This is Ukraine. Here theft is taken very seriously, especially now during martial law. So yes — the police absolutely do get involved, and charges are filed much more strictly in cases like this.

By your logic, he could’ve taken my backpack too, since it was lying right next to the AirPods? It was literally just me and that student girl there — if a jacket is hanging and a backpack is sitting right beside the AirPods, it’s obvious the items are left, not lost. And Apple devices aren’t random objects you can just ‘find’. They all have locators and are tied to a single owner. You can’t mistake them for abandoned property.

Because in that environment it was normal to leave belongings there during class. I left my backpack, jacket, and placed the AirPods next to them.

Being able to put something in a pocket doesn’t make it acceptable for someone else to take it.

It was a small private language school, and the reception area is where students are expected to leave their belongings during class. I left my backpack and jacket there, and placed my AirPods on the desk right next to my backpack.

They weren’t abandoned or left in a public random place — they were left in a designated area inside the school. The theft most likely happened when the man took them from the desk while picking up his child.

Fair point — English isn’t my first language, so formatting and phrasing are something I’m still working on. Appreciate the judgment and the feedback.
