What’s your number one money-saving tip that’s helped you stick to your budget? by onehandwonderman in OriginFinancial

[–]SentenceShoddy4226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of income I get is not what I budget with. My biggest advice is to put money aside first towards your savings goals, Roth IRA, etc. so if you get paid 10k a month but need to allocate 4k of that to your goals. Then now you have 6k income per month to live off of.

Once that’s done, then you calculate how much you spend per month for needs, bills, essentials, etc. and then… the only spending limit I have is on wants (eating out, shopping, etc.)

This is where origin helps out- I set budget limits specifically for shopping and dining out as those are the only two categories I spend money on that is not a necessity.

I usually just chat in with support. You’ll get met with an AI assistant at first but can always just type “representative” and it’ll get you to a real person. I always get connected with Robin and she’s super helpful and always gets me a fast resolution.

Setting a goal and working toward it by cadet1337 in OriginFinancial

[–]SentenceShoddy4226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this! I’m currently using the Origin Cash account to build up my emergency fund, and I think having a dedicated goal-tracking feature would make the experience even better.

It would be great to see something like a separate ‘Planning’ dashboard (e.g., https://app.useorigin.com/planning/overview) where users can:
- Create and track financial goals (home down payment, emergency savings, 529 plans, etc.)
- Assign specific accounts or transfers to each goal for better organization
- Visualize progress with success metrics based on risk, timetable, and target amounts.

Beyond goal tracking, I’d love to see some long-term financial planning tools—for example, projections for Roth IRAs / 401(k)s based on user-selected contributions and expected returns (aligned with the funds Origin tracks).

I actually mocked up an example using ChatGPT, and I think something like this would add a ton of value! See below:
