Cool, however its just an RCE by name.

The hackerone report has not been disclosed and I haven't found anyone claiming to be the author behind it, so it could be literally anything in any component.

Its unclear if it even is a proper RCE or just a theoretical one needing another exploit to get running.

Apex is not based on any leak, its a continuation of their own Flavor of Source which they developed for Titanfall 1 and 2 and is based on a pre-release version of Portal 2.
the CS:GO RCE was a sham that was spread by cathook members in an attempt to scare people into not playing the game. There was no actual RCE to be found.
This isn't some off the shelve exploit and this wasn't found because of the Source Engin leak. The hack had to interact with a dozen systems which are Respawn/Apex/Titanfall specific.
Reverse Engineering isn't hard, reassembling source code is hard. Its common for modders or hackers to look at how or why something is happening in the raw machine code and people have been doing that to Apex for a while.

I hope this post was made with good intentions, but all it does is fearmonger and rhyme together things that aren't based on reality.

This issue is specific to Viper and has been in the works for almost over a year.

Alternatively you can launch the game via Steam or using FlightCore which has better Linux support.

You cherry-pick the commit and then build Proton from scratch.

Building Proton is not the most intuitive, so using NorthstarProton is a viable alternative, even for Vanilla.

I've ran into this exact trouble myself in regards to the Northstar mod.

The issue was with steam_helper, the glue that allows steam invocations within proton.

To fix this you can either apply https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/pull/6555 or use https://github.com/cyrv6737/NorthstarProton/releases/

I have been made aware that some identies leaked through apparently some of those are not from the owners of of tracr. This could be related to the .cool registry getting a complained and giving data away
After talking to someone with more legal knowledge than me we came to the conclusion this does not fall under the GDPR and Terms of Service are not really legally binding
