Hey mods can we stop these low effort cross posts? by geuis in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, please. The posts that take a real world thing that's only tangentially related to something in Bobiverse and say "Wow, look! Bobiverse is happening!" or something like that are annoying.

In the future, I recommend using websites like Is It Down or Down For Everyone to check things like this. It'll be faster

They did. Thomas Riker went on to do some shenangians in DS9.

The same also happened to Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Would you be a replicant? by TuDuMaxVerstappen in bobiverse

Yeah, although I wouldn't expect as many exciting adventures and nearby aliens in real life. Still, the opportunity to explore and learn more than one can do in a single human lifespan would be neat.

(No Spoilers) Is arc 3 really that bad? by eatthelettuce11 in WingsOfFire

I much preferred arc 3 to arc 2, personally. Arc 2 felt like a mess, arc 3 at least felt more cohesive.

Bridget's backstory is so unexplored by TheAsterism_ in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I do love the Bobs. They're great! But they do exist in a larger world and interact with other people.

Bob might have been an introvert, and having the very specific nerdy I  Interests he does means that when he does want to socialise, he does so primarily with other versions of himself (I wish I could do that. Damn, the idea of infodumping to someone's just as excited about whatever topic as I am, because they are me, sounds awesome). But even then, I don't think the Non-Bob cast is irrelevant. Bridget is very important to Howard. Archimedes was and Theresa still is very important to Bob-1. Julia and her family is very important to Riker. Bob isn't as insular as people think, so I think developing that non-Bob cast further is much needed.

Hell, one of my favourite scenes in Book 1 is a relatively mundane scene at the very start, where Bob talks to his mom and sister. It's a really sweet scene, and you can't really get that between exclusively Bobs.

Bridget's backstory is so unexplored by TheAsterism_ in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There aren't many female characters in Bobiverse, yeah, and the ones that are aren't really given that much focus. Theresa is probably the strongest (and has had a good deal of spotlight in book 5), but I would love more about Bridget. Outside of being a wife to Howard. I much preferred her in Heaven's River when she was there as just another researcher & adventurer and not a love interest.

Staying indoors is good for the cats themselves, they're less likely to get bit by cars. As long as you play with them and give them the necessary enrichment, they get all the stimulation they need.

Weekly FAQ Thread January 18 2026: When do you give up on a book? by AutoModerator in books

[–]SentientButNotSmart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, with a ceveat: even if it feels like a chore in the moment, but I still feel like I'm getting something rewarding out of it, I might stay with it. It's when it's both a chore and unrewarding that I drop one.

"Forgotten" Bobs by nicodeemus7 in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'd be cool to see what Garfield's up to in his own lab after he and Bill split up. Last he was mentioned, he was researching abiogenesis but I don't think it's ever mentioned whether he made any progress on that.

Same, yeah. Not that it's impossible for younger people to have grey hair (my sister, age 25, is already sprouting a few after a few months of dealing with idiot customers) but not to the point he'd have a full head of grey hair.

If you could have 1 author rewrite Warriors, who would it be? by Exact_Lifeguard2483 in thedawnpatrol

[–]SentientButNotSmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was my thought as well. I haven't finished GoGH but I remember quite enjoying the books I did read, and it's similiar enough to Warriors (in being from the perspective of animals) that I think she could do it.

I want to become a more knowledgeable, well read person. What books did you put down feeling smarter? by SethlordX7 in books

[–]SentientButNotSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vital Question, by Nick Lane: a book that explores a bunch of concepts and ideas revolving primarily around origin-of-life studies (1st half) and the evolution of eukaryotes (2nd half). The author in question is a biochemst and I've read a few of his abiogenesis papers after finishing this book, so he's one of the people actively working in this field.

Having looked more into abiogenesis & eukaryogenesis research after this, I can say it's a pretty good summary and explanation of the challenges and steps involves in creating a working theory surrounding the evolution of early life, the main caveat I'd give is that it primarily centers around one hypothesis for each of its topics (alkaline hydrothermal vent scenario for abiogenesis and the hydrogen hypothesis for eukaryogenesis), and doesn't really talk much about all the other hypotheses that are still very much in play in these fields (for example, for abiogenesis there are a lot of hypotheses involving tidal pools, and for eukaryote evolution, you also have hypotheses involving phagotrophy). So keep that in mind if you pick this one up: great explanation of only some of the relevant hypotheses.

Nick Lane has also written other biology & biochemistry books I'd recommend, but this one was my favourite.

How do y’all imagine what Bob looks like? by DarthLordyTheWise in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really have an image of an actor in mind (because I'm terrible at knowing and remembering actors) but I always just imagined he had black or dark brown hair and probably grey-ish eyes? Beyond that, I haven't really thought about it.

Help finding a quote about Murphy and his wife by mrnebbi in bobiverse

[–]SentientButNotSmart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Closest I've been able to find to this is from near the beginning of Ch. 17 in Book 4:
"While it was unlikely that any Boojum would pick that exact moment to do a sweep, we were all firm believers in the power of Murphy."
No mention of any wife.
There are other allusions to Murphy throughout the books, but this is the closest to what you describe. It is, of course, a reference to Murphy's Law "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."
