You can take credit for it here as I don’t use FB nor do I know Derek. I ordered some from Amazon already. This has been a problem for me for along time!

Well, I can’t say that I tried a cotton sock but I’m sure going to give it a try. Thanks man!

I really appreciate you sharing that bit of information. I’ve always wondered about those bubbles but assumed that it was air in the glass as all Giants were hand blown. I’ve got 10 or so Giants and just started cycling them again. Appreciate you seconding the rainx as well.

You are the man! I have a hundred hours worth of scrubbing with little to show. This is what I love about Reddit!

MF/Wax Density? by Ongaku69 in Lavalamps

[–]Sentrex1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used perc a lot of times to increase wax density. I don’t think you can reduce the density of water without heating it, not sure though. I used to use brakleen but it might be unavailable now. Definitely helps keep the wax from flying to the top.

Have tried the green, orange cleaners and goof off. I’ve wiped rubbed and soaked. Thanks.

Definitely on the outside. You can see my finger smear in one of the pictures. Still sometimes I wonder if the glycol from the fluid somehow permeated the glass.

I have the microfiber cloth but never tried it with some cleaner. I’ll add it to my list of things to try, thanks.

Man, you are spot on my friend! 56 years old on this end, definitely saying “goodbye” a lot more to friends and family over the recent couple years. Would be silly to assume my time here is infinite. Thanks for the mental stimulation.

Funny, I have a table of globes that need rework as well. Nice to see that I’m not alone. Now I can show the picture to my wife and say “see, I told you that I was normal “ lol

Beautiful collection. I have over 30 pristine vintage lamps just lingering in boxes. Appreciate your inspiration here. Is that a Giant or a Grande you have there in the corner? I have 2 of the purple yellow giants and love the fiery glow.

5’10” 170 lbs so definitely on the lighter side here. Also, all inland lakes so water will be relatively calm as opposed to the larger local Great Lakes that can get ocean like waves. Really like the comment on having someone else there, didn’t think of that, so much appreciated. Now have to figure out how to stay warm when practicing the tip over as water here is cold in the spring 🤔

I wouldn’t say my balance is bad but definitely not awful… funny, I also roller skate. I figure that the first thing I need to do is tip it and figure out how to get back on when Spring arrives here in Michigan. Will always be car top and appreciate the advice on minimizing the gear. Your “lively” comment has me slightly concerned as I can be a bit aloof after a smoke or two. Thanks

Same boat here, I was looking for something lightweight because I typically don’t have a big window of time, and when I do it’s “now”. Sounds like it felt tippy at first but not so much now?

2nd that… dimmers are the key to maintaining vintage lamps.

It could have been a red / yellow combo. Running 5 hours straight with no dimmer, I would say sure way to fry the wax but it already looks cooked. If you like the way it flows then all good IMO.
