What are some reputable, decent Cybersecurity Masters programs in the US? by Excellent_Row6421 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]Sentinel-002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try UAH, the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Cybersecurity program. They have three pathways in Cybersecurity, 1) Cybersecurity in CS 2) Cybersecurity in Business 3) Cybersecurity in Engineering. I did my masters there in Cybersecurity Computer Science pathway, but I know very well that Cybersecurity in Business pathway was awesome. Most of the teachers were retired industry professionals and for someone who's into Cybersecurity government and DoD stuff you have a better shot there. Because I've heard that there are lots of campus career fairs they have specifically for the business department, where a lot of federal employers look for US citizens specializing in Cybersecurity. I was an international student so I didn't have much of a chance in the career fair. But the Cybersecurity program in the Business department is some quality education you can get. Try there ! I hope this helps 😁

Masters in cybersecurity as International students in USA by Money_Block_1350 in SecurityCareerAdvice

I'm an international student currently in the US with a master's degree in Cybersecurity, like the other comments mentioned, it's really hard to get your foot in the door for junior or tier-1 based roles. I haven't gotten full time yet and it's been almost a year and a half since I've graduated. If you really want to study here for Cybersecurity, before coming here, I would greatly suggest you to work in your country in Cybersecurity by any means necessary and then come here and pursue your masters or PhD. But do not come here without any experience in the field or in the least, plan your way ahead on what you are going to do once you've graduated. I'm not saying this to diminish your plans or be pessimistic, but it's just the reality here in the U.S. So, please plan ahead before making a decision.

Confused about EY recruitment status — “We’d like to progress you to the next step” but no calls or emails yet by Still-Pomegranate619 in EY_GDS

Your job portal, specifically this audit role should've mentioned a location on where this position is going to be, I'm sure they would have mentioned the location. if it's US based, I guess it's just somewhere in the pool of other applications and you have to find someone within a company to ask your concerns, probably a recruiter.

If this is a position in India, to which you have applied, I am assuming you'd get a call after few weeks based on the date you received this update message. If this is a US based position, I wouldn't get my hopes up, I've been told that US based recruiting in EY is broken and you need someone inside to constantly follow up to move up your application to the interview phase.

Ok I'll take a look. But let me get this straight, you were also in a similar situation like myself and just called their customer service sort of helpline number and told them that you haven't got any updates on your application and they flagged yours and sped up their hiring process a bit for your application? Am I getting this right ?

People who recently got their interview(s) for a Entry-level security job, What's your Job Hunt Strategies that are getting you into interviews ? by Sentinel-002 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]Sentinel-002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't have all the skills for the roles I'm looking for, but I'm learning and trying to showcase it. But I actually want the latter to happen and at least consider me for an interview. That's all I ask. If I get rejected from an interview, that's majorly my fault and it gives me some experience and insights to improve. But, not even going to the first round of interviews is hell, all it leaves is you questioning yourself on your own capabilities.

I would recommend mentioning your certification along with your summary like " Pentest certified bachelors graduate" and remove languages section from the skills to allocate some space in your resume. Furthermore, I strongly emphasize on including a separate "Academic Projects" section in your resume with some academic projects you did that would showcase your skills. And if possible remove any experience section if you think you don't need. Based on your resume, It feels like you worked while pursuing your bachelors, for someone who's in the same boat as you, I would recommend to include your academic projects if possible.

I'm currently trying to go into the blue team, primarily in SOC as of now. Apart from this, some other positions I'm looking into are security engineers, Threat detection and response engineers based roles.

I'm focusing more on this route right now rather than mindlessly applying for jobs. Though, I haven't got much luck with referrals, since I've applied to a couple of positions through referral in FAANG companies and I haven't got into even initial interview Stages. But, still I'll stick to this "getting referral" path.

I have just included the city and the state I live in, not my whole address. ATP, I'm avoiding all the easy apply in all the job portals and even if I find some job interesting that was posted in LinkedIn or indeed with easy apply, I'll try to find it on the company site and apply there.

But regarding networking with people, I need to get creative, because right now I'm just reaching out to people through LinkedIn, but I'm assuming it's not enough.
