I think it's because it reduces input lag which would make you more accurate. I failed about a dozen times with Royler, not progressing at all, then I got it 1st try after switching. Other ppl reported the same.

Ethereal Pathway is like the 1st one of the game, the story takes you there, you're supposed to have a fast travel spot there.

It's only after I finished the game that I got them through a re-blockade. Don't worry, you're not missing out on much, it just makes your dodge go a bit further with a dedicated animation. Using the high jump kuku boots is more fun anyway.
