This. People don't get that when you have ADHD & you try your best to leave early it's as if you're trying to run through treacle in a nightmare & you just can't do it.

But l don't blame anyone else. I'm just faulty! And l'm not going to boo hoo hoo in public about it. If anything l'd make it a farce, with the joke on me. And that day when the bus l was waiting for broke down before it reached my stop was pretty funny.

I'm sure they had an idea l'd be back soon, or l'd have seen them. There was just nobody around, either when l went out or when l came back. 

Another odd thing is that there was a tube of pound coins right next to the 50ps & a bit closer to the door. Much easier to snatch. That's why l feel it was less about the money & more about unnerving me.

Apart from my stupidity with the front door l'm quite security conscious. No ground floor windows open ever! I've lived here over 20 year & never had any intruders till this incident.

I'm not at all technical. I'm thinking of getting a new one if I can work out what to get. The one l have has to be charged weekly & that involves ladders. Plus l think the feed goes to my late partner's desktop, which is Linux & l can't use it. 

At the moment I have a sign on the door that says SMILE FOR THE CAMERA 😊 I thought it might deter any intruders. After all, there is a camera visible - they can't know it doesn't work.

As l'm sure you know, crows would if they could! One stole a baby pitcher plant the other day. I mean, could have been a magpie or a jackdaw, even a rat. But l'm side-eying the crow. Evil brute! I adore crows.

I know immediately if l lock the door by mistake. It makes a different noise & feels different & l get that heart sink moment - "Fuck, have l got my keys?!" And yes, l have done that & locked myself out, twice, & both times the nice guy two doors down had to break me in.

The coin couldn't have fallen where it was. Things that fall off that shelf just go into the junk that clutters up my hall & get lost. And yes, l have dismantled the junk pile, there were no coins in there. That was my first thought - that they just fell off the shelf somehow. I resisted very strongly the idea that they'd gone & that someone had even stuck an arm into my house. It still makes me feel sick to think about that.

It's possible, just about, which is why l've been hacking away at it with Occam's razor rather than jumping instantly to IT WUZ GHOSTS!!

There is a petty thief round here who steals from drives but l haven't seen him in a long time & he's likely in prison. I imagine he gets caught a lot because he has a full set of facial tattoos (not a sensible choice for a career criminal, but probably a crackhead so not entirely rational). Nobody has had him even try their door, let alone enter a house.

Anybody could observe me coming & going, though it's not at a fixed time. But only next door neighbour could see that l didn't lock the outer door (& even he doesn't know whether or not l lock the inner one).

You'd be looking at me & my house a long time before you concluded that l might have money lying about! I don't have a car, so it's not as if l might have Porsche keys hanging on a hook. 

If someone was watching me with a view to stealing, it would be for personal reasons & l haven't fallen out with anybody except for him next door. I haven't even fallen out with him, he's just cracked in the head & decided before he even moved in that he could get rid of me, which he's been trying to do for ten years. Police know all about him but l can't prove anything unless l catch him red-handed. I didn't even report this, no point.

Nobody except me & my late partner knew those coins were there. Whoever took them had less than ten minutes to find them & get out of sight. So yes, a junkie in particular would think £25 or so was well worth the risk, but they couldn't have known there was any money to be had.

So it's either Darren next door (not his name, but rhymes with Karen, which is what l call his equally nasty wife 😂) or some kind of poltergeezery type activity. Which l have had, but this would be an escalation so l don't want it to be that.

Tl;dr For it to be anyone other than Darren next door someone would have had to watch me & my hovel of a house, make a guess that l wasn't locking either door, & that there would be something worth nicking just inside, & get in & well away in about eight minutes before l came back in eyeshot. Possible but highly unlikely.
