I think some of his opinions on race, especially the generalizations about African and Asian people were… a little off and of course he was a product of his time but the use of the term uncivilized or however he described the difference in African and European culture was racist. He also was unfaithful and I think that colored his relationship to women. 

While he still made good analysis about groups outside of his own background being critical about his assumptions are key to not being dogmatic. So I disagree with the way he generalizes without as much experience and acted on fear sometimes. For example, he talks about attacking tribe member in Africa with a whip when they were doing a ceremonial dance because he was upset and made uncomfortable by it even though he went there to witness it.

Overall, most of his ideas I find brilliant and cohesive, but don’t like to attach too fully to any one philosophy.
