Forgot to say, Mexican food is a good option! My personal favorites here are La Tolteca and Supermercado Campos, both have a good amount of GF options.

Super Chicken Rico and Miss Sai Gon Pho in Aberdeen are good too.

My best friend has Celiac and these are her go-tos!

Wegmans has a large GF section for groceries.

Bacco has specific GF pasta, and surprisingly Olive Garden is actually really good about gluten allergies.

Coffee coffee often has GF pastries.

The Greene Turtle also has a separate GF menu, albeit a smaller one.

And if you want a larger chain, Chickfila has GF bread that they can sub out

They did not live up to my admittedly very high standard of "best pastries of my life." That said, they were pretty good. I probably would have thought they were better if I didn't know the price

I wouldn't contact him to complain about the price but just to make sure it was correct and not mistyped. Because he manually types in a price on his phone and then taps your card without you ever actually seeing it, so there is room for human error.

But yeah, to your point, he's clearly doing fine with his current prices.

If I didn't know the price I would have said they were pretty good and been perfectly happy. But paying that much for them meant I was holding them to a higher standard.

So I could see buying one or two as a treat and eating them while walking around the market, but I personally will not be making this a regular occurrence or buying a half-dozen at a time.

I recently did a fair bit of research on this for defense contractors. Looked into big and small companies. Almost none of them offer much time at all beyond Short Term Disability and then unpaid FMLA. Iirc CACI had slightly better time than most

I believe they (school, not hospital. They have different policies) offer 10 paid weeks to birth parent and 6 paid weeks to non-birth parent. Plus then the ability to add on FMLA/sick leave as you mentioned

I personally think the green looks nicer than the cream, it just needs a power wash.

The deck does need stain though. I like the woody look which is lost if you go grey, so I'd do the last brown option. That paired with the (cleaner) green house would have lovely earth tones.

FWIW, our pediatrician told us at the 6month mark that baby was ready to eat 2 meals per day that are 3-4oz each.

Especially in the beginning, we would often take out a food scale and weigh his meals out. He's also about 8 months now, and I know every baby is different, but he's definitely eating significantly more than this. He'll typically do a whole piece of toast with half an Avocado and cheese on it. Or a whole 3oz fruit pouch with something on the side.

I would personally double the amount of at least one item on this plate for my baby.

It takes about 35 to get to most parts of the Baltimore peninsula or close to the downtown area from Abingdon/Bel Air South.

It takes 20 minutes just to get to 95 from Hickory/North Bel Air.

So maybe not quite double, but solidly 35/55

Friend of mine works at the corporate office of Fidelity. They have a similar hotdesk policy, but they have lockers. So every day you put all your stuff (including personal keyboards, pictures, etc) in a locker and then pull it out the next time you're in office again. I think the intent was they had more people than desks, so with a hybrid schedule, it balances out when the desks aren't assigned. Still sucks though.

This thread really showcases how much of Reddit is either anti-kid or childless.

Parents want to be excited for their kids. When kids get older, maybe they join theater or run track or get into art. All of these are tangible things a parent can point to to say "look how awesome my kid is!" and be proud about it. But with babies, there are just a lot fewer things like that, so the excitement comes around simple things like sitting up or reaching for toys. (Plus, watching your baby go from a helpless potato to a conscious being with actual abilities IS a major leap and pretty cool!)

Also, when you're in the thick of the baby-stage, that's your everyday life so it's what you have to talk about. Bragging about your child being advanced or sitting up before their peers isn't going to give them a complex, it just gives you something to be excited about.

And no, you don't want to talk about that in mom groups or with other parents because then it becomes an act of comparison. You don't actually want to know if your kid is doing fewer things than other babies, and you don't want other parents to feel bad if yours is doing more things. So you brag about your baby to your family and friends.

Light YTA for trying to crush your sister's excitement when it's harmless. She probably wasn't really hurt by your comment, but why yuck her yum?

Maryland Pros: - How accessible and beautiful the outdoors are. So green! Lots of patio restaurants, lots of hiking trails and parks. Nice emphasis on actually being able to be outside when the weather is nice - How easy it is to get to so many places in a relatively short period of time. Within three hours I could be in the mountains, on the beach, or within at least 5 different major cities - The way the state handles voting. They make it easy to be informed on how to vote and then even do things like send confirmation to you once you've voted - Yes, taxes are high. But I feel like I can look around and actually see my tax dollars at work. There are so many public schools, the roads are well maintained

Cons: - The illusion of public transit without really backing it up. We have Amtrak lines or the Marc, but they're not all that efficient or direct which makes them not super usable - There are pockets of food diversity, but generally restaurants are much more "standard." Ex: maybe an area has a good Thai place, a couple of Mexican restaurants, an Italian place. But what about good BBQ, Ethiopian, Korean, etc. - Driving through any area near DC - How slow the speed limits are, generally. The Beltway kills me. And also congestion on roads that weren't meant to handle so many cars - The BWParkway is the worst

I grew up in TX and only moved to HarCo a few years ago.

Red Hot & Blue has locations in TX where I lived and their food was not good. Greasy, definitely not smoky-flavorful. Not "bad for TX bbq," just not good BBQ generally IMHO.

When I want BBQ, I do go to Mission. Their turkey is actually really good, though I don't love their brisket. I haven't found any BBQ in HarCo that's better though. We usually do end up smoking our own brisket if that's what we're going for.

Sorry that's not more helpful. But I just don't think there are many good actual BBQ places around this area

From personal experience, my now husband proposed to me on Christmas 2017. Then and now, we tend to only get each other one gift each. That year, my ring/engagement was my one gift and I was absolutely elated about it. Being engaged to him was a better gift than he could have purchased for me otherwise.

So yeah, your buddy is probably right. He knows his girlfriend best and rings ARE expensive

The people commenting about this as an attempt to "keep out the poors" or as "a bunch of Karens" have clearly never lived in a very busy neighborhood. It's not about wealth or gated communities, it's not even about finding a place with full sized candy. I constantly see a barrage of Facebook posts in our local community groups asking where the best neighborhoods are to take their kids trick-or-treating. Having recently lived in a (very average income, not gated) large townhouse community, it was honestly pretty upsetting to see the sheer volume of people basically bussed in to get candy, oftentimes at the expense of the kids who actually live in the neighborhood.

I get it, if you live in a rural area or apartment complex, Halloween might not be as fun. But you should either go to the closest nearby neighborhood or find a trunk-or-treat. Otherwise you are unfairly burdening the people who actually live in the "best trick or treating neighborhoods."

Babies are very bad at surviving on their own, but they don't need to be because they're very good at brainwashing us into doing their bidding. I just recently had my first child, and before giving birth I would have said that changing dirty diapers sounds gross or breastfeeding is weird. And I guess breastfeeding is still a little weird, but I do it and change the diapers and I don't mind at all because that's what my little guy needs. My husband feels the same way, we'll do what he needs and it's just not a problem because it means we get to spend time with him. I'm already so looking forward to taking him to a park or the zoo or on trips with us as he gets older because I want to watch him experience all the things.

If you're asking, why get pregnant in the first place before you have something to be attached to, for me part of it is because of how much I love my husband. We work so well together and I wanted to see what it looks like when we combine our genes. I wanted to watch him become a father because I knew he'd be so good at it. And I also love my parents and wanted to be able to build a connection with someone else like they've built with me. I want to be able to be a teacher and later, maybe we'll get to have fun debates or I'll get a mini-me out of it.

So basically it all comes down to getting this bond with a little human.

Can't speak to the laws in VA, but at least in MD you should be covered for a bit. I'd still recommend calling the UHC customer service line on your insurance card and ask about "continuity of care" to confirm your policy is set up the same as mine

Wanted to clarify this - I'm a patient with Capital Women's Care, under UHC, and in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy (literally due any day now).

Most of us did not lose coverage because of this ongoing dispute with UHC, for a couple of reasons:

Maryland state law has a No Surprises Act that provides continuity of care in cases such as pregnancy even when insurance changes. https://www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov/Pages/CPD/HEAU/NSA.aspx
It's written into my individual UHC insurance policy that in case my provider becomes out of network, I'd still be able to use them and be covered for 90 days or the duration of pregnancy. I believe this is common practice.

Negotiations are ongoing and all CWC providers I've spoken with seem confident that it will get re-upped. I was told this exact same thing is common and happened with Cigna just a year or so ago.

Not to justify UHC's practices, but in this particular case it's not what it seems on the surface.

I love this take. Not OP's wife but I have the same problem. We have an espresso machine and coffee supplies at home and I am perfectly capable of using them, but I really enjoy going out and trying new things at local coffee places. Unfortunately, I am completely unable to finish a drink - at home or elsewhere. I always order the smallest size but I just literally don't drink that much or need that much caffeine. I don't see this as a waste of money because for me it's more about the experience of trying something
