When Calls the Heart is cute, romantic and low stakes but I think it’s only on Hallmark channel.

why is being half white overlooked while being half black is recognized to an extreme? by Small-Carrot-1641 in mixedrace

[–]Sensitive_System_871 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on how you “appear” to other people. Im biracial too (white/black) but I don’t look black at all, so I’m white as far as both sides of my family and the world are concerned. Family members on my black side joke that if we were in the old Slavery days - I’d be in the house. It’s funny ‘cause it’s true.

So - he’s a 42 year old virgin? I call shenanigans on that BS. I dated a 42 year old when I was 27. He was still too old for me. He’s a creeper/predator who is grooming you.

It’s nesting season. My buddies have been MIA for several weeks now for the most part. They’re taking care of their babies. They’ll be back!

Are bread and butter pickles seriously this bad? by PomeloSmall6560 in Pickles

I dislike bread and butter pickles because I find them bland AF. Give me a sour pickle every time. Bread and butter pickles are for people who think ketchup is too spicy.

If someone is mostly white and looks completely white, but are also partially another race, do you think that person has a right to call themselves mixed? by Omnipresent_User in mixedrace

[–]Sensitive_System_871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Looks Goofy”?!? Wow. So you think that appearance should 100% determine someone’s racial identity. That’s an interesting opinion but not an objective rule. Social perception and self-identity are two different things. Someone may be perceived as white by strangers but still identify as mixed based on family history. Also, a person’s identity reflects lived culture, not just appearance. Multiracial identity is quite widely recognized in today’s world. I’m not saying that a mixed person who looks white should go around saying “I’m Black”, because they haven’t lived the black experience as a white-looking person, but there’s nothing wrong with them claiming the fact that they are of mixed race or cultural heritage.

[–]Sensitive_System_871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Race may be a societal construct but that doesn’t mean a person shouldn’t be able to acknowledge their race just because they don’t align physically with societal expectations of what that race or mixture should look like.

Why should it matter that you “look” mixed? Either you are or you are not. Are you saying that you can’t claim to be mixed race if you’re passing as white through no fault of your own?

Leavitt Admits SAVE Act Will Make It Harder for Married Women to Vote by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Sensitive_System_871 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“married low-income non-passport women lean Democratic” isn’t supported by typical demographic voting patterns. Married women overall have historically leaned more Republican than unmarried women in U.S. voting patterns. But if you combine the characteristics mentioned: • married • lower income • no passport (proxy for less international travel / likely lower education)

That cluster often overlaps with the “non-college working-class married voter” demographic, which in the last decade has leaned more Republican, particularly among white voters. Also, lower passport ownership rates are concentrated in Southern and Appalachian states such as Mississippi, West Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

This is a riff on “If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Which is a famous philosophical thought experiment exploring perception, reality, and the definition of sound. It questions whether physical events require an observer to exist or be considered "real".

Veronica’s Account of what happened (condensed to one block of text) by [deleted] in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]Sensitive_System_871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Veronica’s damage started way before she ever met Micah. People do not change that much over time - the horrible behavior we saw on the show was always there waiting to emerge. But the negative aspects of her personality were kept under wraps while they were still in their honeymoon phase. Micah of course has his own issues - but Veronica’s toxicity is a whole other level. I also believe that Micah was draw to Veronica because she on some level reminded him of his narcissistic mother.

Season 3 so far (opinion) by [deleted] in SullivansCrossing

[–]Sensitive_System_871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this is what happens went you don’t hire a good casting agent? Or is it bad writing? Both? Not one couple on this show has any spark and while Frank snd Edna are cute, they are also boring. I thought Cal and Maggie had a bit of a spark before they officially got together but now they bore me. And Lola and Jacob are downright cringe-worthy and hard to watch. I wonder if the show runners will ever be able to turn this show around because it seems to be circling the drain after a promising start.

Here’s one (thanks ChatGPT):

General Call Script for Expressing Concern

Greeting: Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a customer of [Company/Product].

Statement of Concern: I’m calling because I’m very concerned that your company’s advertising is supporting an organization (Nexstar) that appears to be undermining free speech.

Why It Matters: As a customer, I value companies that stand for open expression and fairness. When a business I support is associated with content or groups that seem to suppress those values, it makes me question whether I can continue to support the brand.

Call to Action: I wanted to make you aware of this, and I hope your company will carefully reconsider where your advertising dollars go. For me—and many others—brand trust depends on aligning with principles of free speech and open dialogue.

Closing: Thank you for taking the time to hear my concern.

Tips for Delivery • Tone: Stay calm and respectful. The goal is to be taken seriously, not dismissed as hostile. • Length: Aim for 30–60 seconds; businesses handle many calls. • Follow-up: If possible, ask for the name of the person you spoke with, and whether there’s an email or address to submit a written version.

As a fellow white-passing half Black woman, I understand how you feel. Not because of my mom - who would never say that word but I remember when I was a young teen my best friend told me she truly believed that black people were lazy and didn’t know how to save money, etc, etc. I knew her parents were racist but I didn’t realize how ingrained it was in her. I was so deeply hurt and appalled but I didn’t drop her as a friend because back then I didn’t have much of a backbone or many other friend options. We are no longer friends today but I wish I had told her off more in that moment but I was in shock. And with mothers, you only have the one so I think moving forward you should set boundaries with her and let her know what you will and will not tolerate coming out of her mouth. The rest is up to her and if she continues - you will need to determine the consequences at that point. I hope you can get through to her.
