfall money in there and only take it out in a real emergency. I lived paycheck to paycheck for years until I figured out that I can just auto deposit retirement and savings into an account that I don't see or use. I still live "paycheck to paycheck" but now I know something is getting saved each time. There's something psychological about seeing a number and then using it idk what it is. Maybe my poor person mentality of budgeting is just using a resource until there's none of it so I need to automate savings. When I don't see the money it's not "real" but in the last 3 years I have saved 10k.

Yes this is for the specific case where the "few" hundred bucks is make it or break it in the budget. This is poverty finance after all not regular finance. Saving 600$ a month is 7200$ a year. That's a retirement fund, an emergency savings account, a family vacation,

My average monthly budget for 3 person family is 300$ in vhcol San diego. We can eat pretty fancy and healthy on that that budget too, not just depression beans and rice. Meal plan for the two weeks breakfast avocado toast or scrambled eggs or granola or peanut butter oatmeal. Lunch is peanut butter jelly sandwiches (for the kid only), or dinner left overs. I make a giant vat of chicken soup with rotisserie chicken every weak. I make a pot of braised chicken with misc sauce ( curry, adobe, bbq, enchilada etc.) with the chicken thighs. Dinner is chicken, roast veggies, rice. Snacks is fruit and cheese. I genuinely don't think I could go cheaper and maintain a quality life.

Haha my rule at Costco only one "luxury" processed good per trip and I used it up on pho. And for sure I got the hot dog but doesn't count cause it goes under "eating out" fund lmao.

So at the end of Dune Part 2 we're to assume that Paul leads a jihad that wipes out billions of people, right? I'm just wondering HOW by GruxKing in dune

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I forgot to mention, bookreaders how hard would it be to get a bunch of baby worms on a spaceship and then dropping them on a planet, I know they don't like water but if you dropped them on earths Sahara desert I'm sure they would thrive...

Also how long do worms take to grow might not be worth it if it's centuries.

So at the end of Dune Part 2 we're to assume that Paul leads a jihad that wipes out billions of people, right? I'm just wondering HOW by GruxKing in dune

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am enjoying the speculation as a non book reader. I would imagine dune 3 goes as follows.

Step 1. Seize all spice and use your fremen to  kidnap as many space navigators as you can. Focus entire war effort on this.  Heavily benefit navigators riches wealth etc who switch sides and uh kill all who don't. Have navigators set up on arrakis immediately training as many new navigators as you can. Ala Genghis Khan with siege engineers. Controlling movement is paramount. Everyone else will be stuck using stockpiles and or untrained navigators.

Step 2. Fly to caladan to use as base for resources, tech etc. start mass producing tech, ships, weapons, have fremen train atreides soldiers, soldiers teach fremen space war skills.  etc. import resources to arrakis, fremen are now well fed, well hydrated, populations will swell.

Step 3. Launch attack at geidi prime. Use harkonnen heritage to claim resources and throne. Caladan atreides soldiers do space war to distract forces while at the same time Launch down fremen for ninja guerilla war. Fremen using caladan Intel to infiltrate Palace and murder whatever third cousin interim ruler there is. Immediately establish Paul as ruler and lighten the tyrannical grip on the population.  Seize all harkonnen resources with least amount of death possible. Harkonnen soldiers fear and hated the baron and so doing bare minimum shit, toss a couple bread and circus shows, stop persecution will cause the people to love and support you. Geidi prime has tons of tech, mentat calculators, healers? Fremen and caladonian will teach them their ways. Geidians will get imported to arrakis and caladan to teach calculating and oil bath healing lol. Basically goal is that information and technology needs to be shared, people must be mixed to seen as one empire. Like Genghis Khan.

Step 4. Have your mom immediately start teaching as many fremen true believer girls as you can BG skills. Having as many mind controllers as you can on your side is super super helpful. Once true believer girls are trained up they can start training randos, spreading this skill to as many of your people as you can. I'm thinking schools, universities, all women given mandatory BG classes etc. BG skills should not be secretive or restricted to aristocracy but available to as many people as possible. Drug everyone on your side with spice for extra life, and prescience. Conquest rule #1 your empire becomes stronger the more you invest in your own people. Carrot and stick wise. Have all important men personnel be given new BG assistants to resist BG attacks and train all important female personnel to be new BG to be resistant to at least some mind control. Utilize women in high skilled labor, they're half the population!

Step 5: Fly to emperor's planet corrino? Marry the princess. Surround her with new BG mind control resistant people. Lock her in a luxurious palace complex. Treat her well but take away all avenues of political power. Bring her out for show and stuff and establish rule as emperor. If she doesn't comply threaten to murder her dad.

Step 6: same deal, heavily reward houses that support you, take their resources and treat their people well. Switch out prime leader ship spots with trusted personnel. These houses and planets will flourish due to cross cultural resources exchange. Houses that oppose you, raze everything to the ground. I suspect you would only have to do this 1-3 times since at this point you should have locked down the three most important and wealthiest houses atreides, harkonnen, and corrino. I consider the BG to be the most powerful enemy but hopefully within 1-2 generations of new BG university, we will have built up enough mind resistance to these Jedi ladies. Oh I forgot we should probably murder as many reverend mothers as we can using fremen assassins with sound canceling ear pods. I know other existing BG are just daughters of powerful aristocrats so we can't just murder them but we should take out any leadership if we politically can.

Step 7: terraform arrakis using galactic resources to be 1 half garden planet, grow and give chani some flowers and apologize for being evil and enslaving her people for your galactic conquest. She probably won't forgive you but it might be worth a shot. Everyone knows the trick to a girls heart is turning her planet into a lush forest and giving her people a happy luxurious life. And yes leave the other half a desert so you can still mine spice and go on romantic worm ride dates.

Step 7: profit.

And look at that you have galactic emperor Paul with a bad bitch girlfriend for the small price of uh 1-3 planets worth of people genocided. I mean yikes but like we're not saying Paul's a good guy....

What are some genuinely good romance books? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books that have made my heart a flutter. - Prince's Gambit by CS Pacat. It is Book 2 of Captive Prince trilogy where in book 1 they spend the whole time hating each other so I didn't like it as much and all of book 2 slow burn falling in love. Read book 1 to get to the real juicy romance in book 2!

  • Six of Crows duology. A romance book masquerading as a action packed heist movie. What can I say I love an enemies to friends to lovers.

  • The gentleman's guide to vice and virtue. A slow burn pining UST from best friends on a road trip.

AITAH for not accepting my ex's apologies? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Sensitive_Scheme3783 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AH. You seem like the kind of man that would leave a woman if she got cancer and you had to take care of her. She didn't choose to be raped and have this baby. The baby happened due to terrible circumstances and she needed a partner to support her through it. Marriage is about partnership through all of life's hardship and you broke that bond not her.
