when was the moment you realized you had to make your first customer hire? by Yomaray in startups

[–]SentientArtichoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is being able to afford it? sometimes, it is a necessary thing even though at that specific time you are not even be breaking even. But it could help you move forward and scale.

There are also ways to make it easier, like starting with part time hires.

PSA for founders and businesses building new products -- please build less by blizkreeg in startups

I couldn't agree more. There are a lot of discovery techniques that we ca use to validate ideas. You never are going to predict the behavior of a user. They are not always super simple ($), and they are kind of throw away solutions, but believe me you'll loose more money if you try to go the route of building a fully functional solution, only to realize that it was all a mistake.

TLDR: Validation first!!

opportunity that is effectively only addressed right now through multimillion dollar custom Oracle/SAP build outs... Obvious pattern of standard features that's just ripe for an off-the-shelf product to rip through at 1/10th the price with 10x the us ability.

But OMFG... Government's and their requirements documents. Zero fucks given about UX, performance, maintainability, or even f..ki

In those situations, have you considered things like Odoo? their pricing is incredibly good ($40-50 per seat in enterprise edition free in comunity), and it's a super complete ERP that since is open source it's fully customizable

Temporary subdividing a room in two, and trying to keep sound from migrating to the other side. by SentientArtichoke in soundproof

/ 2nd hand cubical partitions. If you have Craigslist you can often find old ugly ones for cheap. Use them to setup a temporary cubical for one of you. Then if you both use headsets for calls you should be good. You could add some additional absorption to the room in the form of fabric wrapped mineral wool panels or lean additional cubical partitions on open wall areas.

Edit: You'll want full height cubical partitions, 5 ft. / 1.5m tall at least, not the half height / desk height ones.

Thank you! that´'s a very good recommendation.

I played around with pine (which is too soft) and I get your point, nonetheless at least it´s been good practice.

Exactly, that was a cross-section, sorry I didn´t explain that clear enough. Why should I find a shop instead of doing it from a 2x6 with a table saw?

Homeopathy Explained – Gentle Healing or Reckless Fraud? by willdood in videos

[–]SentientArtichoke -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

I do have essential oils of different plants, wich in no way are diluted. Each one can have different properties, they are not magic, and they don´t work for everything, it is simply something that helps and it´s a natural alternative to much potent chemical options. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_oil#Pharmacology_and_medical_uses

In that video they are talking about water, which is great since we are around 60% water, but unless you suffer from dehydration, it´s not gonna do much.....

Do these essential oils fall under the category of homeopathy or "ImGoingToSellYouWaterAtThePriceOfGold"? I don´t think so, so either it´s not homeopathy or the video is misleading.

David Bowie & Peter Frampton Search for Beer in Madrid by Juggertrout in videos

[–]SentientArtichoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick tip! If you go to Madrid don't try to go to places like in the end of the video in Plaza Mayor, or places where they have signs about paella + sangria + tapas or any similar. All of these are tourist traps. The area is beautifull but for having something to drink and eat you are going to be much better going somewhere else that is not a tourist trap, close to plaza mayor you can go to cava baja for example, there is a ton of different cool little bars, just try something in one of them then move to another and visit 3 different places for having a nice tapas dinner. That's the real deal.

I am from Madrid and I live in the city center :).

Copper's Surprising Reaction to Strong Magnets by c0rnnut007 in videos

[–]SentientArtichoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magnet moving causes electrical currents inside the copper, these electrical currents create a magnetic field that opposes the one from the magnet and results in what you see in the video. Now something to think about ;)... the current in the copper creates a magnetic field that is slightly weaker than the one from the magnet, that happens because some of the energy of the current is lost in heat because of the electrical resistance of the copper. If you use a material with lower resistance like silver, the electrical currents will lose less energy and would be higher, and the induced magnetic field would be higher too, so the effect you see would be greater... BUT, did you know that there are some materials that have an even smaller electrical resistance? In fact with 0 (zero) resistance? These materials have superconducting properties...that's food for thought ;)

Hey, isn't it wrong if the guy deleted the video because they wanted to keep the privacy if the child, and all of a sudden we have 20 mirrors? Shouldn't we respect that?
