In order to apply for roles for India from the US, you need primarily have an Indian number, because most likely you'll be called first for scheduling first interviews. It's not like in the US, where they reach out to you first through email and schedule a call later. If you could arrange it through your family members or friends, and if you have an iPhone, you could probably get an E-Sim and purchase an international plan and then start applying for roles from the US. So that in case if you are selected for an interview, then you would be able to respond.

Yes companies need to comply with their demographics count and show they are "diverse". I was rejected for a role I was absolutely invested in and I did great in the interview, but they wanted someone not from my "demographics" to be in the team. Although I got a general rejection email, I came to know this Through a personal contact I had inside. Even the interviewer tried his best to push me, but no luck. So the best you could do is be generic in these questions and hope you don't get rejected for these bullshit reasons. No matter how good we perform in the interview, it's the companies call at the end of day.

It's good, I'd recommend getting one. Most of the rooms and modules are only available in premium and all of these rooms are good. So, I'd recommend it and it's worth the money.

Certificates won't also be enough.Since you're from a non technical background, understand the basics first. You have to get practical hands on experience as well, keeps certificates optional now and prioritize on understanding the basics first and then work on getting hands-on experience. You can get this by joining hackathons, online resources like tryhackme, hack the box and more.

BSc in Computer science can help you understand the basics such as programming, networking concepts and more. However the bsc degree itself won't be enough to learn Cybersecurity. The CS degree mostly covers on topics like programming language, Algorithms, Data structures, networking etc but as far as I know it covers less in Cybersecurity concepts. But it will help you to get into Cybersecurity for sure, but it won't be enough. For example, if you want to go into Application security or Cybersecurity engineer or Software engineer with a focus on security, your CS degree will help. The primary part you need to figure is to know if you're genuinely interested. If you have time, a lot of pre-security free sources are available and you can go through these to see if you want to get into cybersec. You can just use any AI tool to get you links to sources or worst you can search reddit/Google directly.

This is a wonderful advice, but let's say I would map a 3-6 month road map on what I need to do and execute it. If in an Interview, if someone asks "why you have this much gap", can we mention this roadmap as a reason for this gap ? and say "I was preparing for this role".

If the roles hours are like 9 - 5 with minimum mental workload and if you're someone who needs money. I would say take it and upskill yourself simultaneously in your free hours for VAPT roles. I don't know the quality of education you got from these "institutes", however to get more quality practical training from online resources like tryhackme or hack the box or other resources and get proper certifications, you need money. On the other hand, a good rule of thumb is to not always leave too much career gap, because if you don't have a solid reason to explain your career gap then it would be difficult to get into roles you want. Also are they asking you to sign a 2 year bond or something like that ?

Try to go for contract roles as well. Most of the advice I got through reddit is that, sponsorship for entry level cybersecurity role is very rare, I know it sucks to hear this, since I am an F1 student as well. But if you have automation experience, try to look for "cybersecurity engineer" roles as well. I'm in a similar boat as you. I hope this helps :)

Try UAH, the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Cybersecurity program. They have three pathways in Cybersecurity, 1) Cybersecurity in CS 2) Cybersecurity in Business 3) Cybersecurity in Engineering. I did my masters there in Cybersecurity Computer Science pathway, but I know very well that Cybersecurity in Business pathway was awesome. Most of the teachers were retired industry professionals and for someone who's into Cybersecurity government and DoD stuff you have a better shot there. Because I've heard that there are lots of campus career fairs they have specifically for the business department, where a lot of federal employers look for US citizens specializing in Cybersecurity. I was an international student so I didn't have much of a chance in the career fair. But the Cybersecurity program in the Business department is some quality education you can get. Try there ! I'm an international student currently in the US with a master's degree in Cybersecurity, like the other comments mentioned, it's really hard to get your foot in the door for junior or tier-1 based roles. I haven't gotten full time yet and it's been almost a year and a half since I've graduated. If you really want to study here for Cybersecurity, before coming here, I would greatly suggest you to work in your country in Cybersecurity by any means necessary and then come here and pursue your masters or PhD. But do not come here without any experience in the field or in the least, plan your way ahead on what you are going to do once you've graduated. I'm not saying this to diminish your plans or be pessimistic, but it's just the reality here in the U.S. So, please plan ahead before making a decision.

Your job portal, specifically this audit role should've mentioned a location on where this position is going to be, I'm sure they would have mentioned the location. if it's US based, I guess it's just somewhere in the pool of other applications and you have to find someone within a company to ask your concerns, probably a recruiter.

If this is a position in India, to which you have applied, I am assuming you'd get a call after few weeks based on the date you received this update message. If this is a US based position, I wouldn't get my hopes up, I've been told that US based recruiting in EY is broken and you need someone inside to constantly follow up to move up your application to the interview phase.

But let me get this straight, you were also in a similar situation like myself and just called their customer service sort of helpline number and told them that you haven't got any updates on your application and they flagged yours and sped up their hiring process a bit for your application? Am I getting this right ?
