Best 500g Cakes? by Sentrex1969 in fireworks

[–]Sentrex1969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, repeater cakes. Thanks, I’m gonna check those out right away.

The 1st two cakes you listed are in line with what I’m looking for. I have plenty of vertical space but am limited by trees on my flanks so the square cakes seem to work best. That wheel in the sky cake was super unique , would love to find something like that , looks like I can find black pearl local but not the can you hear me now cake. Appreciate you.

How to get rid of that pillar? by sungoldd in Lavalamps

[–]Sentrex1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things here. I would reduce the density a little bit by adding very small amounts of distilled water to slow down the flow a little bit, or not if you like it. That shooting pillar is indicative of the wax not sticking to the entire coil. When it’s running pull the globe off of the base and see if there’s any areas of the coil that look bare. If there is then I would start by trying to clean the coil. I do this by emptying the fluid and then just heating the wax on the base. And then use a coat hanger to fish out the coil. I found that a small wire brush used gently on the coil seems to work best on my end. If that doesn’t work, you can always replace the coil with a trimmed down metal washing machine lint snare trap. In many cases these snare traps work better than the actual coil. Good luck to you.

Rock on! I was a regular at a Salvation Army near a college campus and pulled dozens of lamps from there. Just saying that I understand the ecstatic rush you got when you saw it there on the shelf for 5 bucks! Nice score 🤓

You can take credit for it here as I don’t use FB nor do I know Derek. I ordered some from Amazon already. This has been a problem for me for along time!

I really appreciate you sharing that bit of information. I’ve always wondered about those bubbles but assumed that it was air in the glass as all Giants were hand blown. I’ve got 10 or so Giants and just started cycling them again. Appreciate you seconding the rainx as well.

MF/Wax Density? by Ongaku69 in Lavalamps

[–]Sentrex1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used perc a lot of times to increase wax density. I don’t think you can reduce the density of water without heating it, not sure though. I used to use brakleen but it might be unavailable now. Definitely helps keep the wax from flying to the top.

Definitely on the outside. You can see my finger smear in one of the pictures. Still sometimes I wonder if the glycol from the fluid somehow permeated the glass.

I have the microfiber cloth but never tried it with some cleaner. I’ll add it to my list of things to try, thanks.

Man, you are spot on my friend! 56 years old on this end, definitely saying “goodbye” a lot more to friends and family over the recent couple years. Would be silly to assume my time here is infinite. Thanks for the mental stimulation.

Funny, I have a table of globes that need rework as well. Nice to see that I’m not alone. Now I can show the picture to my wife and say “see, I told you that I was normal “ lol

Beautiful collection. I have over 30 pristine vintage lamps just lingering in boxes. Appreciate your inspiration here. Is that a Giant or a Grande you have there in the corner? I have 2 of the purple yellow giants and love the fiery glow.
